Today is World Ostomy Day, it's close to me because I have a colostomy/ostomy. It has help me keep me alive after getting real sick in 2009, October 27 will be 9 years since I had to have emergency surgery for exploded/perforated colon. I have good days and bad days. sometimes it is tough dealing with the misconceptions and misunderstandings in public.

Thanks for the posting Andrew. We are a motley crew here but always have time to read and post our stuff here...most of it good, sometimes bad, other times to just share something that is close to us, or want to just get off of our chest.

I'm glad that we live in a world where doctors have kept you here since 2009, that keeps me on my feet since 1987, and everyone else on this planet lucky enough to be a survivor. I think sometimes people are curious about something that they don't understand, but the more they know, the more normal is becomes.

Keep posting and keep sharing your stories.

Cheers

Both my ex-wife and her mother had to have their colons removed in the early 1990s due to a genetic problem that was also passed on to my daughter. They were both able to avoid having a full ostomy, though, and are both doing well 20-some years later. In fact, because we lived within driving distance of the Cleveland Clinic at the time, and because the Clinic is part owner of the company I work for, my ex's surgery was able to be performed there laparoscopically (and we never saw a bill). I also have a good friend that I don't get to see very often who has an ostomy bag. Wish he and his wife lived closer, they are both a riot.

My mothers husband has the same thing after having about 3 different types of cancer. In the beginning they said they would be able to reverse it, but after a few years they said they couldn't. The main thing is that you don't let it stop you from doing things. Yes it's a little more trouble, but the people who love you will understand and help out. Don't let it get you down. Live your life to the fullest no matter what!

they said if I could get insurance/disability that it could probably be reversed but didn't get on disability till 2011 so couldn't reverse. Having hernias as well, they told if I could of got it done it would be an 8 hour surgery. But Vicky is right just got keep on going which I do every day.

I'm grateful you have a colostomy. It's keeping you alive and healthy. Anyone who says a boo about you, I'll take them in the ring and show them an a Urkle nerd style ass whooping!

Thanks. While I've always been body conscious and voice conscious, this kind of has added to it and that's one reason I won't do cam and I try to keep things hidden in pics. Now the one part is right that does and has gone thru my head is with everything that no one would want to be in a relationship with me and that with all my health problems that I could wreck a persons career. Just thought I would open that up because I kind don't usually share that.
