rokkerr wrote: February 10th, 2018, 9:31 am Just watched a couple of series on my ''off'' time..

Britannia at Peter's suggestion... which really was a poor mans game of thrones... set in Britain with the druids and romans. I wasn't quite sure if the series was at time serious or not because is was kind of campy and lacked much in the way of a budget for good special effects but it was enjoyable enough in a pinch. I have to give it a C+. I'd have given it a B but with all the guts and violence and liberal use of the word ''fuck'', none of the actresses got topless (a shame because Kelly Reilly is in the series)

Also caught Absentia on a plane... on Amazon.. about at woman/wife who is kidnapped and tortured for 6 years. She escapes and comes back to find her husband remarried. Her tormentor is still on the loose so a lot of murder and police chases ensue). It was great for an hour... maybe two... but like all of these new series, after about four episodes it kind of lost it legs (for me anyway). It went from realistic to silly. By episode 10 I was fast forwarding to see the end. I'd say a C-.

Happy binging... :yeahbaby:
Just thinking about Britannia rokker. For once, not sure I agree. The Druids and The Outcast are far weirder than any of the stuff in Game of Thrones. I quite like the normal Romans too - especially the two guys getting stoned (many ways)in the village.
The visions and stuff is pretty bizarre - even more so than the Three Eyed Raven.
I just think its different.

It appears they are going in a different direction with the netflix series now as there isn't any refrences to the defenders events. Even Krysten Ritter said defenders 2 is unlikley.
I thought Jessica Jones season 2 was very good as well. Though it didnt make sense to me that they didnt make any mention of the defenders either. That is one thing that bugs me with shared universe shows. Yes they cant just bring in characters from other shows all the time, but to not even have a line saying why she doesnt call on her powered friends who she doenst have to worry about getting hurt didnt make sense.

I have watched the first half of The End of the Fucking World and it is pretty good so far. It is about 2 high school kids who run off together and hijinks ensue. The thing is the boy is a budding psychopath who has been working his way up to killing people and started seeing her because he thought she might be interesting as his first human kill. The girl is almost as messed up as him and started seeing him because he is the only one who seemed not normal at school and she has a problem with being normal. The thing is the advertising for the show makes it out to be a comedy, but i find it more of a drama with comedic undertones rather than a full blown comedy myself Either way it has been good so far

OK here's one for debate - on Netflix - Black Lightning.
Not sure myself - the hero's powers are good and I like the fact that his daughters discover that they have some. Bad guy (the Albino) is pretty good, as is his sinister female sidekick. Gambi - the guy who helps Black Lightning is pretty good too - liked him as Harry in Dexter.
However, its a little frustrating and a bit too PC for me generally.
I will give it another episode or so - but interested as to what you guys think.

In the US Black Lightning is on the CW not Netflix. It's the 6th DC comics based show the CW network has done. I have been enjoying it (admittedly I enjoy all the comic based stuff.) It seems to me that it is using a super hero show to address social issues in a more realistic setting such as arrow did in its first couple of seasons before it starting incorporating all the super powers and magic stuff. (Until last weeks episode at least). It is definitely trying to reflect whats going on in the country recently.

Over here, one of our mainstream TV channels - Channel 4 - has been showing some great mystery/detective shows from around the world! They are usually subtitled (which some people find irritating), but generally they are gritty, entertaining and have good plots and characters. In addition, it is interesting to see (albeit in a fictional series) how the cops work differently in other places - say Germany, Sweden or Italy. The all seem to have been imported by a production company called "Walter Presents". There are too many to list here, but if you see an subtitled series by Walter Presents, I would recommend a watch!

I know I have mentioned the Santa Clarita Diet (on Netflix) before, but even if you don't want to watch the whole series, then I really would recommend Series 2 Episode 5 to you. Not to spoil the plot, the flesh eating zombie wife decides to eat (in instalments) a Nazi Sympathisers' softball team. To lure one of the members to a storage unit where they can kill him so she can eat him, they pretend to sell WW2 memorabilia (10% off for white people!). However, when he arrives he has brought an "expert" with him to check on the sale - the "expert" is another white power Nazi guy who is in a wheelchair. The discussion about killing him too, and whether it would be more prejudiced to let him live or not is absolutely brilliant!
Watch - you won't regret it.

Just invested a lot of time in the Frankenstein Chronicles on Netflix.. which Vicky I know caught too...
crime drama in old England where bodies turn up sown out of different bodies... :help:

Terrific acting and well made episodes...
Really have to say Sean Bean is an actor...
The script got a bit bizarre but I hope they make a Season 3...

I'd give it a B+ with points deducted for having no titties on display...

Only issue I have with Sean Bean, is he's another actor who plays himself. Whether it be Game of Thrones, Bond or a quite good series that was on TV over here called Legends. He's another professional Yorkshireman!
Check out legends though if you like him. It's a series about a guy who plays deep undercover roles - and sometimes its difficult to know which is the role and which is the true identity!

This is rocker's fault! - see his post on shit pic thread about the roundabout.
If you are a certain age in the UK (and possibly France), you will remember a kid's TV show that was shown after the early evening news on the BBC - The Magic Roundabout.
Who can forget - Dougal the cross, frustrated dog.
Ermentrude - the posy cow.
Zebedee - the balloon on a spring who was always trying to get everyone into bed by saying "Time for bed!"
Dylan - the stoned rabbit (personally my favourite character - of course).

I'm not sure how much it's popularity was due to the kids watching or just the drunk/stoned students who tuned in!
Watch and enjoy!

There are a lot of shows I'm currently reviewing - under the influence of course.
Do you remember Dallas - shall I explain the drinking game we used to play whilst watching it - I do mean the ORIGINAL Dallas from the 80s, of course!

OK Hennar, so here's how you play it - you write all the names of the characters - JR, Bobby, Pam Sue Ellin etc - on bits of paper, and put them in a bag or hat or something. Then each player takes a name out of the hat.
You then watch an episode of Dallas.
Each time the character you have chosen takes a drink - happens a lot in 80s TV - you have to take a drink!
The best/worst character to pick is Sue-Ellin - you get drunk pretty quickly!!!

Watched a fascinating documentary on Netflix about a cult going to Oregon in the early 80s
Shocked I knew nothing about it...

Wild Wild Country... a bit long ... but I'd have to say it's an A- for detail, effort and sheer volume of work...

I don't often watch documentaries, but I recently watched a great one over here on History Channel about a plot to assassinate Hitler by the SOE (British Specialist Operations Executive) during WW2. They worked out how to shoot him at his Bavarian retreat and even picked a sniper to do it. Spoiler alert - in the end they decided not to put the plan into action as it was getting close to the end of the war anyway!

Just thought rokker - we should start the VNA cult - lock ourselves away in a compound in the middle of nowhere with Vicky and the VNA girls - that's what I call a cult!
