Watching this from the other side of the Atlantic, I appreciate its none of my business and let's face it we've got enough of our own political problems at the moment. I certainly don't think HC is the best candidate but I genuinely can't understand why Americans take DT as a serious candidate. He comes across as politically naive who never talks policy - he makes gaff after gaff after gaff and now has seemingly endorsed a hit on a Presidential candidate. The fact that Putin would be happy to have him in charge should tell us everything we need to know.

This is a genuine question and I'm here to be educated on this one, but what do Amercians see in Trump that they think he's electable and will actually make a difference?

Politics is a hot potato as we all know and I don't mean to offend or denigrate other's political views. I'm just genuinely nonplussed. :lost:

I'm not going to get into political discussions here, but with all respect to you, Ramilles, Donald Trump never said one word about violence, and especially about putting a "hit" on anyone. And I'm getting pretty sick and tired of the libel and slander that is being heaped on him because of this, along with so many other things he has said. (Again, not griping at you at all, Ramilles.) He said very clearly (to me) that second amendmenters (what a word - meaning those who support the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, supporting the right of private citizens to keep and bear arms,) would fight Hillary Clinton. He was talking about at the polls! By VOTING her out of the way. It was the Democratic Party and the Media who immediately jumped up and threw the word "violence" into the conversation. They immediately began screaming that Donald Trump had ordered a "hit" on Hillary Clinton. It is the Democratic Party that threw violence into the conversation and it was the Democratic Party that started scaring everyone into believing that Donald Trump was inciting to violence.

It is also liberals and the Democratic Party that takes every speech about controlling illegal immigration and removes the word "illegal," calling conservatives "Anti-Immigration." NOTHING can be further from the truth. Conservatives are for controlling American borders against unfettered illegal immigration. The Democratic party is the one that is constantly advocating violence and government control, supporting illicit foreign powers while taking freedoms away from the elderly, our veterans and the American public.

You can certainly list your interpretation of what was said (and you're more than likely correct), but in a first world where Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head in 2011 and Jo Cox was shot and killed a few months ago, candidates should really try to be careful with what they say, because there are all sorts of crazies out there who may interpret things the wrong way and think that they have tacit permission.

Also, saying people misinterpret Trump and then adding that the democrats are "constantly advocating violence" is sort of disingenuous.

Walt, I certainly didn't take your post as griping at me. I said at the start I was genuinely interested in people's views about the current political situation in the States. It seems more charged that at any time I can remember.
Politics is something that people get passionate about and that's great - as a global society we should engage in honest, open and friendly discussions about the issues of the day. Britain's exit from Europe was a perfect case in point. (I voted remain in case anyone's bothered) Loads of my friends and co-workers voted differently and that's fine. That's real democracy in action.

Again this may be my lack of real understanding but it does seem to me that DT doesn't quite have the full support of the party though? Is this fair comment? I'm aware that HC doesn't either by the way.

I had felt like commenting that England just went thru kind of the same thing with the issue of staying in or leaving the European Union. Of course, I never saw any of the news from over there, but I was willing to bet that it was kind of the same - those wanting to stay vs those wanting to leave.

Donald Trump isn't the most popular candidate. But I hear rumor and stories that Ms Clinton isn't overly popular with her party either. I have my firm belief, but it seems to be the same issue with most people - voting for one of two bad choices. I have felt that way for the last 8 years. Didn't like either candidate, but don't like the choice of not voting at all as a lowly third choice. No matter what the choices, you can't keep quiet. In the end you have to make a choice and VOTE.

The only thing that really astounds me is the number of Republicans who are standing up and saying that they will not support the candidate that their party has chosen. By doing so, they are in effect supporting the other side, And this, to me, is blatantly unacceptable. Each one of those bozos needs to be voted out of office as well. I am in the process of collecting all of their email addresses and I intend to write each one and voice my opinion.

Not much else I can do until November. But any of my friends on Facebook has a pretty good idea which way I lean, lol.

So you are saying "tow the party line" no matter what? Go against your own heart and all the voices inside you? Betray your own feelings? I couldn't do it. I understand loyalty and applaud it loudly BUT the one person I have to be true to is myself and my own morals. I am the one who has to live with myself and look myself in the mirror. If I was a republican (I'm not) I would not support Donald Trump. I think he is dangerous, with his fingers on the trigger God only knows what would happen, he is far too reactionary and far too egotistical to make good decisions. He thinks he know more than the Generals about ISIS? How? How is that possible? Was he there? Does he have access to classified information? How in the world can he know more than the Army Generals and FBI and other high ranking officials about any foreign affairs? He knows NOTHING about it at all. And his only advisors are his children who know even less about it than he does!

On the other hand Hillary and Bill are as crooked as they come. Deceitful liars who smile in your face as they are stabbing you in the back while pocketing millions, supposedly feeding the hungry who are just as starving now as they were, some places are actually worse off now than before they were touched by the "Clinton Foundation". It's a sad sad state of affairs..... I have never seen it this bad. They will sell our planet earth to the likes of Monsanto, and we will all die of cancer as long as it lines their pockets.

The only good thing I could say about Trump is that he may have good instincts and even though he is a megalomaniac (a delusional mental disorder that is marked by feelings of personal omnipotence and grandeur) I would trust his intentions more than Hillary's. I think he may care about our country more than she does. (Hillary cares about Hillary first and foremost). What a dilema. Yes it will come down to voting for the lessor of two evils... but I think Hillary is going to win and she may be the worst of the two. But at least the dems are friendlier towards porn. Maybe if the world can survive her for 4 years a better candidate will come along in 2020.

Sorry for the rant!

I think the whole thing is answered in your last paragraph, "I would trust his intentions more than Hillary's. I think he may care about our country more than she does. (Hillary cares about Hillary first and foremost)."

I think he cares about the country. When he gets into office, he can't start building walls. He can't start sending arms and men overseas. He needs to sit down with his advisors (not his children) and work with Congress to accomplish what he feels needs to be done. He will be successful with some ideas, not successful with others. But he cares about the country. Not about his own pocketbook.

Vicky and Walt, well said. I can't vote for either one of these candidates. Hillary nauseates me and Trump needs a filter applied to his mouth.

Now this is a fascinating diatribe. It epitomizes my impression of a "rational" democrat, i.e. a dissociative type (Not schizophrenic which ppl use erroneously to describe two opposite personalities)incapable of deciding between two evils and ascribing the best to the candidate they love the least. As to Trump"knowing more than the generals" about ISIS, let me "splain". Trump is well aware of ISIS's ideology. It is the ideology which is the etiology of their barbarity. Islam has yet to undergo a reformation and is a savage remnant of the dark ages of history. The "generals" you feel are so knowledgeable ascribe Islam's savagery to the consequences of poverty. All they need, as the infamous Harf once said, are "jobs". Do you think a job fare will dissuade ISIS!?
As to Trump's "megalomania",he has beaten the NY real estate market (the most difficult in the world), built a multi-million dollar empire, fathered three outstanding children, married a super model and won the republican candidacy for the presidency of the United States on his first try. I would love to be called meglomaniacal. Maybe we should have more megalomaniacs.
As to porn, I have not heard nor am I aware of any comment made that Mr. Trump would be antithetical to the porn industry. If past performance is any indication of future behavior I would say the contrary would be so, e.g. he was almost a regular on the Stern show - hardly a fundamentalist's show.

You're so well-spoken, how did this slip out? Do you have similar feelings about others, or just Islam?

Mikesline is cracking me up with these "proof" videos...taken so out of context that it isn't even funny. When was the video taken? Is she even in the building? The photo I stumbled upon looks pretty packed to me. I guess it all depends on who's agenda you are pushing huh? :bewaredog:
