As a kid, I used to read every Marvel comic I could get my hands on. I think the first Spiderman is the only Marvel movie I've watched though.

A google search of "top 100 action movies" does return quite a few of Marvel movies.
There's a lot to dig through, but for the most part I'd say they're all worthy of a viewing. Deadpool, Thor Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy really stand out.
Not the sort of thing my gf would ever want to watch. I did take her to see Ford vs Ferrari, and she enjoyed that, much to her own surprise.

You didn't say what your favourite action movie would be?

I have a brother who is nine years older than I am. I remember being maybe 12 or 13 years years old and he let me read through his entire collection of Marvel comics in the mid-70s. I was hooked.

I have seen about half of the MCU movies in theaters. About a week and a half ago, I finally decided that my money wasn't even a drop in Disney's bucket and signed up for the Disney+ streaming service. I have been watching about one movie per day of the ones I haven't seen. Then, as I am a big fan of YouTube reaction videos, I would go and watch others react to the movie to see how their experience differed from mine. Having a basis in the heyday of Marvel over 40 years ago, I catch many more of the shout-outs and cameos than they do (and recognize most of the costume variations), but the enjoyment is universal.

If you do decide to watch the Marvel movies, I suggest watching them in release order. The movies all have either fun bits or even teasers for the next movies during or after the credits (or both). one or two movies even had three of these bits. Oh, since they sold the rights to other studios, most of the Spider-Man and all of the X-Men movies aren't produced by Marvel Studios. Their run starts with Iron Man (2008).

If she liked Ford vs Ferrari, she might also like Rush (2013). It is a re-telling of the 1976 Formula One season. It takes a few liberties, but is a more or less faithful re-telling of the James Hunt versus Niki Lauda championship battle, which includes (IMO) the most amazing comeback in sports history.

Rush is really good - I think we all felt over here in the UK that there was a fix on to stop Hunt the Shunt from winning.
Here was certainly a sin worth sinning and I applied myself with characteristic vigour to its practice

It's not on Netflix or Amazon, but the BBC have just started an interesting crime/detective series on Sunday evenings - called "Bloodlines" and set in contemporary Belfast with James Nesbitt as a cop who is investigating (initially) the abduction of an ex-IRA man. He links it to three disappearances (murders) that occurred in 1998 just around the time of The Good Friday Agreement - one of which was his wife.
The setting in the middle of the maze that is Northern Ireland Sectarianism (even now) and the storyline of the crimes works well.
The lead actors are also really good - if you can get it I would highly recommend it to you!

Thanks for the reminder. I always meant to watch rush, but never got around to it. I'll find where I can stream it. So far the only streaming service I have is Roku.

Recent standouts for me have been stuff like Mad Max Fury Road, Mission Impossibles and the John Wick's. Great practical effects and choreographed action sequences that show how much an actor trained for the roles/stunts.

Edge of Tomorrow was pretty cool too. As much of an odd duck as Tom Cruise can be on his TV appearances, I gotta say he's got a solid action movie portfolio.

I tend to prefer movies that are not edited to hell and back with shakey cam (Jason Bourne movies) which seems more and more common unfortunately.

One of my favorite stand alone scenes Oldboy, basically an alley fight with one guy vs a mob of 10-20 bad guys, but one continuous wide angle shot that tracks horizontally with the action. Movie was great, kinda fucked up, but this scene is definitely a favorite.

All the families you mentioned show up in the top 100 internet search I did. I've heard good things about the John Wick movies; I should try one some time.

Favorite action movie? So many to choose from. I love all the Marvel Movies. The first 2 X-men movies and Logan are the only good xmen movies in my opinion. I thoiught all the others were pretty bad. Both Deadpool movies are really good. But one that I have to put at the top of my list is The Long Kiss Goodnight with Gina Davis and Samuel L. Jackson. It wasnt a big hit but I have to say it is one of Sam Jacksons best. He even listed it as one of his top 5 movies he has made.
Keep smiling. It makes people wonder what you are up to :-)

I have never considered Acorn TV - I have Sky, Netflix & Amazon Prime, so I guess I felt I didn't need to shell out on another provider (there are only so many hours in the day to watch TV).
If it's good though, I may have a look at what content it has.

I watch "The long kiss goodnight" every year before Christmas, it kinda became a tradition for me since I watched it for the first time idk 10-15 years ago. Some people watch "Die hard" every year along with the annual discussion whether it's a Christmas movie or not, but that's MY Christmas thing😂
Having too much sex can cause memory loss. I read that on page 69 in a medical journal on the 4th of May in 2008.

I watched The King of Staten Island last night and enjoyed it. Lots of the NYC comedians I follow had cameo roles so it was cool to see them acting.

For a lot of us over here, the great traditional Christmas movie was "The Great Escape".
I think it was the Steve McQueen motorbike scene that clinched it.
Another I still have a soft spot - quite funny and good for kids (of all ages) is "Jingle all the way". The bit with Arnie and the reindeer makes me laugh every time!

Just trying the 30 days trial - started on an old series called "Liverpool 1" about a vice squad in central Liverpool ( main character played by Samantha Janus).
Hooked, but it does confirm all my feelings about the hole that is Merseyside (the Bizzies, the process, the junkies & the scallies!) - I worked there for a couple of years (and hated it).
