I had a buddy go to jail a long time ago for something pretty despicable (we are not buddies anymore)

While he was being tossed over the second floor handrail by his fellow prisoners (they thought his crime was pretty despicable as well) on his way to the floor, he asked God for guidance and forgiveness. I'm hoping to this day that God wasn't listening.

Do you think he should get life in prison or is it possible for someone to be rehabilitated enough to get out?

Our prison system has nothing to do with rehabilitation. It is for punishment not rehab. We have the highest recidivism rate in the world. Not like European prisons which are actually designed to help them re-integrate back into society and become law abiding citizens. Our prison system is all about money and politics and filling quotas. So that piece of shit is only going to mix with other pieces of shit and become shittier.

I think that's true Vicky, and not just for prisons in the USA. Interestingly enough, the term Penitentiary comes from penitence and reflects the idea that it shouldn't be all about punishment, but criminals inside should get the chance to improve. The Victorians over here mad a "science" of it with special diets, work regimes etc.

In the end, the judge handed him an aggregate sentence of life with the possibility of parole after 36 years. With all the other charges, the earleist release time for War Machine will be 71 years.

Christy's victim statement was heart wrenching to say the least, fearing for her safety if he was ever released. I'm glad she doesn't have to worry about that from him. The problem with guys like this is that they have friends on the outside and that's what worries me.

I wish her a safe and happy life
