Canada was very slow off the mark in securing supplies of vaccines during development, so we are far behind the US in the percentage of population vaccinated.stickyvicky wrote: ↑April 15th, 2021, 8:28 am What is going on in canada? I'm so surprised, I didn't see this coming.

And premier (governor) Doug Ford of Ontario always jumps the gun on reopening businesses the moment new case counts start to decline. Which starts a new cycle of covid case and a new spike. I think he's done it about 3 times now. If he'd held off reopenings for 2 more weeks after the first spike we'd probably be in good shape now.

If I got it right, they have about 160 new cases per 100.000 people per week, that's the exact same number we currently have here.
It all comes down to whether people get vaccinated fast or not.
As far as I know, the problem in Canada is that the super dangerous P1 mutation spread from ski resorts in British Columbia throughout the country.
Similar to Ischgl in Austria at the beginning of last year when tourists from all over the world who were partying there got infected and brought it to their home countries.

Having too much sex can cause memory loss. I read that on page 69 in a medical journal on the 4th of May in 2008.

That's what I was hoping, Lance. My niece saved my bacon by renting my house several years ago. But I can't ask her to move so I can sell, because she has 2 severely handicapped sons.lance_s wrote: ↑April 15th, 2021, 8:23 am There was a case of CV identified in my grandson's kindergarten class - now the school is closed and my daughter's family is in strict quarantine. And they have young baby too.
I'm still waiting to hear about when I get my shot.
On the other hand, CV has done insane things to property values and suddenly my retirement years are looking much better (if the disease lets me get there).
I can resist everything except temptation.
I gave up trying to keep track of the mutations, but I think one hitting Ontario right now is particularly dangerous for transmissibility.LizLemon85 wrote: ↑April 15th, 2021, 10:59 am If I got it right, they have about 160 new cases per 100.000 people per week, that's the exact same number we currently have here.

That's the catch with helping family. But on the other hand, helping family is more important than dollars and cents.WalterB wrote: ↑April 15th, 2021, 11:37 amThat's what I was hoping, Lance. But I do wish I'd been smarter about financial planning many decades ago.
They barely touch on this stuff in high-school and college and that's a problem, I think a lot of people are in that camp. My age bracket (millennials) has been staring down college loans, shitty wages and now record high home prices. It feels like it's been an uphill battle for the last 10-15 years, especially for those trying to start families. I've watched a few friends struggle and it's not fun. Thankfully I never got myself in trouble with debt.
In other news, NH Governor is letting the mask mandate expire today, as case counts still rising in the area, I'll still be wearing mine for the rare occasion that I leave the house.
Getting my first shot this afternoon.
Having a couple of classes in high school would be a very good idea. Might help a lot of people stay out of trouble.George B wrote: ↑April 16th, 2021, 6:26 amThey barely touch on this stuff in high-school and college and that's a problem, I think a lot of people are in that camp. Best wishes with the shot. I hear some people find it leaves them poorly for a day or so.

Yeah, it's been a matter of discussion for a few years. Teach kids a few of the things they'll actually need to know in life. How to manage a bank account, how to deal with difficult social situations, so many things in life that our schools should be teaching.

It is ridiculous how many people come into the store without a mask and when we ask them to wear one they say I got the vaccine so I don't have to wear one and then get all pissy when you tell them yes you do,
Keep smiling. It makes people wonder what you are up to :-)

People in today's world are WAYYYY too self centered. It's all about them and screw everyone else. It's no wonder I stay home a lot.

Here in El Paso, the news station I watch reports the number of new cases and the number of deaths. Well, that number is totally useless to the public trying to track how we are doing.
'17 new cases were reported this morning. But that doesn't mean they died since yesterday. Sometimes it takes weeks to report a death."
So, what good is that? 170,000 have died in the last month/6 months/whatever. It would be nice if we knew what was going on NOW!

I used to track the numbers closely. Now its just got too complicated and I don't have enough meaningful data so I just try and keep a low profile as much as possible.WalterB wrote: ↑April 17th, 2021, 10:59 am Here in El Paso, the news station I watch reports the number of new cases and the number of deaths. The new restrictions in Ontario are quite draconian. Police can stop and question anyone who is out and about. Getting essential supplies and exercise are about the only justifiable reasons.

Wow I am so sorry Lance I hope she will be OK!
That 2nd shot really kicked my ass by the way the 1st one was nothing really just a little bit tired for a couple of days, but the 2nd 1 caused deep muscle ache to the point where I had to take tylenol It was really hard to work I felt like someone took a vacuum cleaner and sucked all the life out of me. I was fine the day of the shot, it really only kicked in about 24 hours later, and got progressively worse.... It just lasts a couple of days though and now I'm fine! Just letting you know what to possibly expect! I got the Psizer.
