Geez, Lance, hope it didn't burn your Christmas tree or your tinsel or your balls.

Oh, come on. You knew I was gonna chime in with that, :rotffl:

Just a thought - I think that every house should have at least one fire extinguisher, and preferably 3 or 4. They're cheap and last for years. I've got 3 here that Dad bought, and he's been gone for 20 years. I called the local fire marshal and he said as long as the dial is in the green, they're good. I proved it by having to use one once. If I hadn't had it, this trailer would have been gone long the fire Dept. would have got here.

Even if your Fire Dept. is a couple blocks away, do you realize how much of your house would burn before the FD would get there? Remember, those folks whose house burned down? They used to say, "It only happens to other people. It won't happen here."

Really glad all are safe and well, Lance.

I had a 2020 Christmas eve though not nearly as bad as a fire. Got off work about 6:30 and normally takes about 30 minutes to get home. It was pouring but the roads were clear and it wasnt supposed to snow until about 8 or 9. 10 minutes later the rain instantly turns to snow and the roads are absolutely white. Took it slow and easy and so took about an hour to get to my road and then its one mile up the mountain to my house. Most of the road is not steep except for one 4 foot stretch near the beginning so of course I get almost past that point and then no further. just too mushy and icy and had to back down and leave my car on the shoulder of the road a mile from the house. was about to hike up when folks in an all wheel drive offered me a lift but they couldnt get past it either. The next 3 cars failed also. So started hiking up the road carrying all my stuff. Finally one guy made it up ( had really good tires and traction) and offered me a ride the rest of the way which was really nice of him since it was well past where he lived. Get home, go to change clothes, put my hand on the back of a chair, chair slides face hits chair and get a fat lip. At that point I just had to laugh. Road was a solid sheet of ice christmas day so had to wait until saturday afternoon for it to be drivable to get down to my car. I had been worried that it would have been hit or broken into or something but it was fine. not a scratch and all the snow and ice had melted off it. Unfortunately so much had melted that the ground got so soft that the tires just spun and it got stuck in the mud. Called road side assistance for a tow and after being on hold for 40 minutes a guy driving by had a tow chain and stopped and pulled the car back on the road. So while overall everything sucked it still shows that there are good people out there who stop and help when needed.
Keep smiling. It makes people wonder what you are up to :-)

@greggl Wow what a story! A comedy of errors! Next Christmas you'll be laughing about it!

@lance so what exactly happened?

Haha, I don't think I've ever had a day like that, Gregg. What an evening. That's what I loved about Alaska. People are so helpful. But, really? People are helpful down here, too. Lots of great people out there.

Sounds like your Christmas was a lot rougher than mine. It does sound like you had one of those "everything that can go wrong will go wrong" situations.

Hi Walt,

As I said, no serious damage done. All that happened was candle wax overflowed the candle holder and dripped onto something inflammable in that corner. We were all in the family room and noticed the smoke in the air even before the fire alarm kicked int. Easily put out, and mostly cosmetic damage, (maybe replace some drywall), but I might need a new floor which will cost some moolah.

And in keeping with Greg's theme of everything going wrong, since then the washing machine has gone on the fritz. Given that its close to 15 years old, probably due for replacement rather than repair.

And as for that crack about balls:

Jim was showing off his pet budgie, Chet, to his buddy Dave. "Watch what happens when I hold a lit candle under its left leg". The budgie started singing "I'm dreaming of a white christmas". Jim then moved the candle to the right leg and the budgie switched to "Frostie the snowman".

"What happens if you hold the candle between both legs" asked Dave. "Don't know", replied Jim; I've never tried that. Let's do it and see." So he moved the candle between the budgie's legs and it started "Chet's nuts roasting on an open fire"....

Hello all,

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas. I just wished Francesca Le a happy birthday yesterday at the other place. Same to Nikki Benz on December 12th (Both were belated by a day.) I also wished Vicky a happy b-day in June at the other place too. (Talked about Walt too) And I hope that everyone has a productive and good New Year in 2021 despite the Pandemic / Covid-19 disease that is occurring. Stay safe and wear a surgical mask. My prayers go out to all of you.

God Bless,

John

P.S. - I've had a few issues with my MC credit card the last few days. Not sure if is with my bank or with CCBill. Anyway, I just re-enrolled through Epoch with my Visa.
