Welcome back, gorgeous. Glad to hear it all went so well. Sounds like you'll really have "The Life Of Reilly" for a few days. Glad to hear all is going so well.

Now, pardon my ignorance of surgical procedures, but....

Why did they have to stick a tube down her throat for a surgery to your knee???? To shove down the Loritab???

Otherwise, here's hoping for a speedy and full recovery, Double V....and Rokk-man, please try not to spoil her too rotten.

Most likely Vicky went under with "general" anesthesia. Knocking out her entire body as opposed to a "local" anesthetic, like lidocaine, which just numbs the region being worked on. Since knee surgery is pretty dramatic, the anesthetic given would be a "general" one. They have to monitor all her vital organs, her lungs and her breathing, and her heart rate especially. Anesthesia may also tend to slow down organ function, such as blood flow, etc. The tube is administered because of this. The anesthesiologist does that so the patient doesn't do a "John Bonham" whereby the unconscious patient vomits up or has an adverse reaction to the anesthesia that has been injected into the veins.

So we went to the doctor today to have the dressing changed.. Rokkerr snapped this picture with his cell phone... The doctor was very pleased, he said he can tell that I’ve been following his instructions and staying off of it because it’s not swollen, and the bruising is great (ie very little of it), no infection either…. Starting today I can put 50% of my weight on it still using the crutches of course.. I now have exercises to do morning and night… I’ll probably be up and around ahead of schedule…
:D
The stitches will come out next tuesday morning... and I get to take showers starting tomorrow, taking a bath is really hard, lol.. it would have been comical yesterday if it wasn't so painful... I had to sit in the tub sideways, with my leg hanging out, trying to get clean and wash my hair, as soon as I finished, I took a pain pill and went back to bed! The crutches are killing my underarms, but other than that, it's really been great, we've been BBQ'ing most every night, I have a lot of friends and neighbors that come over and check on us. Rokkerr had to go to work yesterday so my girlfriend cooked dinner for us here in the cabin. I have no complaints at all... gotta go, lol..... Star Trek is on! Damn that 7 of 9, I'd do her anyday!

Ewwww....that's kind of a knarly looking scar.

But...if it helps you recover quicker, so much the better.

As for Jeri "''Seven of Nine" Ryan: too bad she's been estranged from sex parties by her ex-hubby politician (he attempted to get her to participate in several sex clubs; which was one of the main reasons for her subsequent divorce)....she and you would have made a perfect couple.

Hey Lady, your knee looks great. I can tell you are doing what you are supposed to do. As for the crutches hurting your under arms, they are either to long for you or you are not putting your weight on your hands and arms.

My knee looks great Donor? lol... I wasn't sure if I should post that pic or not, thought maybe all the members would cancel their subscriptions and go running... lol...

But I figure the board is different than the website, the people on here are my friends, not just members, because they take the time to come here to the board, so I should be able to safely share my life here.

I think it will heal well, if I keep it out of the sun the scar should be minimal over time, at least the horizontal one will be. I guess one day I'll learn photoshop, lol.. now I'll have a better reason, anyway, Rokkerr says if they are looking at the back of my knee, we are doing something wrong.

You were right Donor, I'm holding the crutches differently now and doesn't hurt, got a nice bruise under my left arm though.... I'm down to using one crutch now, since I can put some weight on the left foot, I can actually carry a cup of coffee now! Woo hoo, it's the little things in life that you miss, lol....

Sure makes you appreciate your health and all the things we take for granted. We are sooooo lucky. If I ever bitch or whine about anything ever again, someone slap me....

Looks to me by the photo above, that it will heal nicely and won't be noticed unless a person knows to look for it.

Good doctors +/- or good leg = you decide.

Hello Vicky,

Yup, so you did have a enlarged baker's cyst behind the left knee....That picture appears to be a left posterior view...The back view of the joint. Me too.

But yes, ewwwwww, yukkky!!! I'm only kidding there... the wound looks alright and good. Healing very slowly... Are you very sore? You haven't tried to bend the knee? Right, as you'll need to follow the doctor's instructions here. The black and blue bruises will go away in time. So bathing is tough for you, It must be. So you do have to hang your leg over the side of the tub? And you have to use a washcloth. Rubbing ever so gently. Make sure you dry your leg adequately. And please keep it warm.

Donor is right about the crutches. Having them too high will cause your underarms to hurt, as well as pulling your body with your arms, as your arms, elbows and wrists would hurt. You can also try to add some padding, as that may help.

When do you start physical therapy? That first session will be one of the more painful experiences that you'll ever have to go through in your life as the physical therapist will have to break up the adhesions or scar tissue - that has built up in the knee joint since the surgery and I'll pray for you, that this goes well for you!

Besides, having a large cyst too, I had a few other things wrong in my knee, as both my lateral and medial cartiledge were fully eroded to the point where there was just bone there, and my anterior cruciate ligament was torn completely. After I had my ACL reconstruction, my leg was in a cast for a month, kept together with pins and wires. And the same thing occurred much pain during that first physical therapy session. I had to go through 18 months of physical therapy as the muscles, ligaments and tendons had to be built back up.

The doctor hasn't done any "buckle" tests on your knee yet either, since it way too sore. Since he already knows that it's stable now. Those will come, and he'll ask you straight out before he does these procedures, if you experience any sort of pain or tenderness at all. Please do so and let him know.

I'll keep you in my prayers.

Love,

John

John, is there anything you do not know? Wow..... I am focusing on the bathing part at the present   She is doing great and walking already without crutches so I hope her pain level is not going to be that high.... the doc thinks she will be up and around in a matter of days (the stitches come out on Tuesday.

Haha Rokkerr has been the most unbelievable good nurse! I started walking on it yesterday, but I had the worst night, maybe I did too much too soon, we are both going absolutely stir crazy here, these 4 walls are closing in on us... yesterday we borrowed a friends golf cart and drove around a bit, made the dog run behind us, that was fun, but we are going to go home today. It's better here at the cabin because it's so flat, no stairs, and home is 3 levels with 15 stairs between each. But still we need a change, so we'll go home today, and come back for all the memorial day festivities. OMG there are parties thursday night, friday night, sat night and sun night... don't know how much we'll partake, maybe just make an appearance at each, we'll see.... it kills me not to be able to dance! But it will be good for us to get out a bit.

Sounds like you went through hell John, a lot worse than me... I am really lucky, the doc's said the hole in my meniscus actually sealed itself! Guess it was a good thing that I procrastinated, lol... see if you take no action, things take care of themselves, lol......

I don't have to do therapy with them, they gave me exercises to do at home, I started yesterday. Hope you get back to normal soon John!

Thank you Derry, and in case I never said welcome to the board, WELCUM! Nice to see you posting...

I'm finding it depressing to be so stuck, I'm used to doing everything on a whim, get a thought, jump in the car and go! I feel like an animal in a cage... Thank god for Rokkerr. Even with people coming over everyday, it's nice, but I'm still stuck. I wasn't made for that, lol.... It sure gives me a new appreciation for handicapped people....

I knew the worst part of the surgery would be your antsiness, lol. You better take it easy hon, recovery from knee surgery takes time. While you're laid up, you can invent new sex positions that put no stress on the knees, LOL!
