Despite what most people seemed to think, I liked Howard. I really thought he added something to the mix.Yes, he was sometimes off-base, but I still liked him. Howard Cosell and Dandy Don.

Hey I was checking out some youtube videos and found this chick doing my favorite Beatles tune her name is Haley Legg. Looks like she may have done a little bit of editing.

Not too shabby. With that song I would have "fingered" the chord notes and "thumbed" the bass notes. She did a good variation though. Good find vectis.

Could that girl have been any cuter? Something about women playing stringed instruments...Lori Singer, the cello player in "Fame", Susan Sarandon in "Witches of Eastwick", and I saw Lili Haydn when she opened for Page/Plant in '98. THAT girl can fiddle! Beautiful video, that. Anything from "The White Album" is my favorite Beatles song!

Beatles On This Day - 9 February 1964

A significant day 46 years ago when The Fab 4 first performed "live" in the USA on the Ed Sullivan Show. Some trivia for you all :-

1) 73 million people across the USA tuned in that night to watch them perform.
2) The USA experienced the lowest crime rate among teenagers for the whole 1960's decade during the hour which this show was aired.
3) The Beatles received $10,000 for 3 appearances on the Sullivan show in the month of Feb 1964.

I was one of the very first people in the US to hear the Beatles.

On a rainy night in Baltimore in November '63, a few days after JFKs assassination, I was snugglking with a soft warm one in front of her fireplace when the DJ came on talking about a record a friend had brought back from England. He said, "She said this group is very poopular in England, and she thinks they might tour soon. It's a group called "The Beatles," and this release is number one in England. So take a listen and call us to tell us what you think."

Then he played, "I Want to Hold Your Hand."

This may be a bit :offtopic: offtopic.

But what follows are guitar tutorials about one of George Harrison's most beloved songs..

:sun: "Here Comes the Sun" :sun:

Here are a few lessons about learning how to play this song.

1. From Totally Guitars.com -- Neil Hogan has some really nice things to say, different styles of strumming - using a pick or just fingers. He has a website too where he talks about the song in some depth. The website is nicely arranged.

http://www.totallyguitars.com/

2. From Laurent (flamingcarrot) -- His is a set of six tutorials (The first of six is shown here). He explains the chords and uses the finger picking style. His was the first I noticed there at youtube. His myspace page has some other cool songs as well.

Both sets of lessons are very good.

A beginner may have some trouble with some parts of Laurent's lessons. He does tab it out on his myspace page though. What is uplifting is that his finger picking is excellent. It may be a bit tricky, take it slow and just stay with these lessons. You will learn alot.

Again both lessons are well thought out from Neil and Laurent.

Today 25 Feb 2010 would have been George Harrison's 67th Birthday.

It's sad that he's no longer with us; he was an integral part of the Fab 4 (and the youngest group member) even though he lived in the shadow of both John and Paul. His guitar playing and songwriting later on showed his genuine musical abilities. The music he gave us will live on forever! :clap :D

Speaking of the Beatles,,, here is a shot of Pete Best (u can go back in this thread for the JNY & I chat on which number he was) at a meet and greet affair when I ran into him. JNY I added the poster... He was there with Mickey Dolenz & Peter Tork. Didn't know that Peter was recovering from throat cancer.

Thanks JnY... located it. Of course, the Casbah and the rest is history. FOund this little ditty the other day furthering some of the discussion on Pg2

The original release of the single "Love Me Do" had Ringo Starr playing drums (xcept for the one in the Anthology which has Pete Best but he was the roadie and not the session drummer). It was subsequently released with drums played by Andy White, a studio drummer. Ringo stood by and played the tambourine.

:walt: great oldie! This is the lads in the 1958 timeframe when they were known as the Quarry Men. That was John Lennon's band When they played a church gig, Paul McCartney & John became friends with Paul joining around July of '57.

Harrison came on board around feb of 1958 after they had played at the cavern in January of that year.

One can only wonder if they had any inkling of what their careers were going to become especially where there talent was eminent by a first recording of a Rock & Roll Great - Buddy Holly;

Speaking of inkling, wouldn't you love to have a coy of that 45!

The QuarryMen

The origins of this band actually date back to 1955 when John first formed this group. Paul was introduced to John by a mutual friend and joined John's group in June of that year. George was Paul's schoolmate who went to hear the QuarryMen perform and was invited by John to join the group in 1956. The QuarryMen played dance halls and social meetings on and off for 2 years.
