I've never enjoyed shopping at Wal-Mart, the few times I've been there. And based on what I know of their corporate culture, I'm quite happy to give them a miss.

My ex-wife did work at a Wal-Mart back in the days when money was tighter, and even then I didn't enjoy shopping there. Or agree with the operating philosophy she described.

I couldn't agree more how is it that target can pay their people $20 an hour yet Walmart only pays them $10 an hour? Costco pay $25 an hour......

Walmart considers helping their employees to be teaching them how to get food stamps and other government assistance… why should someone who is working 40 + hours per week need food stamps or government assistance? What do you think that does to someone's state of mind and psyche?

It's a horrible store I try not to go there and I feel guilty when I do..

Wasn't trying to offend you, just their corporate Policy of abusing their workers upsets me.

Read up on them if you ever get a chance? Slave labor exists in China because of them. People work 18 hour days and live in the factories where they make the products we buy. They are starving and can't afford toothpaste. They brush their teeth with ashes from the firepit. Not kidding. Sometimes 3 generations all live together in one room at a factory working all hours, it's no life.

People get sliced up and lose fingers on some of the machinery but it's cheaper to throw away the garments that have blood on them, than it is to provide the workers with gloves or other safety equipment.

I do think it has gotten a little better over the past 5/10 years or so because of all the people up in arms about it, but they squash the bad publicity pretty quick.......

Has nothing to do with you Walt, wasn't attacking you or your choice I'm sure you didn't know any of this.

Walt, Just because I don't like to shop at Walmart doesnt mean there is anything wrong with you shopping there. Oddly enough, in the olden days when I sometimes made a trip to the US, I was perfectly happy visiting Target. Different strokes for different folks. I have a friend who regularly shops at WalMart (especially at his winter home in Florida) for exactly the reasons you listed.

Years ago, a sub-division I lived was talking about passing a by-law banning above ground pools. I detest above ground pools but I still thought the bylaw was nuts. If I wanted a pool and couldn't afford inground, then I'd do without rather than settle for above ground. But that's just me. If my next door neighbours wanted an above ground pool and installed one with all the necessary safety measures, then good for them.

I made what I thought what a fairly funny comment about where I shop, and y'all immediately, with what I thought were overly harsh comments, started tearing it apart. "...because I refuse to enter a Wal-Mart unless there is absolutely no other option." Well, I say good for you. And I can't comment on your ex-wife because I don't know her.

And then, Vicky, you jumped in and tore the place where I shop a new asshole. You pretty much said that where I shop is a shithole, while, apparently, all the other discount stores are such wonderful places.

I stand by my comments. If you folks don't like where I shop, that's too stinking bad. I am 78 tears old and cannot drive all over town looking for crap I need. I have to go locally where I can get the items I need without a lot of hassle.

When I go to Walmart, the employees are very friendly. They are happy and helpful. If I ask where something is, they don't stand there and wave their hands. They stop what they're doing and take ,e to the item I want. Target has NEVER done that. The last 4 or 5 times I went to a Target? I couldn't even FIND anyone to help.

The last time I went to Target (as in LAST!) I wandered around the store for 10 or 15 minutes looking for something. Then I started looking for someone to help. I covered that store and there was no clerk ANYwhere. So I went up front to buy the 2 or 3 items I had. There I found what appeared (by their dress) 2 or 3 management types, standing in a group with 3 employees. I walked up to the group and respectfully waited until someone would turn to acknowledge me. Well, I waited two or three minutes. When they were done, they turned, two of them actually looked at me, and kept walking and walked away. Not even a nod of recognition. So I i 'yelled, "Excuse me." One of the management types turned. I pushed my cart to him and said, "Here, you can have this." Then I told him exactly what I just stated. I finished with, "So you keep your crap and I will take my business elsewhere." I then turned and walked out. So much for your much beloved Target.

I know nothing about corporate culture. And corporate culture is none of my business. I have known 4 Wal-Mart employees over the years who have advanced in their positions. If people don't like working there, here's a hint. Go get another job. There are plenty of unemployed out here who would LOVE to have your job. Wal-Mart is the largest corporation in America, and has been since 2014. Target is, oh, let's see, scanning down,,,, scanning, scanning, Oh, here they are - number 38. Costco is at least 14. But, gee, I wonder why that is? People LIKE Wal-Mart because of their affordable prices and great customer service - both severely lacking in the stores you mentioned, Vicky.

Wal-Mart is NOT the only store that buys their crap from China. MOST larger stores buy tons of crap from China. Child labor (I am not condoning it) has been around since LONG before Wal-Mart was even heard of.

I"m just going to shut the hell up for a while.

20 year (by next Feburary) employee at Walmart reporting for comment, y'allz.

Yeah, Sam Walton's company is still quite miserly when it comes to paying us, but it's at least tangently better than it was in the 80's and 90's. Right now, I'm making close to $16.50 per hour as an overnight stocker working a full 40 hour per week schedule.

Although we get our share of flaky customers down here, they're nowhere near the screwballs that get shown on YouTube or Insta clips. Then again, my store is closed during the time I work, so I may miss things.

Of course, Walmart is far from the only retail outlet that profits from cheap, if not slave, labor; they are just the easiest target for such because they are so huge.

BTW, comparing Walmart and Costco is a tad misleading because the Walmart chain includes not only their mainstay Walmart Supercenter stores, but also their older General Merchandise chains that don't have groceries; their Neighborhood Market stores that are *only* grocery chains; and their Sam's Club bulk retail outlets. Costco is only bulk retail only, so it's appropriate to compare Sam's Club with Costco. Of course, my home city doesn't have Sam's Club (closest is in Lafayette) or a Target (though we have been rumored for a long while to be getting one), so it's either us or the locals.

It's a free country. Capitalism at its finest. If you want to support a company who have become billionaires by abusing the poor and weak then you go ahead. I choose to support other stores that have a sense of fair play and decency. That is my right. It's it's also my right to state my opinion. That is called FREE SPEECH!

Don't take it personally Walt! If you want to give them your money and help them continue human rights violations, you go right ahead. If you think you getting good service at one particular store is worth it and makes that ok, then by all means support the evil empire.

Anthony, I'm glad you have a job, and it's too bad where you live you have no other alternatives. You do what you gotta do to survive. If you worked for any other big box store you would make more $$ and possibly have a union to protect you.
