My Saturday - Beach Cleanup Day

So yesterday Rokkerr and I volunteered to help clean up a little island nearby. We got registered, and rolled out of bed at 7 am for this endeavor, and it wasn't exactly closeby. We got to the launch point and they laughed at us in shorts and flip flops, and said "good luck" as they handed us our garbage bags to fill. A boat took us to the island. (next time I'm bringing Loki, it would have been a great day out for her, and no reason why she couldn't have come). There were about 50 or 60 people, most very well off, one student, and a few hippie throwbacks from the 60's with feathers in their hair....

Now here's the thing. The island wasn't dirty! We hardly found any litter. I did pick up one beer bottle and some pieces of string. Rokkerr picked up slightly more than me. For hours we scoured the beach, the water, and the brush and hardly found any trash to pick up, so we went back to the beach where we found everyone was sitting around shooting the shit. All ready for lunch they asked us? We took the boat back to the launch and the restaurant where they were setting the tables with white linen, real silver and wine glasses, etc...

I kept asking everyone why they chose this spot for the cleanup when there are other places that could have used our help so much more. There are some places the tourists really trash, so why here? Finally one person told us a story about a developer who finally got the go-ahead to build more condos somewhere, but he had to do some community service things as part of the deal. What a pile of crap. A bunch of rich people with nothing to do, that want to make themselves feel better, basically it's just a bunch of socializing and then lunch and boozing I'm sure.

We decided not to wait for lunch and just leave. My legs were completely scratched up from the insane mangroves, and I walked through and anthill after Rokkerr disturbed it first and I felt the fury of some small black ants that stung me all in between my toes. It was really painful, and I couldn't get them all off till I finally ran back to the beach and jumped back into the water. What a waste of time. So we left and went to the most awesome pancake house for brunch and then to an estate sale, the 5-acre home of the personal cook to the Queen of England at some point... I picked up a bookshelf, a frying pan, and a few more things for the studio. Then home and jumped in the pool and hot tub and finally went for a run once it cooled off. That was my saturday!

Tonight after our camshow we are going to see THOR! It's gotten mixed reviews.... It's playing in regular and 3D, not sure which will be better? Maybe because I'm blind in one eye, I lose the effect of the 3D....

my saturday was spent running errands, getting flowers yellow crysanthamums and purple ones too and a coffee cup with mooshy stuff on it for her. then diner and talking and spending time.

Vicky and Rokkerr that sucks it wasn't what they said it was. Saturday I was in Beaverlodge for a few hours looking at some places, never found any that we both liked. Drove back Saturday, then Gunther and I went out that night.

Yesterday I helped with the annual 4H club highway clean up. They give you 5 miles to clean, there was 10 of us and we filled about 200 bags and picked up so much crap. There was a sofa that had fell out of a truck that was left there, and a few feet away there was a thong! I was laughing so hard thinking, I guess any place is a good place to make out! Only bad thing was when we started it was 5C and pouring rain

We had a day full of sports....Baseball at 9am. softball ad 12:30pm, baseball again at 4:30 and to finish it off flag football at 8pm...PHEW!!!

LOL! Vicky next time go help Julie with the 4H clean up.

My oldest son came out with the grand kids we had a great time. I BBQ a rabbit that I got last fall for supper, was great. Sunday I didn't do much more than I had to.

Half of Sarasota is a bunch of rich people with nothing to do but shoot the shit and have wine and cheese parties at St. Armands.

While the other half cuts their grass and cleans their pools.
