Club want a certain player and the player wants to go to that club yet both are trying to negotiate the best possible deal for themselves. Sigh, the whole Pogba story has been bugging me for about two months now. If you so desperately want a player, then go make a move and sign the damn player, cause we all know he's probably gonna end up at Old Trafford for a record fee anyway, lol. One look at the stats makes me shake my head even more as Paul Pogba doesn't score much, doesn't assist much and he's pretty poor defensively. Man United have Ibra up front with Micky, Rooney and Martial in the final third, so is Pogba supposed to replace Schneiderlin as defensive central midfielder?! #lame

I've been spending last night on the new FPL website and I'm really excited about the new campaign. It should be a cracking season! Already getting used to the new lay-out and I think they did a great job with the prices. Tons of decent value-for-money options in midfield and there's an astonishing wealth in attack, which lessens the chance of seeing a template like last year when at some point everyone had Vardy, Lukaku and Ighalo. We start off with a Hull vs Leicester lunchtime fixture and Gameweek 2 sees our first Friday night deadline!

Let's see... what else...
  • Premier League, EFL & FA introduce new player behaviour rules as more and more players/managers cross the line nowadays.
  • Liverpool sign defender Ragnar Klavan for €5m and Klopp is reportedly also interested in Newcastle's Wijnaldum.
  • The Saido Berahino saga continues as Stoke have made a market conform offer for the WBA forward and surely Jeremy Peace will let him go now, right?

I'm glad to hear you have that opinion on the Pogba transfer Gert. You know me, I'm usually very cynical about hyped up players, so to know you too are not overly convinced about the suggested value of Pogba eases my mind! I'm starting to think this transfer is something of a statement as much as anything else. But it just seems wrong to have a box-to-box midfielder as the word record transfer holder!

The latest I heard is that United would up their bid to £92m, but would still need to pay infamous agent Rino Maiola a further £18m to get this transfer over the line. I'm pretty sure that Maiola is enjoying this far too much! It's not just the millions of pounds, but the fact he's getting it for a player he whisked away from Fergie and United for nothing and knowing that Ferguson openly admits his dislike for makes the deal extra sweet.

An imminent third incoming for Spurs is French starlet Georges-Kevin N'Koudou from Marseille for around £10m, with Clinton N'jie - signed only last summer going in the opposite direction on loan with a view to a permanent deal. I have to admit, when I originally saw this as a potential transfer, I wasn't overly excited. But after watching videos and reading reports on him, he seems like a perfect Pochettino signing. Hard working and pacey with a spark of trickery about him, he looks like he could be a superb addition to our attacking options. Also encouraging is the knowledge that N'Koudou was named at number 29 in UEFA's top 30 players for last season (although the fact the list didn't contain Harry Kane, yet included Wigan's Will Griggs at 25 does question the legitimacy of the list lol).

Strikers are the problem position for me in Fantasy Football so far! I can't decide what tactic to go for, be it Aguero and two cheaper options, two strong and strengthen another midfielder or go with 3 good strikers and two cheaper picks in midfield. Decisions, decisions!

I'm pretty happy with my current fantasy picks and I actually have £1m in the bank... :noway!

Liverpool keep splashing cash as they have agreed a deal to sign Georginio Wijnaldum for a €30m fee. I was wary when he moved from PSV to Newcastle, but notching 11 goals for a relegated side is thoroughly impressive and therefore he deserves this transfer despite having four years left on his contract in the North-East. My only question is.... where will he play? Let's say the tactical set-up will be 4-2-3-1 again. Klopp has 3 strikers at his disposal with Origi, Sturridge and Ings. The players available for the attacking slots are Coutinho, Firmino, Mane, Lallana, Milner, Wijnaldum - indeed, Jurgen Klopp has six players for three positions and Liverpool don't even have CL or Europa League to worry about. Could the Dutchman be utilised next to Emre Can in central midfield? But what's gonna happen with Henderson then? Anyway, Liverpool's squad is looking mighty impressive with exception of Pool's defence, which I'm not too thrilled about.

Barcelona have signed Valencia's Andre Gomes for an extraordinary fee in the region of €50m - €55m. I have been a fan of Gomes since he debuted for Benfica in 2012 and I think the European champion is totally worth the amount paid by the Catalan club. He wasn't fully fit during the Euros, so people that don't generally follow Portuguese or Spanish football haven't seen the best of him yet, but trust me when saying Gomes is a really great addition to their team.

What's the latest on Mata or Sigurdsson going to Everton? Could either one of them affect Barkley's pitch time as both players are best used as a 10?

David Moyes looks set to replace Sam Allardyce. Good or bad news for Sunderland?

I'm beginning to think that Klopp has forgotten about the players who are on an extended break after playing in the Euros. It's the only explanation I can think of for them stock piling so many similar attacking midfielders for inflated prices! Having said that, as Gert suggests Wijnaldum could perhaps be deployed deeper in central midfield similar to how Benitez used him a few times for Newcastle. And perhaps Klopp sees Firmino as part of his attacking trio with maybe Ings could see himself the odd man out?

Whatever the plan though, it's still a heck of a lot of players to be dealing with!

Juventus appear to be spending the Pogba money after activating Higuain's release fee of around £78m. That's quite an extravagant fee for a player who is pushing 29, although is quality is unquestionable. It's interesting though that Juventus are willing to spend such a large chunk of the Pogba money on a striker, rather than instantly looking for a direct replacement in midfield.

Yep, Big Sam has finally got his dream job. I'm feeling kind of neutral about it really. As I mentioned previously, it's hard to suggest a better alternative but more than easy to suggest worse. And one positive thought to keep in mind is that international managers see their players for maybe 15-20 days a year (if that?). In which case, how much of an influence can the manager have in doing anything radical, coaching or making big tactical statements? They can however motivate and encourage (along with hopefully having enough about them to put 11 players in 11 correct positions) and we know that Allardyce can excel in this department. He knows how to organise a defence too, which is another key area in which England have struggled in recent years. So whilst the appointment is anything but exciting, I do think there are some positives to look for.

On the subject of alternate England managers, Steve Bruce followed up his disappointment of not being given the England job by promptly resigning as Hull manager. It's kind of not that surprising as we got the feeling Bruce wasn't feeling fully appreciated at Hull immediately after gaining promotion. I don't think his relationship with the owners was particularly strong and maybe he feels resigning before the season has had chance to go pear shaped may leave him with a stronger reputation than if they are bottom of the league and fired in November!

The whole scene at Hull is rather grim right now, which probably further aided Bruce's decision to stand down. The currently have just 13 fit first team players, no kit deal or sponsor and fans up in arms that ticket concessions have been removed. I think it's safe to say don't go picking too many Hull players in your Fantasy Football team ;)

David Moyes has indeed been named as the new Sunderland manager - quick and decisive action by the Sunderland owners... a sensible piece of business for once!

I get the feeling Everton are on the brink of making a few big money signings. We know their owners are now very wealthy and would surely like to make a bit of a statement. Add in Koeman wanting to make his mark, we should see some exciting times for Everton fans. I'm hoping that whoever they bring in, Barkley will still be seen as a key player as I think Koeman could really kickstart his career which would be great news for England.

I'd say Man United's trip to Asia turned out to be a big fiasco. Delayed coming through immigration on their arrival in Shanghai was followed by a 4-1 defeat against Dortmund on Friday. Then, on Saturday, a plane with half their team was diverted to Tianjin due to the storms affecting Beijing. A day later their training session at the Bird's Nest Stadium was moved to the Olympic Sports Centre and Monday saw the derby against Man City cancelled as the pitch was in a very bad condition after heavy rain. But hey, at least it was a good trip from marketing point of view?

Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli to Juventus is now officially a done deal. The Italian champions pay a domestic record fee of €94m and it makes Higuain the third most expensive player in the world behind Bale and Ronaldo. It is obviously way too much money, but the Argentinian striker is actually worth this amount in my opinion. He netted 107 league goals in 190 La Liga matches and continued his scoring streak in Italy where he notched 71 goals in 104 games. Apart from Messi, Ronaldo and Zlatan, I can't think of anyone else with such impressive goal scoring stats over the last 10 years. He's easily gonna score 30+ for Juventus this season. Image

Napoli are aiming to sign Ajax centre forward Milik for an outrageous €35m. The Poland international has been criticised a lot by Dutch media, fans and even his former manager Frank de Boer, so to now see Napoli potentially paying a Dutch domestic record fee for such a poor player is simply criminal and shouldn't be allowed. Just think about this... Spurs pay €20m for last season's Eredivisie topscorer Janssen, whilst Napoli pay 1.5 times as much for someone De Boer benched quite a few times last season. Thirty-five million for Milik is absolutely insane, it's a joke! And soon Pogba will move for 120 friggin MILLION euros to Man United....

Lyon have rejected an offer from Arsenal for Lacazette. Awww, nobody wants to help Arsene Wenger out with his striker problem, lol.

Riyad Mahrez to Arsenal?

Holy cow, Milik for €35m! I saw enough of him stinking up my Euro Fantasy team to know that's an incredible deal... for Ajax! The world's gone mad! I'm kind of a little surprised Napoli haven't tried to re-sign former hero Cavani. There were rumours that Chelsea had made a bid for him last week and I'm sure at Cavani's age, PSG would be open to selling him for a heavily inflated price.

You have to wonder about Arsene Wenger's transfer logic when it comes to the Lacazette bid. For a man who will forever be mocked for his infamous £40m + £1 bid for Luis Suarez, I'm not quite sure his bid of €35m for Lacazette will help his reputation. When you consider Lyon had already turned down one of West Ham's many public bids of €40m earlier in the summer, quite how Wenger thought bidding €5m less would secure his target is a question only he can answer

You almost get the feeling Wenger is playing a bit of a bluffing game with the fans once again. Making bids for players that he knows are very unlikely to succeed, but hoping that the fans will buy the suggestion that they tried and did the best they can, but wouldn't over pay for fear of risking the club's financial security. The problem is, the fans are more than wise to this tactic these days having been subject to it so many times in the past.

Mahrez to Arsenal does worry me a little. Leicester went into the market yesterday by signing Polish youngster Bartosz Kapustka, who looks very talented and a potentially huge bargain at just €5.5m. As a winger, you can't help think they might be looking at a potential Mahrez replacement. Having said that, a reported fee of £41m does seem on the low side when you compare it to other big deals this summer - I'm pretty sure Leicester could and should be demanding much more for the player of the year and key component in winning the title. I would also suggest that Mahrez could do a whole lot better than Arsenal! Even if it means another season at Leicester, I'm pretty sure he could easily get a move to say a Chelsea, City or United and even high profile clubs abroad - PSG in particular would seem an ideal fit for him.

I don't know if you caught any of Leicester v Celtic on Saturday evening, but wow, Mahrez looked in sublime form already and set to take the league by storm again this coming season.

Oh yes, just going back to the Man United v City game that was called off... I know the pitch was pretty dreadful, but would I sound very cynical if I suggested Mourinho pushed for the game to be called off through fear of losing to Pep before the season has already begun? After getting demolished by Dortmund in his last game, I would suggest that another drubbing by Guardiola, even in a pre-season friendly, would fantastically focus on Mourinho and already apply pressure!

Spurs played Juventus yesterday morning in Australia. Spurs have taken a pretty uninspiring squad of players to Australia (no Kane, Alli, Dier, Alderweireld, Walker, Rose, Lloris, Dembelle) and so saw us line up with 3 kids in defence including an attacking winger as left back lol. At 2-0 down after 10 minutes, it looked like a very humiliating game on our hands, but Juve took their foot off the gas and allowed us to keep things respectable. The second half was much more interesting as Lamela came on and stuck out like a sore thumb as by far the best player - he could have a superb season for us this year! We also introduced 16 year old Marcus Edwards who has been gaining rave reviews in the youth setup. It was easy to see why. For a kid of 16, he looks brimming with confidence and already shows hints of a very bright future. We've had rumblings that he's stalling on signing a long term contract with us and I'm sure there are many vultures circling to snap him up, so hopefully Spurs can work things out with him. There is no better coach to develop young talent than Pochettino and as we've seen several times over the past 3-4 seasons at Spurs and Southampton, if a young player has the right attitude, he's more than willing to give them chances.

Also Gert on your point of marketing - this is something I find so very strange about Spurs' trip to Australia. We're travelling almost double the distance of any other Premier League club this pre-season, which surely puts us at a big disadvantage to begin with. But then to rock up with a shadow team, just exactly how does this enhance Tottenham's reputation in Australia? I mean, any neutrals and especially kids watching yesterday aren't going to start pestering their parents for a Dominic Ball shirt are they! If anything, it would have turned all of them into Juve fans all wanting a Dybala shirt! I could understand it if we'd taken even some of the stars, especially Harry Kane, but then we'd have stressed his already exhausted body even further...

But then to add to that, because these players are not taking part in the pre-season friendlies, that then puts them out of the loop with the new signings and match sharpness. It's ridiculous to me and serves absolutely zero purpose. I only see bad points to this trip and can't think of a single good one.

Twelve days until the start of a whole new Premier League season and there are still so many unanswered questions surrounding various clubs. When will Palace and West Ham finally sign a striker? Will Pardew be able to get the most wanted man, Benteke, or will he have to look elsewhere? Are West Ham going to continue their pursuit of Andre Ayew and what would it mean for Swansea to not only lose him, but defender Ashley Williams as well, if there's truth to the rumours about the Swans captain going to Everton. Ronald Koeman could see Stones and Lukaku move to Man City and Chelsea respectively. Also, I imagine Guardiola wants to make Schalke's Leroy Sané an offer too good to refuse. And Paul Pogba to Man United is in fact going to happen, but when?!? It seems all clubs wait till the last day just like they do every year, lol.

Atletico Madrid have signed Sevilla's Kevin Gameiro for a €30m transfer fee with €5m in add-ons. This means Diego Simeone has another potential La Liga topscorer up front and a partnership with Griezmann could make it rain goals in the Vicente Calderon stadium. I have always considered Gameiro an underrated player and remember he had to leave PSG years ago when the Qatari started their big project. The Frenchman has done pretty well in three seasons for Sevilla where he scored 16 league goals in 31 matches last term and netted 9 times in their successful Europa League campaign. Atletico have the eyes firmly set on winning more silverware and Kevin Gameiro could turn out to be a real bargain with the extraordinary fees being paid nowadays.

Pre-season Results
Man United 5-2 Galatasaray
Juventus 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
PSG 4-0 Leicester
Real Madrid 3-2 Chelsea
Liverpool 2-0 Milan

I think we're in for a very busy couple of weeks as teams scramble to get deals completed. With so many deals still up in the air, there could be something of a chain effect taking place as clubs complete deals dependent of the selling team getting their man in and so on.

Lukaku to Cheslea could see Everton move for Benteke or Bony. Berahino to Stoke or Crystal Palace could see West Brom move for West Ham's Sakho, who in turn will look to complete a move for Swansea's Ayew with Chadli at Spurs then becoming a possible target. Got to love the summer transfer window!

Gert mentioned Man City's move for Leroy Sane, which has now gone through at £37m. I haven't seen him too much in live games, but from what I see, he looks well equipped to handle the Premier League. Tall, pacey and athletic should stand him in good stead for his battle to get into a very crowded City attacking lineup. City have also completed the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras for £27m, with a loan deal back to Brazil until January included. He looks a very exciting talent with a great scoring record. The question of course, is will he turn out to be another Robhino or will he handle the Premier League in a similar fashion to Juninho?

I'm currently up to 9 Fantasy Football potential team drafts lol. The more you tinker, the more you realise the numerous options that are available this year. I'll kind of be quite glad when the season kicks off so I'm not allowed to make mass transfers any more and have to settle on a team haha.

Breaking news last night and I think something that took everyone by surprise: Belgium have appointed Roberto Martinez as their new manager :wtf: I'm sure players such as Lukaku and Mirallas were jumping for joy at the news they would be back working with him  I'm really not sure why or how Martinez has got this job! It also seems quite strange to see a top nation that isn't England appoint a foreign manager. We know that former boss Wilmots wasted a golden opportunity, but surely there is someone in Belgian football with the credentials to take the job? Especially when Roberto Martinez isn't exactly overflowing with trophies and awards himself!

Rokkerr, don't leave creating your Fantasy Football team until the last minute this year lol!

There were two options, namely Club Brugge manager Michel Preud'homme and Gent manager Hein VanHaezebrouck - the latter did really well in last season's Champions League. However, both of them are under contract with their clubs and therefore unavailable. Belgium is a country with two official languages and some of its players only speak French, which makes Roberto Martinez an even bigger surprise... unless he speaks French fluently? The Belgian FA (KBVB) were so desperate that they advertised the job online and the former Everton man meets most of the job requirements, but indeed, I doubt this is going to result in a fruitful partnership.

James Milner has retired from international football and I reckon this news must've brought every England fan to tears, lol. Boring Milner was present at two World Cups and two European Championships, but only featured a couple mins in France. I don't know if you've seen the last two Liverpool friendlies? Jurgen Klopp utilised Milner as full-back after Moreno's continuous errors have seemingly led to him being dropped to the bench. I think Milner could do pretty well on the left as he's better defensively and he has the lungs to cover the entire flank in Klopp's gegenpressing style. Defender Jon Flanagan has joined Burnley on a season-long loan. Clearly, just like last season, Liverpool's defence remains their weak spot.

I basically make at least one change in my fantasy team per day. The funny part of all this is that no matter how much we analyze teams, we'll probably pick the wrong players anyway and finish Gameweek 1 with an awful 30 points, lol. I agree with you, though, it's time for the season to get underway! The Community Shield on Sunday between Leicester and Man United should give us some insight on where both teams stand right now. Top six and bottom three predictions coming up next week. :)

Tottenham 6-1 Inter... Kane, Eriksen, Alli, Lamela, Janssen... Image

This result is exactly what Inter's new Asian owners need to finally sack Roberto Mancini and appoint Frank de Boer.

Unless you are the Inter Milan owners, it just goes to show fans shouldn't put too much stock in pre-season results. Liverpool crush Barcelona 4-0 at Wembley Stadium to leave fans dreaming of winning the league, only to follow it up two days later with a 4-0 defeat to Mainz! I have to say though, I always find it intriguing about pre-season games and how results don't matter, it's all about fitness etc. Which is fine, but to me it's curious how players can play a game with that mentality and then be expected a few days later to suddenly be thrust into a game where the result certainly does matter!

Obviously as a manager, you don't want players going full blooded into pre-season games, but surely you want to instil at least a competitive edge into your players.

That aside, I was really impressed with Spurs v Inter - although the subsequent sacking of Mancini perhaps indicated this current Inter side were not the best prepared! Despite that, I thought Janssen was excellent and showed signs of why he could be a key player this season for us. He was excellent in holding the ball up and generally getting involved in the link up play around the area. For me, Lamela has been our standout player in pre-season. He looks to have matured as a player significantly and I'm expecting big things from him. I don't see a target of 10 goals and 10 assists being out of his reach.

I'm pleased for Frank De Boer to get the Inter Milan job. I really wanted to see him in the Premier League, but hopefully he can get Inter back on track and maybe in a few seasons time, we will see him in England too. How do you think he will do at Inter, Gert? It's obviously a much differently run club to Ajax!

I was at a bbq at my sister's on Sunday and combined with the 5th day of the Test Match, only really saw the last 35 minutes or so of the Community Shield. I think it tells us quite a bit about what to possibly expect for the upcoming season. Leicester are still a threat and will be very hard to beat. Vardy, Mahrez and Musa will scare the life out of defences and will be very hard to break down defensively. I wouldn't put it past Vardy to get close to 20 goals again this season if he avoids injuries.

Meanwhile, Man United still look like they need a bit of extra time to gel. Zlatan grabbed the winner, but when you see him getting comfortably outpaced by a 32 year old Wes Morgan, I don't think we are going to see blistering counter attacks on a regular basis! Rooney again stunk up the place and just like with England, his presence in the team is proving counter productive. I don't see how they can continue with both Zlatan and Rooney, especially with Rashford looking so exciting every time he comes on. Obviously Mkhitaryan will come into the side for the season opener, and he will almost certainly create chances. But I do wonder how Jose will deal with the Rooney problem. When you've got a player on £300,000 a week and a lengthy contract, there are very few teams that could even consider making a bid for him. And then convincing Rooney to move to China or somewhere like that, I don't see that happening either.

Predictions to follow...

Right, I've been avoiding this for too long now... predictions! And boy am I not looking forward to doing this!

1, Man City
2, Chelsea
3, Man United
4, Spurs
5, Arsenal
6, Liverpool

18, Watford
19, Burnley
20, Hull

It still feels like a shot in the dark lol! I've gone with City, but not entirely convinced by them at all. I thought they would have made a much bigger statement in the transfer market by now and I think defensively they leave a lot to be desired. But with Aguero, De Bruyne, Sane, Silva and Gundogan after he recovers from his injury will be more than a match for anyone going forward. Plus of course the Pep factor!

Chelsea I think are dark horses this year and whilst they still probably need to strengthen, Kante is a great signing who will fit perfectly into the Italian's defensive minded formation. I think they will be very tough to beat and if they keep players like Costa and Fabregas fit (and happy!) will grab plenty of victories.

United are such a coin toss for me - I really believe they could win the league by 10 points, or the whole thing could come crashing down - it all depends on how the players relate to Mourinho, if Ibra can hack the Premier League and if they can get a settled back 4.

I see no reason why Spurs cannot crack the top 4 again this year. Perhaps the most settled squad in the league of young, hungry players who all want to play for an extremely determined manager. Of course, with so much competition and money, it's not going to be easy, but I look at our players and think pretty much the entire first choice 11 would get into any of the other Premier League teams. So if we get a bit of luck, avoid injuries and keep focussed, we have plenty of reasons to be optimistic!

Could this be the first year that Arsene Wenger finally misses out on Champions League football? I think it could be. His curious stubbornness to add even just one top quality player to the squad is baffling, especially considering all that is going on around him. Of course, one thing that not signing 4-5 new players does give you is a settled squad, but considering this squad could not win the league last year, I fail to see how they can this year either.

Liverpool will undoubtedly be a lot stronger again this year with a full pre-season under Klopp, not to mention signings like Mane. But again we look at a very impressive attack and see it propped up by a very weak looking defence. Liverpool could be the entertainers this year with lots of high scoring games, but I don't see them being strong enough to avoid humbling defeats to teams they should be beating.

In relegation, I think there is only one real certainty in Hull. No manager, no players and no signs of any hope for the unfortunate fans. After that, as we've seen in the past few seasons, the promoted teams are not always the teams to go back down. But I think whilst Burnley will be a team not to underestimate, they will probably find life tough for most of the season.

After that I'm looking at teams who for want of a better term, don't quite have their shit together. I considered Swansea as their transfer plans this season have been curious. Keeping hold of Williams will be key, but either way I see them as much weaker than last season. West Brom could also implode under the new owners. But I'm going with Watford to be the final team relegated. Owners who don't seem to know how good they have it and are looking for far too much in expectations for any manager to be realistic. A lot will rest on Deeney and Ighalo firing on all cylinders again this season but as we saw in the second half of last season, the goals dried up and the results soon followed.

My predictions 2016/2017:
1) Man United. 2) Chelsea. 3) Liverpool. 4) Man City. 5) Arsenal. 6) Tottenham. 18) Burnley. 19) Watford. 20) Hull City.

We will see in May how far I was off or if I turn out to be psychic, lol. Man United have appointed a manager whose teams have always finished first or second and the acquisitions of Bailly, Mkhitaryan, Zlatan and Pogba is the required injection of quality that will make MUFC a team to fear again with the Swedish powerhouse having won club titles and individual accolades in Holland, Italy and France. Despite what people may think, Jose Mourinho is an intelligent man and I feel he can bring Man United back to where they belong. Paul Pogba is as of today world's most expensive player as he re-joins United for €105m plus €5m in "performance-related bonuses and other costs". #Pogback

I have high expectations of both Chelsea and Liverpool as the combination of wealth in attack managed by tactical masterminds and a lack of European commitments could be pivotal in this season's rat race. I initially wanted to predict Pool to win the league, but then you would suspect me of being high on crack, lol... so the Blues at #2 and Reds at #3 for me. Jurgen Klopp hinted at bringing in one or two new defenders and I think Chelsea want to raise their bid for Lukaku one more time.

Consequently, Man City come in at fourth. The out of form Sterling and injury-prone Silva could be rotated with unproven signings Nolito and Sané. Newcomers Gabriel Jesus and Marlos Moreno, both of whom will play on loan elsewhere, make me feel Guardiola is focussing on the long-term as opposed to trying to achieve instant success. His innovative high pressing style is something a lot of players aren't used to and it boggles my mind to see Kolarov, Fernando and Fernandinho were used as centre-backs in pre-season. John Stones' €55m transfer is mainly important for their home grown quota and I think he's not ready (yet) to perform at the level of Man City. Striker Aguero will get 25 goals, but I just can't see Man City doing well and August will be an important month with the CL play-offs in between fixtures against Sunderland and Stoke. Can Guardiola do it on a windy afternoon at the Britannia Stadium?

I think Arsenal will indeed drop out of the top 4 with Wenger refusing to spend money on a world class striker and talk about using Walcott as number 9 again is making him sound like an old senile man. Forget about damn Walcott, buy Lacazette or Carlos Bacca or Mario Gomez. So many options! Lots of problems at the back too, though Arsene has pinned his hopes on Germany's Shkodran Mustafi, who is likely to move to the capital once Valencia have found a replacement. Tottenham, meanwhile, will be fierce competitors, but the way they threw away a second place finish last term has got me wondering about their mentality. If all the other big clubs deliver the expected performances, I fear good old Spurs will be nothing more than the best of the rest.

This beleaguered Hull City team don't stand a chance and I feel for Mike Phelan as I can see his side sitting in the bottom three throughout the entire season. The Pozzo family axed Watford's former manager Sanchez-Flores and Walter Mazzarri doesn't fit the Premier League at all. He has deployed the Hornets in a 3-5-2 formation during pre-season and it looked disastrous. Clearly, they have shot themselves in the foot with Flores' dismissal. I agree with Drew's assessment of Swansea, who have accepted Everton's bid for Williams - "Medical booked and player en route", and a Pulis-less West Brom could struggle to stay up, but I too am picking Burnley to relegate.

Frank de Boer has everything to be a successful manager at Inter, I just hope they will give him time to come up with results as Italians are known for quickly sacking coaches after a poor run. It will be a culture shock for sure, cause De Boer's philosophy is based on playing dominant and attacking football whereas Inter are more comfortable defending collectively and score on the counter-attack in the 90th minute. De Boer signing a 3-year deal has definitely made the Serie A interesting again from Dutch point of view and hopefully I will able to watch a couple of their matches to see how it goes.

I'm considering Chelsea as my dark horses if that's allowed lol. I think they've somewhat gone under the radar so far this summer and have potentially made the best signing of the summer in nabbing Kante from Leicester. Forget Pogba, he's the best midfielder who was freely available this summer and Chelsea are the ones who swooped. He would have been ideal signings for literally any of the top clubs - United, City, Arsenal would have all have been massively improved by him. The biggest question for me with Chelsea is their striking options. Will Diego Costa stay and be the number one striker, or will they make a late swoop for Lukaku and see mild-mannered Diego make a return to Atletico Madrid? I'm not fully convinced by Batshuayi and can see him being a very expensive substitute. But whatever option they do choose, if they keep them fit and supplied with chances, they could easily be a real force. I expect them to be defensively very sound too.

As for if City signing John Stones for a comical £50m and if it changes my mind on the predictions... Yes and no! I still think City will win the league but I see no way at all how Stones improves them and potentially makes them weaker. And when you consider City's defence is already very shaky, I'm intrigued to see what Pep can quickly instil into Stones' game to help him cut out the mistakes. Last season, there wasn't a single other defender who made more mistakes that directly led to goals than John Stones! For a man of his size and build, he is also bullied by attackers far too easily. He's good technically, which I'm sure Pep will enjoy but there are very big question marks over his defensive capabilities.

It says quite a lot that Everton signing Ashley Williams, the common opinion is that Everton have now got a much better defence! Williams is 31 and likely that they will only get another season or two out of him, but when football lives so much in the here and now these days, I know which defender I'd rather have at Spurs right now.

Having said all that, I'm pretty sure we'll all have Stones in our FF teams... £5m for a City defender is too good not to take advantage of haha ;)

If I was picking a genuine dark horse who would challenge at least for the top 4, I'd instantly say Everton. I think Koeman is a tremendous manager, they've made a very clever signing in Williams, with another exciting defensive signing in picking up Kone from Sunderland for £18m. The eye watering £30m imminent capture of Bolasie from Crystal Palace is questionable, but him Barkley and the very exciting Deulofeu should give lots of service to the striker. If that's Lukaku, then great but I fully expect them to sign Bony should he move to Chelsea. Heck, they may even snap him up anyway, which would also be great business.

Worth keeping an eye out for Benteke potentially moving to Crystal Palace from Liverpool for around £30m too (btw, what is it with £30m transfers this summer? £30m - the new £15m by the looks of it!). With all these transfers, it's giving lots of potential Fantasy Football options!

I've got to say, I'm looking forward to this season more than I have in a long time. This could be the most openly contested season in a long time with Utd, City, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and maybe Liverpool all in with a decent chance. I think the combination of the Champions League and defending the title will be too much for Leicester although they do seem to be doing a fairly decent job of keeping their squad together.
As far as my team are concerned, i couldn't be happier with the close season as we have a manager who has a very clear idea of the playing staff and style he wants to succeed. We now have a core nucleus of top quality players in De Gea, Bailly, Shaw, Pogba, Martial, Ibrahimavich and Mkhitaryan (or Micky Targaryen as he's now known) and we look to be in a position to challenge. The pre-season won't have helped us though as the tour to China was a dreadful shambles from start to finish.

Now I just need to sort out my fantasy football teams...

Ooh is there one on here? I've been off the boards for a bit - nothing dodgy lol - I've not been detained at Her Majesty's leisure haha - all work related.

I'll get on to the fantasy league shortly - I wouldn't worry too much though Rokker, I always forget to change my teams and end up playing a team that's dreadfully out of form or injured :fail:
