How funny I did exactly the same thing as you at first. I sent all those links over to the shelter, then she called me. Those kennels and materials are ok for home use which is occasional average use. These dogs are in them 24 hours a day. They jump on them, push on them, pee on them, even chew them with their teeth. They last about a year and completely fall apart which is really dangerous cause if the dogs get out they fight or run onto the highway. There are also wild boars in the area that have killed dogs. The cheaper kennels are not welded properly so the screening detaches from the bars right away. The metal gage is thin and it breaks after a 100 lb dog pushing and jumping on it. All the kennels they have there now are completely falling apart, they are patched up with fencing and wire, lots of holes in them. These are things as a newbie we would never think about, lol... i was so excited, i went on amazon and found them for $279 and though oh this is a cinch.... But no, According to the lady that runs it, we must get these, but in the 10x10 version http://www.priefert.com/ProductDetails/ ... 37/kk65101
They are super strong, double galvanized, heavy gage, powdercoated, they will last for years which makes more sense in the long run so you don't have to keep buying them over and over,

Dave is on the phone with them now, haggling, it's coming to $870 each that's the best price so far based on us ordering 4 of them, and that includes shipping to the shelter. If you look at the earlier pictures i posted from the shelter you can see how rag tag and bandaided the existing kennels are, so it makes sense to start buying the quality kennels instead of continuing to buy the cheap ones that fall apart.

Those that HT posted looked good, but like you say, probably would be best for home use. A dog at a shelter is certainly going to be "wilder" and more aggressive. Those you posted should certainly do the trick. Chain link, while sturdy enough for "normal" use, doesn't stand up to a lot of pushing and shoving and jumping on, etc.

look at the full size pic of this by clicking on it, see how it's all bandaged together? Well they have 40 of these, and they all need to be replaced, but there is no money for that so they just keep fixing them, to keep them safe. These are the cheaper ones.

Damn, sure wish I could get down there. I could fix stuff like that. A pair of pliers and my Lowes credit card could do wonders.

These are the crates we had delivered, this is 5 of them so far. Half way there! Doesn't look like $4850 sitting there does it? lol...
They were delivered just before we went out of town, and I have been back to my sunday shelter but not my friday shelter since we have been back from LA, so I haven't seen them put together yet. This is the first dog waiting in line to get his new roomier home.

"Insert Tab A into slot A. Insert Tab B into Slot B. Invert forward of cage until front is facing to your left. Bend Tab C around Bar #1, facing to your right."

Congratulations, Vicky. Good luck.

What is the easiest/best way to send you a donation towards the kennels, Vicky? I walk my boss' dogs for her a few times a week and I feel sorry enough for them that they have to spend so much time alone. To see the dogs you are kind hearted enough to help look after having to live in small crates is very sad indeed.

The new kennels you have purchased look like they will make the dogs a lot happier :)

I'm still looking around to see if i can set up a donation page on a site, one that won't shut me down because I'm in adult. I'll post it here once I do. I just got swamped with work lately. In the mean time you can always just send it to me, in a way it's better that way cause we lose up to 10% for the fees for the site and the credit cards, but it's fun to have the social networking involved and they always have those thermometer tools that show your progress.... plus a lot of people feel more comfortable donating that way.

I'm happy to just send it straight to you - I think you're good for it lol ;) Is PayPal an option? Although of course they still take a % fee. I guess another option would be to 'purchase' something from your store and get the money to you that way? Or do you have to give a percentage of that to CCBill too?

This is the first of the new kennels! Check it out, that's a hell of a kennel! It will last for years and years! You can really see the size difference because there are 2 crates inside the new kennel. That's what they used to live in. Poor Tyler he doesn't know what to do, he is so used to going in his little crate he still goes in it! But the door is open, so he can go onto the armchair or raised bed. The reason they still keep the 2 crates inside is for mealtimes. If they fed 2 dogs in a kennel there would be bloodshed. They are getting much better organized, volunteers have been in cleaning walls and floors. I won't be able to go this week, i'll have too much to do this friday including my camshow with going away on saturday morning, but we'll be back there the week after.

Yes, very impressed. Soon there won't be room for the people, lol. If he's been sleeping in that crate, I would imagine it has become his security place. Is there a bed/soft mat in it for him? How about if I send you a few bucks to buy him one?

I don't remember, does the kennel have an outdoor space where the dogs can run and play during the day?
