I think I've seen something like that before, Erik. Kind of funny, But I fully understand. Problem is, if you'd just drive over the thing at the posted speed limit, you'd barely feel it.

Most speed bumps don't phase me. They've put speed bumps on several streets here for schools in the area. They are wider, rubberized bumps. They are just under the width of a cars tires. So I just center the car and drive over them at the posted speed - 30 MPH. I hardly even feel it. Most people pull up and slow to maybe 5 mph. That, of course, makes your car bounce all over the place, rattling the occupants like BBs in a boxcar, lol. Drives me crazy when people pull up and actually STOP, then creep over the thing at a couple miles per hour. So I do my best to avoid getting behind someone. If the road is clear, I will pass them (at the speed limit.) If there's oncoming traffic, I have even pulled over and stopped until the road is clear ahead of me. I just hate going over those things at 5 MPH, rattling and bouncing around,

Standard speed bumps, I just drive over at the posted speed. That's what they're designed for. Any faster and you could blow a tire or cause other damage. But, at the posted speed? My car has SHOCK ABSORBERS, lol, They are there to absorb road shock. And in my mind? There are potholes out there worse than these speed bumps.

Bottom line? I have no problem going the speed limit, but I hate to slow down when it's not really necessary. Yes, I'm a seed demon, lol. Not reckless or crazy, but I like to go the speed limit (at least, lol.)

I don't have a problem driving the speed limit (or close to it), either. The reason for the "close to it" caveat is that I live in Rhode Island. Driving the speed limit is an invitation for abuse from other drivers if you aren't alone on the road. Many years ago I saw a cartoon by a local cartoonist wherein a man with a car smashed from the back up to the midpoint is asked by his wife what happened. He said "I thought I would see what happened if I drove the speed limit".

Anyhow, there is a neighborhood here where speed bumps were put in. These are made of asphalt instead of the rubber kind, and they are made long enough so that the 5 MPH crowd doesn't suffer that rocking effect you described. You drive up onto the hill, along the flat, and down the other side. Unfortunately, a couple of them were installed incorrectly (possibly on purpose?) so that if you drove the speed limit you still got a really good slam to your shock absorbers. One of the hills was eventually fixed, the other had not been the last time I went over it. Now that I am retired, I do not go that way any more.

If I remember correctly, the unrepaired bump was close to the more-expensive-looking part of Navy Housing. We once had someone on base get hit by a car as he stepped out from behind a temporarily-parked construction crane. The captain of the base put out an all-hands email stating that he "fully expected" (meaning he was pissed) that everyone would drive 5 MPH less that the posted speed limits on the base. That is a completely retarded approach to the problem. I doubt you would get away with "All Speed Limits are 5 MPH less than posted" notices at the entrance gates, and without such notices anyone who did not get that particular memo is not going to know what the captain "fully expects". So, with this sort of punitive attitude, I can see someone having the speed bumps deliberately constructed so that people "learn their lesson" and drive much slower than the posted limit "because that's what they should be doing, anyway".

I thought the picture was funny because of the number of cars needed to put bald spots in the grass. When I was signing up to go to college, they told me that they had built several buildings somewhat recently. When they did, they built the buildings but did not put in any sidewalks. The following year, they put in sidewalks where the ruts were in the grass, thus letting the students figure out the best and most heavily traveled routes between the buildings.

Yes, the deal is to go the speed that other traffic is going.

Someone went out one night and took up one set of the wide rubberized ones here. There are apparently female anchors in the pavement, because they are secured from above with a bolt. I don't remember seeing them lying by the side of the road. But eventually they were replaced. Problem is, they are a good long block from the school zone. It's a totally residential area. It was my thinking that the city had to have the approval of a whole block if they were going to do projects. But I really don't know.

But, yes, we have those places over here. I see a lot along long stretches of freeway. Farmer John doesn't want to go to the exit, then drive two miles back to his ranch access. Closer to cities you'll see exits to apparent large venues. Apparently traffic will back up for a good ways. You will see 2 or 3 sets of ruts over to the service road.

Thanks!

There is a political livestream that I try to attend every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Towards the end of the 2.5-3-ish hour presentation, the memes posted to the chat tend to be more humorous than political. I try to grab a copy of both the political ones that I like and the humorous ones that I like.

One theme towards the end of the show is someone will start posting a lot of bikini models and other close-but-not-explicit pictures, like this one from tonight:

make_america_great_again_great_butt____butt_only.jpg
make_america_great_again_great_butt____butt_only.jpg (32.2 KiB) Viewed 94 times

If it gets to be too much the mods will post a warning like this:

horny_jail_animated.gif
horny_jail_animated.gif (170.39 KiB) Viewed 94 times

Which sometimes elicits a response like this:

fine_take_me_to_horny_jail.jpg
fine_take_me_to_horny_jail.jpg (67.89 KiB) Viewed 94 times

So, for tonights collection:

The problem I have with the last one is the faked sign says they are a removal service. If that is just well-packaged junk for the junkyard, then the "mover" might not be as stupid as he looks. On the other hand, such collection services usually try to make some money selling whatever is usable, right?

Now, wouldn't it be real funny if someone caught Mama Bear up that tree, trying to suck on that?
