COLMAN, S.D. — A 150-pound mountain lion was no match for a squirrel-chasing terrier on a farm in eastern South Dakota.

Jack the Jack Russell terrier weighs 17 pounds, yet he managed to trap the cougar up a tree on Tuesday.

Jack’s owner, Chad Strenge, told The Argus Leader that the dog “trees cats all the time,” and the plucky terrier probably “figured it was just a cat.”

Professor Jonathan Jenks, who tracks cougar migration patterns, says hunters usually need two or three hounds to chase a lion up a tree. He says the cat probably wasn’t hungry enough to attack Jack.

This definitely sounds like something a Jack Russel would do. They are fearless! They all have the heart of a much bigger dog in them, are extremly brave, and loyal. I'm sure Vicky would agree with that.

You won't believe this maniac, did I tell you this yet? She jumped in the Gulf of Mexico last week. She saw a big brown fish, and wanted to catch it. No idea what kind, but over a foot long, swimming along the bottom.... the water is shallow maybe 5 feet? The problem is, there is no way for her to get out, it's just a vertical concrete wall for miles, once in, she would wear herself out and drown if I wasn't there to pull her out. Unless she floated down to the nearest beach, but how could she even know which way to go? She was on a leash when she did it thank God because the day before she wasn't. I pulled her out and scolded her but I think she would do it again given the chance. She has no fear of anything, or maybe it's just that she's retarded? She still would attack a snake, and she almost died from that.

That's just how they were bred Vicky. They are in fact a hunting dog, bred to crawl into a tunnel and kill something twice their size. That's probably where the craziness comes from too.

Someone wanted to give me a kitten a while ago, all I could think of what the death and destruction would be like.... she just can't help being what she is. 90% of the time she is really well behaved, comes when called, sits, stays, etc.. but when instinct takes over, when she gets the scent of a critter in her nostrils, no matter how much she loves me and wants to be a good dog, she loses control. She is what she is... a hunter, born and bred specifically for hunting small rodents down narrow tunnels...

I just called the kennel to check on them both and they said:
Stinkie is very quiet and just sits and observes all the goings on.... Loki on the other hand is high maintenance... she is high energy and requires the babysitters attention at all times! That's my girl! lol....

This kennel is great. They only go in cages to sleep and eat, otherwise they are in playgroups. There are 4 play areas with a babysitter for each area, 2 inside and 2 outside, they rotate them through the different areas all day. I have a feeling loki will come home tired and maybe a few pounds less (no begging at the table). They do doggie daycare also, so there are always different dogs to play with. Expensive, but worth it i think, so my mind can be on work and not worrying about them.

Did you guys see Fran has a new dog? I didn't quite understand what kind of dog it is, but it's a cutie! Poor thing has been in a rescue for over a year! Lucky for Rocky that Fran found him! It's 3 years old! Woo hoo Loki will have a VNA boyfriend!
