BTW...what about the option of using wireless routers for your Internet rather than dragging cables??

I used to have an old store-bought router that did the job pretty well...except for the fact that it was hardwired to an old PC in the front room, and when anyone used that PC, it took so much of the bandwidth that everyone else using the wireless option got dragged down speedwise to nearly a crawl. I attempted to upgrade to a more modern router, but it didn't mesh very well with the cable modem Spectrum/Charter issued for us; and since it was a combination Internet/VOIP modem, I couldn't replace it with a store-bought modem or modem/router combo. Finally, I knuckled under and got Spectrum's own wireless router, and it's much more improved for everyone.

Now, I just need to upgrade my laptop with a more modern connection....as soon as that huge bonus comes in next month.

What kind of hypocrite would I be if I complained all day long about people watching my stolen videos on tube sites, and then used a jailbroken firestick myself?
Perfectly understandable, Vicky...and the thought of FBI agents busting into my house with badges and guns drawn and arresting all of us for illegally tapping the cable is another factor disuading me from making the change.

We tried it for a month but then realized direct tv app was a better deal. More channels for less money. You can still only use it on 2 tv's at once but there are only 2 of us in the house anyway so it's perfect! No wires! Cable free! Nothing but internet here now. Land line gone too!

After trying other alternatives because just basic cable with no premium channels was about $140 a month, I went with Sling TV. I only pay $25 a month and you get to pick your channels. You can choose to pay less, but that limits some channels you may want, so I pay the extra $5 for the better package. They also have movies, sort of like Netflix, that you can search for and watch. They have now started Sling DVR for an extra $5 a month. Yes, they have commercials, but that's because it's live tv. Not only can you watch it on multiple devices without extra charges (TV's, laptop, phone, etc), but at the same time. If you want other channels that are not offered with Sling, I would recommend getting a Roku or some other streaming device that offers the channels you may want. Because streaming is the way TV is going now, there may be nominal charges for that network (usually around 4.99 per month). So between my Roku streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu & HBO Now) I pay monthly around $60 for everything.

I love Sling and for now it offers me what I want in watching TV.

The cheapest base package, called "Sling Orange," is $20 per month. Another base package is called "Sling Blue," which costs $25 per month. Each offers slightly different channel lineups. You can also get all of the channels in both packages with "Sling Orange + Blue" for $40 per month.

Its really amazing isn't it? Our tv/internet/land line bundle with all the taxes and fees was $195 per month. Now it's 69.99 for 300mb internet plus $40 for direct tv nice big package of channels including HBO. Is that amazing or what!
I don't miss anything and wish we would hv done it years ago!

Cable is the biggest rip-off, and their time in the sun is coming to an end. Thank God these companies no longer monopolize the markets, and premium channels like HBO have realized they can bring their content directly to the consumer.

I'll never purchase cable again.

Having been on DirectTVNow for a week or two.. I have to say there's no point to having regular cable.

Better picture, less money and basically all the channels you could want (including local tv channels).
They have Fox, NBC and just added CBS... plus CNN, Fox News, CNBC and BBC...

Only downside? Only 2 streams at once so if you have a family of 4, you might be in for an argument...
The interface on the remote isn't the greatest either but that's a minor squabble...

Only 2 streams at once? O!M!G! The humanity!

When I grew up (100 years ago) we only had 3 main channels and maybe a couple of UHF channels, which were like watching TV outdoors in Chicago in the winter in a snow storm.

To change the channel we had a remote like Alexa, except Dad called it "Son." All he had to do was talk to it. The remote usually sat on the living room rug, somewhere near the TV, in case Elvis came on. :lmao:

The usual format was, "Son, change the TV to Channel 6." The remote would move over to the TV, reach up and twist the dial over to Channel 6.

And then the whole family would sit there and watch "The McNeil/Lerher PBS News Hour" until they all died of boredom.

Oh, yes. Mr. Ed. LOL. So many "great" shows back then. Of course, they'd go nowhere today. I liked The Nelsons, because Ricky would always sing a song, lol

Aw, Hell, it ain't Sling TV, but let's throw this moldy Oldie in there, too. Vicky needs a little old time Rock and Roll.

One other bonus if you are a Sirius subscriber (Howard Stern, sports talk and music channels)... you can download and App and play satellite radio through your TV too...
For no extra charge.... I love that feature because I used to only catch those channels driving in my car... :goodpost:

DirectTV Live just added CBS to the channel lineup which means for $40 or so you can have most everything you would see on regular tv (as long as you have internet)

Had Sling Tv and it wasn’t bad but it would get stuck buffering a lot. That’s even with pretty good internet. I have Hulu Live tv right now and it’s much better. You get a little bit of everything channel wise and you get 40 hours of DVR storage. Only catch you can’t watch on multiple TVs at once.

How much is Hulu?
The only thing I didn't like the last time I tried it were the commercial interruptions...
