I swear today has been one of those days! I just feel like a black cloud hanging over me, everything I try to do there is some impediment, I have been trying to start shooting all day, and just one interruption after another keeps coming up. All afternoon I kept asking Rokkerr if he left the shower on or water running somewhere in the house, cause I thought I could hear something.... He said he didn't. As I walk by the basement door I'm positive it's not my imagination so I go down to look, and yep there was an explosion under the laundry sink in the basement. There is an inch of water in the laundry room, the spare bedroom and gym. I'm sure the carpets are all ruined. I've been dealing with plumbers, insurance co and restoration company all afternoon. The plumber has come and gone, the water is back on in the house, but the restoration company will only be here at 6 pm. Wouldn't you know it went from sunny and beautiful out, to storming again, we even have hail! WTF! I just want to go back to bed and start today all over again....

that is a majorly sucky day for sure.

But yunno what? you're taking care of it, you've got the plumbers done their job, the restoration company must be on their way at this hour, you'll have your house back in shape in 2 shakes.

oh and it's raining and thundering here, so you're not alone with the nature things.

Well it could be worse, you could've lost your phone, your keys, your dogs could have had a nasty sting from something, coulda lost your balance in the tub and hit your head, idk but you're alive and kicking butt, that's good enough for me !

Well if there is good news from a flood its a clean flood with clean water..we had floods and sewer backups here in Calgary...thats nasty and there is no coming back from a sewer backup..yukk.

Sop up the water, put on the fans and Mother nature will take care of the rest.

The bad thing about sinks and washing machines is that there is always pressure on the lines unless you turn off the taps every time you use it...kind of a pain in the ass...they recommend replacing sink and laundry hoses every 5 years.

I hope that Friday goes better for you Vicky...you have only one to go and thats up :)

How about this?

I, broke even I have been working your ass off 20 hours a day, 6 days a week.
Sometimes, I had to sleep in my car in the nowhere, unable to drive anymore because too tierd.
On Sunday, it wasn't even better because I had to do my office stuff.
Then, on Monday, a stranger was ringing my door bell holding a search document infront of my nose & asking for cash I had to owe some people.
After the bailiff sticked his stickers onto some devices, my car & took the last cash I had, he left.
Two hours later a taxman from the tax office ringed at the door asking for the same shit, again.
I told him to check a naked man's pockets... he was pissed & left me after he saw the bailiff's stickers.
Next day, the next one was the dude from the Electric Power company.
He wanted to take out the electric counter from my house... I didn't let him in. He stated to come back with a bailiff.
The phone was ringing, a customer called for help.
OK, on the road again. While driving to the customer I've called my bank, to ask why they didn't pay my outstanding bills & why my creditcard was blocked.
The dude at the bank told me that they wouldn't support me anymore because they believed my business wasn't successful anymore.
They had already blocked all transfers and closed my bank account.
Then, 15 minutes later, a little truck quickly came on my side of the highway to overtake a big slow truck.
I couldn't break in time and crashed into his back. My car was a wrack, total loss.
I called my sis to pick me up and drive me home.
The next day, the company I was working with as an independent, called me and told me that we lost a big contract, we have been fighting for together.
My piece of that cake was 250,000€/year for 5 years.
Did I forget something? Ah yes, I was renovating my old farmers house at that time.
That's why I had to sleep in the workshop.
I was sleeping on an air mattress on the table of my workshop.
Only a gas heater with a little gas bottle wormed me up in the cold, rainy November of 2007.
The next days I've spent in bed all day long... ignoring all the people knocking at my door or calling me on the phone.
Overruned by an avalanche of catastophes I've felt like living under the bridge.

You don't have problems, Vicky... trust me... it was just the moment when all bad things together came over you in one time that pulled you out from your daily routine. Sometimes that sucks...

Love you :heartbreak: :shandalips: :hatsoff:

Carl :heartflames:

PS: Even though I was down that hard I was always an optimist, thinking: OK, it's like at the dentist.
After 30 minutes everything is over and the pain is gone... :D

I know, I'm just being a crybaby, it could be much worse... we still have no hot water, but at least we have water. Long story, it wasn't hoses Mike it was cpvc pipe, the hot one... oh well the plumber will be back tomorrow... we may end up having to stay in GA longer than we were planning though, cause they said it's going to take about 5 days of them coming back each day, it's the entire bottom floor and if it doesn't dry properly we'll have a major mold problem, cause it's 1/2 underground...

That's not being a crybaby, it's being frazzled. It sounds like you handled the whole situation with as much class and patience as you could, so you deserve to vent a little. At least it wasn't one of those Florida sinkholes - then everything would have been a total loss. And think about how bad it would have been if you were away from home. At least you were there to hear the water running and get everything fixed. Tomorrow will definitely be better!

Best wishes and regards from a newbie,

Mike

i agree with mikesny, this is a tough sitch but it's better that you found out now than when you're back home.

They're right to want to take care of that wet basement right away, 5 days to dry, goodness. Well you don't want a mold/mildew problem down the line.

yunoo, if you have to tear up the flooring, whatever you find under there like naked cement under the carpet or wooden floor, painting the naked cement with bathroom or wet climate paint (as it's anti mould/fungus) would be a great idea.

Dry it good first. dry it dryer than toast and the sahara desert.

painting it would act as a sealer and anti mold. Several ppl i know have humid basements and do that kind of treatment before putting new flooring (carpet, wood floors, tiles, etc), hth.

Good on you for handling a tough sitch quickly, and that's the best anyone can do.

Rokkerr didn't hear the water? Good thing you did or you'd be swimming in it !

Very rare that a cpvc pipe would split like that...almost never happens.

And as for you Carl..thats the saddest story I have ever read in my life..thats one bad week right there :) chin up my man

Yes, Vicky & Mike

It was about 6 years ago. It cause a lot of gray hair to me... :signhammer:
In December 2007 I've read in the local newspapers to look for a new job.
One week before deadline of the job application I saw the job at the university.
Quickly, I've sent my application and got an acknowlegment of receipt.
Then, I had to wait another 2 1/2 month with no info.
That winter wasn't a good one... you know? :please:
In March they invited me for a job interview.
With the last cash & borrowed money from some friends I bought new clothes and went to the meeting.
I fought & did my best to get the job.
After waiting another month again I've got a letter that I got the job.
Aweee... you can't imagine how good I felt when that heavy stone slipped off from my soul. :excited:
The job is a very good & interesting one, but the payment could be better. :trophy
Now I'm fighting the debits. Step by step I'm struggling out of that mud... ugh! :money: :money: :money:
When you are down that hard the worsed & most dangerous thing is to give up.
Think intensive about it and you'll find a way out of the trouble!
And... accept help from your friends if they offer it. :friends:

You see, there are so many ups & downs in life. :bouncy3:
But... Never give up! :D

Yours :drinker: :hatsoff:

Carl :heartflames:

PS: You'll get a thick fur & wisdom if you've experienced such things... a positive aspect of that mess...lol

That's rough for sure Carl.

Just make sure you keep that job as long as you can, idk what branch you're in but get tenure if you can.

OK here are the pics from my basement, the restoration crew has been here for 3 days now, they say they will be done today and then it has to stay sealed for 2 days, then an inspector comes and we get a guarantee of it never getting mold ever again. I have to disclose that we had a mold issue if I ever want to sell. All the contents are out in the driveway, lol...

Then a different crew comes and they put everything back, the drywall, the insulation, the carpeting, etc... they stripped everything down to barebones! I have no idea how long that will take! Longer than the tear out I'm sure.... I was supposed to be back in FL already by now!

Anyone who has been a member of the site for a long time will remember that we used to do camshows from down there!

Holy Moley. Maybe you could set up one of those bare-bones Kink.com-type sets for one last cam show. "Vicky's Industrial Dungeon Presents...DIY Porn!" If you don't get any takers from the porn sites, you might be able to get a late-night booking on the HGTV network. Maybe Vanilla Ice could make a guest appearance.

That is some serious demo. Best wishes for speedy mold-free construction.

No there's no porn here, lol... this house was a rental so nothing here now except the little bit of stuff we brought with us.... I'm out of clothes, I only packed for a week, lol... I can't even go in the basement to wash clothes! It's completely sealed off. How funny is this? Skittles want to know why he can't go down there!

Thank God for walmart, gonna go buy some clean clothes.... there is one laundromat in town, maybe I'll go find it, after I go to the gym... lol..
