Ahh a Classic, But i never seen the movie or readed it.
Well, Peter, that's not too surprising as it deals very closely with American History. The film was created in 1939 and pre- premiered just down the street from me at the Fox Theater. It has been selected for preservation by the National Film Registry. It was released in the same year as The Wizard of Oz, Stagecoach,Good Bye Mr. Chips and a plethora of similar block buster releases of that year. It has endured as has the book. The book uses the terminology of the times. That is to say it would NEVER be published in this age of political correctness and book burning. Whether it will continue to endure is a very real question. I urge you to read the book to learn about our true American history before it is expunged by the left.

My favorite book series of all time is the Parker series, by Richard Stark (a pseudonym of Donald Westlake). You might be familiar with a version of the character from movies like POINT BLANK with Lee Marvin, PAYBACK with Mel Gibson, and PARKER with Jason Statham, but Hollywood still hasn't quite gotten the character right. Parker is a ruthless, amoral professional thief, a Great White shark of a man who you never, ever want to double-cross. So, of course, someone in the books always does! Stark/Westlake wrote 24 Parker novels between 1962 and his death in 2008, and they are some of leanest, grittiest hard-boiled crime stories ever written. I've read them all multiple times.

Now that is an excellent recommendation and has piqued my interest. Thanks. I'm always on the look out for "light" reading.DKPaine13 wrote:My favorite book series of all time is the Parker series, by Richard Stark (a pseudonym of Donald Westlake).
