Gobble Gobble!
So Thanksgiving is almost upon us (in the U.S.), and I was wondering what everyone's plans were? Going to celebrate? Skip it? Having people over or heading out to another family member's? Eating at a restaurant? Watching football?
And I know Thanksgiving is a time where we can/should all reflect on what we're thankful for this past year (and I have many things to be thankful for), but what I REALLY wanna know is:
What are you all going to eat?!?!

We haven't discussed it yet, but my sister and I will probably go to a restaurant and have a traditional turkey meal, with stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams and whatever else. When my grandparents were live, we always went to their house. After they were gone, Mom always cooked at home. Was always a nice family get-together.
Then Football.
Then Football.
I can resist everything except temptation.
We're (me, my sister, brother-in-law, 2 nephews, & parents, w/other relatives that may be stopping by) having Thanksgiving dinner @ my house w/the traditional foods. Let's see...the menu usually has these things on it:
*Turkey
*Ham
*Stuffing
*Gravy
*Collard Greens/Turnip Greens
*Potato Salad
*Cranberry Sauce
*Yams
*Sweet Potato Pie
*Coconut Pie
*Carrot Cake
*Yeast Rolls
*Iced Tea
*Lemonade
The meats are normally cooked the day b4...
One tradition that we have b4 we eat is to have each person @ the table state one (1) thing that they have been grateful for during the year, then we say the grace and then the grub is on!!!!
Afterwards, the fellas usually watch football and the ladies usually clean up :) After the ladies finish cleaning up, we start getting out the Christmas tree and all of the decorations. That's pretty much a full day.
Julia, what does your Thanksgiving day usually consist of? I know you contribute to the cooking in some way, shape, form, or fashion .....
and......Yes, there's much to be thankful for .....Kisha

Sounds delicious, Walt. I'm in charge of the yams and pecan pie this year, the rest of the feast will be provided by my aunt. I can't wait!WalterB wrote:We haven't discussed it yet, but my sister and I will probably go to a restaurant and have a traditional turkey meal, with stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams and whatever else. That's awesome! A byofood/pot luck is great when you're working on the holidays. A hot, tasty meal, and hopefully you get paid extra for working that day too :)oddjob wrote:working, but we have a nice set up. byofood by everyone, and if its quiet we will get to eat hot food

Okay, you win! That menu sounds crazy good! I'll be very jealous on Thursday (although my aunt will be serving up a pretty good menu herself). My day ususally consists of making the pies and yams and then going over to my aunt's to meet the rest of my family (and a lot of family friends) to eat, drink, and then eat some more.
Gobble Gobble!
PS: I love the 'preview' option on here. It's like an edit BEFORE the edit!
Hmm...a Cajun Turkey. That sounds interesting. Does that mean it's blackened or just spiced differently?WSJ689 wrote:well i just help out at my mom's but we usually have a Turkey meal plus a full on Vegan setup, thanks to my Vegan sister for this, plus snacks for us football watchers. some years my Brother in Law and I will smoke something. one year a turkey another was a duck. last year i did a Cajun Turkey that went over well. being on the West coast i get to watch Football all day so that's a bonus

LOL! Walt, I had to read that part twice, because that's exactly what I thought he meant the first time I read it! I was thinking, oh, okay, that will totally get their appetite going. What a great idea!
*smacks head*
Doh!
