I heard that Despicable Me outdid The Lone Ranger, with Johnny Depp. Altho I grew up with The Lone Ranger, and have several original episodes on tape, Tonto did not wear white face paint and wear a dead bird on his head. For me, they just turned it into a computer generated farce, and I have no intentions of seeing it.

Jay Thomas' Christmas Lone Ranger story on Letterman, however, is hilarious.

Well, Bobbi, dear, this isn't a movie, it's a TV show.. Maybe you'll want to check it out. I like it enough to comment here.

It's a program called Bar Rescue. A bar owner is drowning in his own sludge, so he calls Jon Taffer to figure out what's wrong and fix it.

Now I don't like pushy, belligerent people. This guy is pushy and belligerent, lol. I ran across the program and watched a bit. I ended up watching the whole program and have now watched several more. Jon comes in and talks to the owner. If they agree, they sign a contract and basically give him the reins.

Some of the places have been real dives. One place was literally infested with roaches. It was pretty unbelieveable. His attitude at first pretty much rankles the employees. He is very harsh when he comes in and starts his evaluation. He pisses people off. But you know what? By the end of his 5 day renovation, they are not only on his side, they are happy.

Change is hard. But one of the hardest things to do is to see the problems from the inside. People have been working somewhere for 5 years. This loudmouth a**hole comes in, starts yelling at them about everything they are doing wrong, and telling them he is throwing out everything they have, including the name and the way they do business. But, he is a take charge guy and not afraid to tell it like it is. By the end of the 5 days, the business has a new name, new décor, a new kitchen and bar, a new sound system, and the employees have learned how to do a good job. It's pretty impressive, and I like him.

It's on the SPIKE channel. Here's the Ask article on it (it started in 2011 http://www.ask.com/wiki/Bar_Rescue?o=2801&qsrc=999

And here's the Spike channel page. http://www.ask.com/wiki/Bar_Rescue?o=2801&qsrc=999

Take a look. You might like it.

I saw this classic film by John Sturges on the Military Channel last week. The show is called "Officer and a Movie." Lou Diamond Phillips hosts.

And something I've never heard of. They said that because of the limited number of stuntmen on the set, Steve McQueen actually ended up chasing himself dressed up as one of the German Army motorcylists.

It wasn't because of a limited number of stuntmen, John, Steve wanted to do it. Actually, he wanted to do all of the "Hilts" M/C riding, but the producers simply wouldn't let him. (Possible insurance issues, too, but Steve was a prolific rider in his own right.) So, he (and the producers) brought in his buddy Bud Elkins (well known rider and enthusiast in SoCal,) to do the jump and other hard-riding parts.

There may have been a shortage of riders, but basically, Steve is such an enthusiast himself that, when they wouldn't let him do the heaviest parts, he got into the German soldier uniform and, basically, as you say, chased himself.

Bud Elkins, by the way, is the guy who drove the Mustang during the heaviest parts of the chase scene in Bullitt.

Watched Inglorious Basterds last nite, never been a fan of tarantino's movies, this was good but wanted more action.
Was expecting them to storm Castle Wolfenstein or something bad ass like that. You gamers out there know what i'm talkin about.

So, i just watched GIJOE Retal, fun movie, lots of action & explosions, and some damn ninjas. lol

Homeboy Dwayne was badass in this one as always (except that fairy movie. Still respecting)

That ATV-Tank TheRock was riding in looks fun&fast. I can see Hasbro comming out with some new toys for xmas.

But yunno, i was expecting more from Cobra Commander, bad ass lookin dude for sure but he walks like a woman: with his hips. Kinda gay if you ask me. lol

Snakeyes looks cool with his visor thing, wood look kick ass on a bike helmet.

Up next: The Expendables

I saw Rush today, a new Ron Howard movie about Formula 1 racing. I enjoyed it. Also saw Don Jon. I really liked it. It even had clips of a VNA lady in it.

i saw monuments men tonite.

if you expect high adventure and car chases, you'll be disappointed.

if you go expecting to see a bunch of guys rescue stolen works of art by nazis during WW2, you'll be happy.

There are quite a few really nice statues and paintings to see in the movie.

comparing Monuments Men with Inglorious Basterds... i liked Inglorious Basterds better, a bit more action in that one.

i just saw TMNT , liked it. They beeefed up for sure and mecanized-Shredder too. and changed the origin story from what the tv shows told us.

but it is a michael bay movie, you know the formula: big action, lens flares (just a few, lol), car chases and so close to the action you could almost smell it.

i went to see it in 3D, dude i could almost see up their shells, that's how close Bay likes it. lol

next week

I've been away on holidays interstate this week & managed to see the big screen version of UK TV series Mrs Brown's Boys. It's called "Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie" & in my opinion wasn't as funny as the TV show. The plot was too far-fetched & didn't really keep my attention throughout as there wasn't many funny lines & there was too much slapstick stuff which doesn't fit well with the lewd language that the TV series is well known for. Out of 10, I give it a 5.
