Has anyone seen this? Are you kidding me? I haven't read the article associated with it, so I don't even know what it's about, but this cover is disturbing to say the least?

They've done annual anniversary issues with covers like this since forever.

The articles in this issue are critical of the conservative agenda, which should surprise absolutely no one.

It is challenging - but I must say that that is probably a good thing. Not having seen the issue - like Walter I am too shy to go out and buy magazines! - I wonder is there is the old favourite dessert/oasis shoot and that's part of it.
But guys, one of the things this "war on terror" is all about is free speech. I won't even moan if you shoot me down in flames on this one!

I tend to agree with Peter and Mike. And like Mike has said, Mr. Flynt is still doing it. You've all got to the remember the June 1978 issue?? Don't you?

And Mr. Flynt's "Pieces of Meat" comment/quote:
hustlercovers_1_.jpg
I believe that is the most controversial cover EVER!!

It's political satire and that's not their argument. At all.

Hustler plays on the fact that images of the American flag have become controversial and by provoking this kind of response, it proves that this is an effective photo. As I see it, this image lampoons the groups which have been pushing the current brand of American nationalism. Hustler is not associating Islam with freedom, nor do they address Islam anywhere in this issue; rather this is a pointed jab at the institutions which are metaphorically wrapping themselves in the American flag, calling themselves patriots while actively undermining and threatening anyone who speaks against them. Flynt is featured in an interview which goes on to critique the free press for failing to rein in or even address misinformation spread during the political campaigns, misinformation parroted by the media, providing free air time to Trump which Flynt is convinced played a role in the election. Later in the interview, after calling Trump a charlatan, Flynt goes on to offer a $1,000,000 reward to anyone who has "Verifiable video footage or audio recordings clearly showing Donald Trump engaging in illegal activity or acting in a sexually demeaning or derogatory manner.", which for those that don't know, has been an ongoing bounty for Hustler going back forever.

Last time I looked at Hustler I was looking at the pictures of the naked women!
But, more seriously, the fact that the magazine can print covers (and articles) like that , and that we can discuss them is the main point! It is worth risking terrorist atrocities to have this freedom.

Its interesting this flag thing - I have been thinking about my feelings if my Nation's flag (Y Ddraig Coch - The Red Dragon) was use for bikinis, panties or socks etc. You could say its disrespectful, but I am not sure it bothers me. Hell I even tried to buy Vicky a thong with it on! However, if it was being burnt or stamped into the ground I think I would lose it and get really angry! I know its just cloth, but it isn't - a Nation is more than that and the flag does represent that. To me The Stars and Stripes signifies the American people and their ideas and attitudes to freedom etc. However, using it ways such as the cover doesn't strike me as offensive - a lot of the VNA girls wore came/military outfits last weekend for Memorial Day and that wasn't offensive or just "cashing in" on the holiday, it was their way of making a tribute!
As I said before , the fact that the Hustler cover could be printed or that Vicky and the ladies could wear their outfits and not get arrested is the key point. That's what makes the flags and countries worth holding in esteem. And with the further terrorist atrocities here in UK, it confirms who are the good guys in all of this!
You may not agree with me, but I'll fight to the death to let you disagree!

To me, that's just Larry Flynt being Larry Flynt; grabbing people by their balls and making them think.

As for the Stars and Stripes; I'd think that having it draped around beautiful women is one of our greatest virtues, not sins.

For example, this pic that Mercedes Carrera posted to her Twitter page (@TheMercedesXXX) lately:

I wouldn't think that would be an improper way of showing patriotism, would it?

The flag itself is what is deserving of respect. The design is just a design. There are lots of ways to combine stars and stripes that are reminiscent of a flag, but aren't a flag. And really, the only reason it is recognizable is because of the specific patterns. Would a simple blue, white and red striped shirt be disrespectful in France? Is any design with a red maple leaf disrespectful in Canada? Is any design with a red dot disrespectful in Japan? I think most of these types of designs honor their flags and don't mean any disrespect.
