In 1971 Dave Brubeck recorded a jam session album with many different artists. One song that came out of it was a Classical/Jazz fusion piece based on the J.S. Bach Hymn "O Sacred Head" called "Because all men are brothers" with folk legends Peter, Paul and Mary and it cooks.

You were right about that kicker Walter. Although Aerosmith did have fine use of feedback just before the kicker. Thanx.

This is my absolute favorite Ella Fitzgerald song because it is a duet between Ms. Ella's voice and the piano, each part different, each recognizable as the song and blended magnificently. Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.

So here is the greatest living keyboard player - best keyboard player Yes ever had, and great solo albums!
I'm a big fan and over the next few days will prove why you should be too.
Day 1 - He dropped out of Classical music college to make a living as session artist ( see later Bowie post)
ENJOY

Rick Wakeman part 2
His solo career was/is brilliant and my favourite album is probably "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table".
Great virtuoso keyboards and songs - but the best bit is that he decided to produce it as a show with full orchestra, choir, band and dancers. The really good bit was, he did it on ice!
to the best quality video, but it was the 70s!

Rick Wakeman Part 3 (still real hero worship going on here)
How many of you remember David Bowie's "Space Oddity" single - "Ground control to Major Tom" and all that ??
Well, Rick played piano and stylophone on that - the stylophone was an odd thing - a battery operated "instrument" that you played with a stylus. It was really hard to get any tune out of it, but it had a distinctive sound! It clearly stands out in the song!
Tomorrow we'll look at his acting. Bonus point for anyone knowing which role he played in a film by Ken Russell!

Rick Wakeman part 5
For those of you who were wondering about the acting role - here is the clip. Sorry its in "foreign", but I don't think it spoils Rick's dialogue and you get the sense of the action anyway.
It's from a Ken Russell film called LIsztomania which also notably had Ringo Starr playing the Pope!?!
Enjoy a master actor at work!!
By the way, I have no idea why the only version of this clip I could find seems to be in ?Spanish

For Valentines Day here is a Neapolitan Italian song about a sleeping sailor and the mermaid who loves him. (The band is that great Seattle band "Pink Martini". If they ever come to your town simply go see them) Here is "Ninna nana".
