I can't even begin to understand the thinking behind this.

"Gas prices are way up, so let's cut everyone's wages and hours so they can all go out and get second jobs?" Is that what this idiot is saying?

And I bet every station in the city all went up at once, didn't they. But, remember, there's no oil company collusion.

Well, Shell Oil just reported a 9.1 billion dollar profit for the first three months of this year.

I can't imagine why gas prices are so high. :lame:

Gas companies are some of the worst offenders for high prices.

I've mentioned before, and now it's even more important, Gasbuddy.com. On my current trip to Arizona, I found a couple of stations selling for $3.74 in Las Cruces (30 miles out of El Paso and directly on my route.) That's a significant savings over the area average, which was about $4.10. Yes, the station was a little busy (a little?) But, to me, it was worth the wait to save close to $5. And, here's a hint, folks. More important than ever. When you're waiting in line? Gas station, McDonalds, wherever, if you're going to wait more than about 45 seconds, shut your engine off. At a crowded gas station you might wait for 5 minutes or more. All that time you are sitting there idling (getting 0 MPG) you are burning gas. Not overly critical at a Fast food place, but at a crowded gas station? You drive to the station to save money, then sit there in line for 5-10 minutes wasting gas. Seriously? Tell me you don't do that. You'll use much less gas starting your car, moving it up 5 feet, then shutting it off again while you wait. Car getting warm? Start it long enough to run the AC to cool down a bit. But then shut it back off.

Even better? Roll your windows down. Your closed up car is a perfect oven. That sun beating down on the roof drives the temperature inside "through the roof." But if you roll your windows down, the breeze will keep you and your car much cooler. So you can shut off your engine, listen to the radio and enjoy saving even more of what none of us have much of.

And, remember, you need to know your MPG and the number of miles to the cheap station. If you get 30 MPG and have to drive 10 miles to the station, you've just burned $1.30 to save $0.05/gal. If you only buy 10 gallons, you've saved 50¢. Do a little math. You're not saving a lot if you drive 30 miles to save $0.05/gal. But, if it's on your route? Or within a couple miles of your location? Probably a good idea. In the past, I have even stopped at an expensive station to add 3 or 4 gallons to the tank when I was too low to chance the next station. Here in Sierra Vista, for example, the average is around $4.50. But up in Benson (30 miles) it's $3.99. And it's on my route. So, If I was quite low in Sierra Vista, I would stop and get 2 gallons at $4.50, then drive to Benson (using one gallon,) then fill up there (15 gallons?) saving $7.50 at todays prices. At 300 miles from here to El Paso, it only takes me just over 1/2 tank. So that savings will last me a couple more weeks. I don't work, so I don't drive around town much. Mostly medical appts and shopping on occasion.

Safe and happy travels, folks. And cheap, too.

Our governor, Ron DeSantis is declaring a tax hiatus on gas for a certain time period, so the price of gas will be cheaper here in Florida? Anyone heard about this? I guess it will expire right after he is re elected lol......

I've heard talk about that from several angles, meaning several states. But haven't seen any actual action yet.

I have to admit I really haven't been anywhere in my car for a couple of months beyond going to and from work but it had gone up 20p per litre from when I last got some when I had to fill up this week... £1.679 at my local petrol station.

It's still $4.50 a gallon here - if I scroll back on this thread at one point it was about $1.65

Over $125 to fill up the van! Thank goodness everything we do here is close by! Maybe we should all ride our bikes more! The only problem is when you get wherever you are going you are disgustingly sweaty and smelly......

People here are starting to park their RV's and campers...no one can afford to put them on the road...and if you do get where you want to go, the price of campgrounds and hook-up fees are out of site.

Gas at my locals down to $4.06/$4.07, with the average in El Paso looking like it's around $4.11. Been there about a week now.
