Maybe rockband decided to make it black b/c it weas all that people remembered it looking b/w. going for the popular souvenir rather than factual? Make more $$.

John mainly played a Rickenbacker 325. In your picture it is shown under Paul's bass.

For the Let It Be sessions, it was mainly a yellow Gibson Les Paul Junior F shaped hole guitar. John's accoustic guitars were Epiphones. Different models. Except when he was in Toronto, when he played a Gibson model. He also played a Steinway grand piano.

Paul played a Hofner bass guitar. His acoustic guitar was an Epiphone. Different models. He also played a Steinway grand piano, an organ and a harpsichord.

George played a Gretsch "Chet Atkins Country Gentleman" guitar made by Fender. This guitar is not shown. Since George's actual guitar had a red face - your picture shows a poor illustration of it above Paul's bass guitar, with a black face. (At the time, most film and pictures were in b&w thus this is why it is incorrect). George also played a Telecaster made by Fender. He used it for the Let It Be and the Abbey Road sessions and apparently gave it away to Delany Bramlett.

Richard Starkey played a Ludwig drum kit.

Anything else?

You're welcome HT.

No dick wagging Laura and Sue, HT was just interested in the instruments they played.

The story goes that Paul bought the Hofner bass guitar in Hamburg, West Germany in 1960. After he took over playing bass guitar for the headache prone Stuart Sutcliffe. And since Paul is a lefty, he actually had to restring Stuart's bass guitar so that it played "normally" meaning on a downward stroke. Imagine reading the bass notes and first learning to strum "upward" as that's what he had to do to learn to play the bass guitar. Yes, he played it upside down. And he did it - played it like that - for two whole nights of shows at the Indra Musik Club. Later after restringing it when they performed at the Kaiserkeller, the strings were set properly. Two weeks of this went on before he went out and bought the Hofner, his first and "famous" bass guitar. But Paul is a talented musician. Always has been. Now and in the past.

For example, during the Let It Be sessions, he got very upset with George's playing on "Two of Us." They must have rehearsed this song in the studio about 15-20 times. Paul was very impatient during their performing of this song. Why? Because it is about him and John first meeting. And yes, it is my all-time favorite Beatles song....

....Two of us wearing raincoats
Standing so low
In the sun
You and me chasing paper
Getting nowhere
On our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

You and I have memories
Longer than the road that stretches out ahead....

.. Anyway he actually sang the chords, in perfect pitch from out of his head, to George. "G, Cadd9, Bm, Am7, G to D" he says. George played it...

Eventually it lead to this exchange during the filming:

Paul (to George) "I'm not trying to get you. But I really am trying to just say, "Look, lads - the band, you know. Shall we... try it like this, you know?"

George (to Paul) Yeah, okay, well, I don't mind. I'll play, you know, whatever you want me to play. Or I won't play at all if you don't want me to play, you know. Whatever it is that'll please you, I'll do it.

...and still not satisfied with George's playing, eventually, Paul played it himself with an acoustic guitar which is what you hear on the album, accompanied by George.

So give Sir Paul some credit here Laura and Sue. No, I'm not going to get into a pissing contest here about if he has lost it or not. He's still very talented. Enough said.

John_NY: Yes and hence "strawberry fields" in Central park. Sad how few in the world know the real NYC!

I still agree with Sue and Laura that Paul S&*s as a singer and performer after we all saw a recent concert. What a selfish rich prick to screw over a great loving wife!

Laura, Sue and Jeb:

Are you sure about that? My understanding was that Heather started the divorce action. All Paul did was not sign a pre-nuptial agreement. My only criticism of him is how could he not prepare one, knowing his great net worth, and then to say to her, his family, and to everyone else, "that instead he'd love her unconditionally"...

"Yeah, yeah, yeah"

Okay so there were instances where he did some terrible things such as locking her out of the flat, prevented her from moving artwork paintings and such from out of the dwelling and lastly keeping her off the estate so as to not celebrate his 65th birthday. Would you blame him or his immediate family? The divorce proceedings had just started and Heather Mills was not welcome there. Not by Paul, not by his three daughters, Mary, Heather, or Stella. And not by his son, James either, as well as Paul's grandchildren.

.... And it was Sir Paul's solicitor that "did the dirty deeds done dirt cheap" as she was the bad guy in all of this. Heather even threw a cup of water at her. Heather hired a good lawyer as well. Though Heather shouldn't complain, as she got more than she could ever expect. Plus Beatrice's life is well cared for.

Well it's not as bad when in their younger days, when George Ringo and Paul especially had great dislike for John's wife Cynthia ...ooops, ha.. Yoko Ono. Wasn't "Get Back"...to where you once belonged.. a direct reference to their hatred (Paul's especially) for her?

Why do I say Paul?...Listen... he had just broke up with Jane Asher about a year prior (he was sleeping around - Jane, to this day, will not talk about Paul at all), and he started going with Linda for almost nine months.

Though in truth and in doing so ... by losing John to Yoko -- he lost a talent - his collaborator - his partner - his musical soul. And it hurt at the time "Besame Mucho".

The magistrate did Paul justice by ordering him to give her 24.3 million pounds. (50.1 million dollars) by looking at their combined net worth before they entered the marriage - similiar to a prenump. Heather believes that Paul's attorney grossly underestimated his net worth, that's one of the reasons why she threw the cup of water in her face.

I read that Heather was at overjoyed and happy since she got more than what she could ever expect. What was it like approximately 15.1 million dollars in unexpected money?

Separately, Paul also has to pay $70,000 a year to keep Beatrice happy with a nanny, baby clothes and food. He did luck out. No question about it.

Sorry, Trio ladies. My impression was that Heather Mills came into the relationship with little, stayed a short while (4 years?), and tried to get away with millions. A classic Gold Digger. She should have walked away with what she brought to the relationship, nothing more.

A little trivia about the song "Michelle" from the Rubber Soul album:

The lyrics of the song were translated into French by Mrs. Ivan Vaughn, a French teacher who supplied Paul McCartney with the French lyrics.

Another favorite of mine, because of John's playing and lyrics....

The Beatles "Rain"... This is the first time ever that I have ever seen a video for this song. A rarity of sorts.

When was this recorded?

Looks to be during the late summer of 1966. Maybe earlier....

During the Revolver or Rubber Soul sessions?

Benny, what say you?

John,

The Lennon song "Rain" was the B-Side of the 1966 Summer single "Paperback Writer" written by McCartney. This song also appeared on the "Hey Jude" compilation album in 1970.

I was a teenager in the 70's so I pretty much grew up on Zepplin, Sabbath and alot of the headbanging stuff. I still am a headbanger and always will be but as I have gotten older you really learn to appreciate the bands from the sixties especially The Beatles and how they really had some great fuckin songs.

This is a Beatles song you don't here much of but I think it has to be by favorite Beatles tune.

That's a great song PD. It's off the White Album and was made during the Beatles Mahareshi Mahesh Yogi days. There's a great story behind that one too. Right John?

Yes Benny. "Dear Prudence" is a song John Lennon wrote about Mia Farrow's sister Prudence. Prudence along with Mike Love and Al Jardine of the Beach Boys were with the Beatles when they were learning about transcendental meditation in India from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi . Prudence, who was a devout follower of the Maharishi's teachings of meditation, apparently stayed in her room for the majority of the time that the Beatles were there. John became worried that she was depressed and so he wrote the lyrics asking her to come out of her room and "come out to play." The Beatles later left the Mahareshi Mahesh Yogi, of course, and flew back to London. Prudence, Mike Love and the others stayed on and and became teachers of transcendental meditation.

This song in my opinion, as well as a few of my musician friends opinions, features Paul's best bass guitar playing ever in a Beatles song. That opinion was also expressed from my late friend Patrick who was my bass player.
