Just to add my thoughts to the standard of refereeing in the Premier League - Andre Mariner takes the honour by a country mile for worst ref, and nothing will change my mind on that ;) But my problem is not with the overall standard of referees, but the lack of any consistency in making the big decisions. We've seen so many really late tackles recently that should have been straight red cards, and yet in a lot of cases, they haven't even been booked. A dangerous foul is a dangerous foul no matter who the player, the team or the timing of the incident and should be a red card. There is also a huge lack of action being taken after the events.

When it comes to Leicester, I think they would be crazy to sack Ranieri! I don't think he is the problem, but he players themselves and their attitude after winning the title last year. I don't think they believe they are too good/better than they really are, but I actually think they have treated this season as 'a bit of a laugh' after performing the miracle last season. Morgan and Huth in particular are two who I point the finger at in this regard as they are blatantly not putting in 100% like last year and seem to be too busy enjoying being a rag-tag title winner who everyone likes. The trouble is, it won't be such a laugh when they go from loveable heroes to the complete and utter chumps who won the title and got relegated the following year!

And their big problem is, they still don't seem to realise that they are now the worst team in the league. Hull have improved immeasurably, Sunderland keep ticking away, Swansea look much more solid. There's probably only really Palace who look as bad as Leicester.

One final thought on Leicester is that they have a superb manager in Ranieri. If they were to sack him, would they be able to attract a better manager than him? Maybe. In comparison, could they attract much better players than what they have? Almost certainly. In this case, I think they need to stick with the manager, he needs to start getting tough - heck if it comes to it, dip into the youth team and throw some of them in ahead of a big name like Morgan. They also need to get the fans going again which if needs be would mean bringing back those cringeworthy paper clapper things to get the atmosphere rocking.

What do we think to Klopp and Liverpool right now? Just a blip or has this run of form cost them even a top 4 spot? Have teams found out how to play against them as Hull demonstrated perfectly? Has Klopp's high intensity pressing game worn the key players out already with perhaps a general lack of fitness to the required standard causing them to be a yard or two slower and less clinical?

A quick note on Fantasy Football - keep in mind there is a blank game week fast approaching where a number of teams miss a game including Arsenal and Man City...

Hey The Boy!
Agree about Ranieri - would swap him for Claude any day. If you have insomnia listen to a Claude Puel press conference. Some of it is almost Cantona-esque in clarity!
I just think Huth and Morgan have been found out this season - 30 - 40 yrs out of date as central defenders. Don't get me started on the awful plastic things they use at the King Power - what is the point? All it does is give headaches.
Liverhampton (as we call them on the South Coast) are interesting - I like Klopp, and sometimes they can be good to watch. Definitely have missed Mane, Lallana has gone off the boil and back four not so great. You may have a point about fitness and intensity (also part of Leicester problem this year). In EFL Semi - they never really looked like scoring (either game) and we felt we should have taken 3 or 4 goal lead to Anfield! I don't rate Henderson and their real star has just come back and not looking like his old self - Coutinho.I think they will struggle again this weekend and it will be interesting to see how their fans react to that!

Did Spurs get off the team bus to play today?
Did Wayne Rooney retire? Man Utd looking pretty darn good (surprised)

Leceister vs Swansea kind important Sunday at the bottom...

Peter the plastic things are a hold over from early 2001 when the fans at baseball games in the USA made them popular...
They were VERY popular for about 5 years until people got sick of them....

Hey rocker
You guys have tolerance if you tolerated them things for 5YEARS - give me 5 mins and there is a risk of crowd (OK one fan) violence!
Rooney has finally been found out - no longer any good and getting by on reputation - if you have Ibrahimovic, Ashford and Mikhytarian (especially the latter) in your squad you don't need a petulant, over weight has been!
Man Utd are OK but will finish 5th or 6th.
Swansea v Leicester is BIG game - would love to see Ranieri win it, but I feel the Jacks are on the turn.
Glad my lot stuffed Sunderland yesterday - Sunderland due to go down (flirting with it for several seasons)
Spurs have been more consistent this year - I believe yesterday was only 3rd League loss so far this season - but are cracks showing (like their old inconsistent self). They need to have a good go this season because next year playing at Wembley they will struggle.
Another interesting game is Chelsea at Burnley - if you're looking for a bet for a draw that might be the one. Burnley great at home (3rd best home record in Premier League) and Chelsea may play it safe and be happy with one point.

Told you rocker - 2 out of 2 today!
Leicester were awful - never looked like scoring. I had forgotten the fact that they haven't scored a Premier League goal in 2017. They look to be in deep doo doo!
For the record my prediction is Man City to win a t Bournemouth tomorrow - watch out for Jesus!

I'm posting this early Monday morning and the main question is whether Ranieri will still be in charge by the end of the day as a hapless Leicester succumbed to defeat at the Liberty Stadium. There's gotta be a mention of Alfie Mawson, cause I felt he was the best Swan with several important interceptions and his cracking opener destroyed Leicester's morale. I think the Foxes must have had only one or two shots on target? In my opinon, Vardy and Mahrez should be replaced by Slimani and Gray, although I fully understand why Ranieri won't ever drop the star players who handed him his first major trophy. Up next are a FA Cup tie with Millwall, CL trip to Sevilla and visit from a resurgent Liverpool. It's time for the good old chant... "You're getting sacked in the morning".

Liverpool clearly had their feet on the gas pedal again and it can't be coincidence that it happened with Sadio Mane back in the starting lineup. The Reds put on a superb show against what is normally the tightest defence in the league. However, Tottenham's abysmal display shocked me a bit and I fear for them with Ben Davies having to replace Rose the upcoming weeks. Spurs kinda gifted their opponent the goals through some shambolic defending. The back four were way too high on the pitch, making it very easy for Mane to expose them by running in the space behind. Furthermore, Harry Kane was invisible, Christian Eriksen looked lost and it's a mystery why Vincent Janssen still comes on cause we all know the Dutchman doesn't score from open play. Tottenham need to recuperate quickly with cup competitions looming around the corner, whilst Liverpool have a few weeks off, haha. This result has left the CL spots up for grabs with #2 and #6 seperated by only two points.

You'd think Southampton were low on confidence after losing six of their last seven league games, but the opposite was true. The Saints thrashed bottom-dwellers Sunderland and record signing Gabbiadini's two marvellous finishes put them 2-0 up before a Denayer own goal and a fourth from substitute Long ensured Sunderland came back to reality after last week's rout of Palace. Same story, same questions. Why does Puel keep changing and chopping up front? Are Saints attackers and midfielders not allowed or physically incapable of playing the full 90 minutes? Why take Gabbiadini off? And poor Tadic always gets subbed! As for Sunderland, they look pretty hopeless whenever Defoe doesn't score and I think their time has come to drop into the Championship.

Mourinho was full of praise for Man United's performance against Watford and rightfully so! Sensational stuff with beautiful one-two's in midfield and the link-up play between Ibra and the attacking midfielders is incredible. It's good to have Herrera and Pogba in the double pivot with the latter given permission to move forward and gotta say that I've always been a fan of Mkhi and Mata, both of whom are not just footballers with exceptional quality but they also do a great job representing the club off the pitch. Zlatan could have easily scored a brace or hattrick and United as a whole have to try be more clinical. Their football was so fucking good on Saturday and so enjoyable to watch!

Drew, how serious is Pochettino gonna take the Europa League this year? Will he field his best eleven or should we be wary of rest and rotation?

Right - sitting down Gert-Jan cos here we go.
Saints first (can claim to have some knowledge about them) - for once I was in agreement with Claude for taking Gabbiadini off. Game won and he is only real striker we have - keep him in cotton wool for Wembley. Also for tiring defence would you want someone as fast as Shane Long to defend against?
Main issue with Claude (apart from awful style of possession football) is constant switching of midfield - apart from Romeu who will be Saints player of the season as Virgil out. Never see the same 3 or 4 playing from game to game and at times they look like strangers. My three would be Romeu, Davis and controversy here Holberg!
Sunderland do look poor - if Defoe doesn't score they struggle.
Mawson did look good again yesterday - he'll be off from Swansea in summer.
Leucester - Ranieri did say perhaps he was too loyal to players from last year. Did Mahrez actually play yesterday, Huth & Morgan are (I repeat) found out as throwbacks to 70s football. Gray certainly looked pick of their team yesterday. For the record I would swap Ranieri for Puel - better manager, more articulate and just as nice a guy!. I think he is suffering from losing the best player he had to Chelski!
Man Utd were good yesterday but still not as good as Chelski. I fancy our chances in EFL Cup against them.
For Spurs - next game will be crucial - if they get back to form will be a contender still. Liverpool can be great - as per Saturday, but still too inconsistent.
FA Cup wise - Millwall will either win or Leicester will stuff them (backlash) - if I had to bet I would go for home win.
And best of all Liverhampton (in the words of the song ) will "win f*ck all, win f*ck all!"

PS - what's the point of Europa League. Great trips to Milan and Prague and one team will get Champions League - but otherwise really..............

Crikey what the fuck is up with Leicester... their defending sucks and they can't score... and Big Sam hasn't exactly made a difference at Crystal Palace...
Just about anyone from 14 down is relegation material..

14 Bournemouth 25 -14 26
15 Swansea City 25 -23 24
16 Middlesbrough 25 -8 22
17 Leicester City 25 -19 21
18 Hull City 25 -27 20
19 Crystal Palace 25 -14 19
20 Sunderland 25 -22 19

I don't know much about English Premier Football, but I do know this: Repeating as a Champion is usually pretty difficult to do, everyone is gunning for you...and when you think that someone owes you something you usually lay a big shitburger.

The really good teams take their place in history and the one-offs usually go right back where they belong.

Reflections on last night's Bournemouth v Man City
1/ Bournemouth looked OK - they will be safe. Played some good stuff and a bit unlucky with some decisions ( but "goal" was rightly disallowed).
2/ Man City still not finished article, What is Pep doing? Too inconsistent still - last two games could have been drawn or even lost.
3/ Aguero still has it - great poacher's goal (even if Mings own goal really)
4/ Sterling over-rated - why Sky gave him man of match no idea - watch his "defending" in second half - standing by on edge of own penalty area watching Bournemouth attacking.
5/ De Bruyne is key man - again not so good as he can be last night so little created.

Regarding relegation fodder, at present hot favourites must be Palace, Sunderland and Leicester. Middlesborough still difficult to beat, Hull may have started to rise and if the have less injuries....., Swansea looking so much better last few games.
Champions almost certainly Chelski.
I'll post the results for FA Cup (sorry my predictions - LOL) in a couple of days!

Just seen Spurs lose in Belgium. Now if St Etienne can come away with a result from Old Trafford (unlikely) my night would be complete!

I've always been a big fan of Barcelona's football style and they have been dominating the game for over a decade with Guardiola, Villanova, Martino and Luis Enrique, but every era ends at some point and it's not like Tuesday's defeat comes as a surprise. People seem to have forgotten that Man City did the same in November when Pep beat Barca 3-1 in the group stage. Each team has a weak spot and in Barcelona's case, it's their defence. If you have the guts to press high and put pressure on the back four, they will screw up. Lots of teams are afraid of doing it simply cause they fear the counter-attack starring El Tridente.

The right-back position has been a problem since Dani Alves joined Juventus. Alexei Vidal doesn't have the quality required to play for Barca and academy product Sergi Roberto just isn't good enough either. Iniesta has been injured for large parts of the season, Andre Gomes hasn't scored a single goal yet, while Arda Turan and Paco Alcacer are further examples that Barcelona's recruitment has taken a blow after Begiristain's departure to Man City. Teams in La Liga sit deep and try to keep a clean sheet as long as possible, but the big European teams won't think twice when smelling blood.

PSG have been knocking on the door for several years and Unai Emery has won the Europa League three successive seasons and their squad depth is more impressive than Barca's. The French champions have an outstanding four-man defence partnered with Rabiot and Verratti in front of them as modern holding midfielders. A brilliant Di Maria and Draxler on the flanks with up front Cavani, who's currently the centre-forward with the most goals in any of Europe's top five leagues. It looks like the money invested by Nasser Al-Khelaifi has finally given them a balanced team to challenge the likes of Barca, Real, Juve and Bayern.

Arsenal's humiliating defeat in Munich was perfectly illustrated by the statistic that Bayern enjoyed 74% possession as opposed to 26% for the Gunners. It was a masterclass from Ancelotti's crew with Robben, Alcantara and Lewandowski the stand-out players regarding goals and assists. However, it needs to be said that full-backs Lahm and Alaba were sensational as well. It's such a powerful weapon to have that kind of attack-minded defenders. The catastrophic collapse of Arsenal in recent weeks must surely keep Wenger awake at night. The only one still somewhat performing is Alexis Sanchez, though he is clearly not a good penalty taker, lol. Anyway, this result marks the 7th consecutive year that Arsenal exit the Champions League after the Round Of 16.

Europa League results:
  • Man United 3-0 Saint-Etienne (Ibra hattrick!)
  • Gent 1-0 Spurs
  • Legia Warsaw 0-0 Ajax
  • AZ Alkmaar 1-4 Lyon

Hmm - Barca (like Real Madrid, Man Utd and Bayern) have no excuses for slipping backwards. They have massive financial resources and all the kudos in the world - anyone they want to sign will go!
It is nice to see them getting a bit of comeuppance now and again.

For the record (on different note) here are the FA Cup predictions this weekend
Sat
Burnley v Lincoln --- Burnley by 2 or 3 (unfortunately)
Huddersfield v Man City - City by 2
Millwall v Leicester - draw and Leicester for replay
Wolves v Chelski - Chelski by 3

Sun
Fulham v Spurs - draw (I have to have one controversial one - Spurs to win replay without breaking sweat)
Blackburn v Man Utd - Man Utd by 2 or 3 (sadly).
Mon
Sutton v Arsenal - Gunners by 1 or 2 (and Arsene to have a fit about plastic pitch!)

Hope Vicky gets a better shirt to wear soon rocker!

Best football news of the week!!!!!!!! :rokkerr:
Referee? Mark Crappenberg is becoming an Arab mercenary and quitting the Premier League. Cue great rejoicing on South Coast and much of England.
One down, only another ten or so to go

Wait until next season rocker - I'm gonna be in then!
Mind you yesterday was a debacle - but I'm really pleased - at last some FA Cup Magic!!
Lincoln deserved their win (see how few other teams have won at Turf Moor this season), Millwall would have been the one I would have given as "upset" if I Had to have gone for one. Oxford were also a little unlucky.
Stick by today's predictions though - Spurs (possibly after replay) and Man Utd look certain bets.

You wait till I get to guess at Baseball - Go D'backs!
