never was a fan of Lennon and I don't know if it was because of Ono or if it was because he was part and partial for the break-up.

This just in - Ironic part is that his perception of Springsteen is so far off after 30yrs...as he is still the Boss!;

Three days before he was gunned down, John Lennon complained about his critics — saying they were just interested in "dead heroes" — and talked optimistically about his family and future, musing that he had "plenty of time" to accomplish some of his life goals.

Lennon's final interview was released to The Associated Press by Rolling Stone on Wednesday, the 30th anniversary of the musician's death. The issue with the full interview will be on magazine stands on Friday. While brief excerpts of Jonathan Cott's interview with Lennon were released for a 1980 Rolling Stone cover story days after Lennon's death, this is the first time the entire interview has been published.

"His words are totally joyous and vibrant and hopeful and subversive and fearless," said Cott in an interview on Tuesday. "He didn't mince words."

Lennon saves some of his harshest words for critics who were perennially disappointed with Lennon's path, in both music and in his life, after leaving the Beatles.

"These critics with the illusions they've created about artists — it's like idol worship," he said. "They only like people when they're on their way up ... I cannot be on the way up again.

"What they want is dead heroes, like Sid Vicious and James Dean. I'm not interested in being a dead (expletive) hero. .. So forget 'em, forget 'em."

He also predicted that Bruce Springsteen, then hailed as rock's bright future, would endure the same critical barbs: "And God help Bruce Springsteen when they decide he's no longer God. ... They'll turn on him, and I hope he survives it."

Hey John, Steve. I just ran across this photo that I'd never seen before. Is this a legit studio setting or was it staged?

I would tend to say that yes it probably is a authenic picture. I looks like a valid picture - probably done in 1965 or so. It does have George Harrison's 1962 Gretsch Country Gentleman, and Paul's Hoffner 500 bass guitar, pictured in it. But the picture is missing John Lennon's 1958 Rickenbacker 325. Hmmmmm?? Where is it?

I see that McCartney's 2 Self-Titled solo albums have been reissued in 2011 as well. They are McCartney from 1970 (after Beatles' breakup) & McCartney 2 from 1980 (after Wings' breakup) - both are worth listening to.

Any of you ever see Pauls Red Square concert? Probably one of my favorites.

Why? Because, while the damn politicos are arguing with and not trusting each other and the military is fighting, when Paul McCartney walks on stage, the world sings -- and sings LOUD! While the upper levels are bickering, the common people just want to sing and love life.

Least we not forget John Lennon's birthday. Had he been alive, he'd be 71 today.

Paul McCartney has married for the 3rd time today on what would have been John Lennon's 71st Birthday. Her name is Nancy Shevell & they were married at Old Marylebone Town Hall; the same Registry Office that he married Linda Eastman back in 1969. Paul's brother was best man & all his family were there too. This marriage looks like being more successful than his 2nd marriage was to Heather Mills back in 2002.

Since you seem so knowledgeable about the Beatles, have you ever heard of a record put out under the name The Masked Marauders that had Lennon,McCartney,Harrison,Mick Jagger & Bob Dylan? Someone gave me a copy of a CD he burned of the record, but it doesn't have artwork or any album info with it. Thanks.

Almost sounds like The Traveling Wilburys, except the Traveling Wilburys were totally for real. Their first album had Roy Orbison in the group. They did a video of "End of the Line" with Orbison. When he died, they remade the video, but replaced the shots of Orbison singing with a shot of a rocking chair with Orbisons guitar in it. I have that video with Orbison in it on tape somewhere.

Oh My God, Dan. You had it? That LP name is a blast from the past.

In my twenties, I saw that LP in protective plastic way above the register on the wall of an old record shop located on Broome Street, in Manhattan, NYC. The shop was selling it for $395.00+. I didn't know what it was. At the time, I thought it was cool. And I was trying to save up some money to buy it. Though I'm glad I didn't buy it. Lucky in fact, because I later found out that in actuality, it was a hoax. The hoax was put together by one of the Rolling Stone editors, Greil Marcus and a few of his writers and reviewers. "T.M. Christian" wrote the liner notes to the LP. That's a play-on-words with Terry Southern's novel and the movie, The Magic Christian, of the same name with Peter Sellers, Richard Starkey and Rachel Welch taken around the same timeframe. Over the years, I heard some of the songs. And some of it was pretty good. As "Jagger" sang -- "I Got No Nookie" (presently on youtube) He sounds a bit like him, but he's not. Also very good is "Dylan" singing, "Season of the Witch" some compare it to Donovan Leitch's mint version. The piano and bass playing by "MCartney" seems up to par. Paul's high standards. Lastly, the "Lennon" impersonator "talks" towards the end on the "Norwegian Wood" medley. He's quite good too. Although other stuff on the LP -- isn't so good. Like the "Dylan" version of "Duke of Earl." He sings it in a too low singing register. I thought.

Anyways, what did I buy with that saved up money? ... I bought not one but two John Lennon/Yoko Ono albums, The Wedding Album and Unfinished Music # 2: Life With Lions. I already had Unfinished Music # 1: Two Virgins.

In truth, in 1969, John Lennon was singing and playing rhythm guitar on "Yer Blues" and "Money (That's What I Want)" with Eric Clapton (ex-Cream; lead guitar), Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones; on bass guitar), and Mitch Mitchell (The Jimi Hendrix Experience, on drums) as The Dirty Mac on the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. The Dirty Mac was a take off on Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac was very popular in the United Kingdom at the time.



Later in the year, Lennon, Yoko Ono, Clapton, Klaus Voorman, and Alan White were in Toronto as the Plastic Ono Band, singing "Yer Blues," "Money," Give Peace a Chance," "Blue Suede Shoes," "Cold Turkey," and Dizzy Miss Lizzie" on the Live Peace In Toronto LP.

The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. Man that's a rarity. I think I've got that one on tape somewhere, too.

Walt I have the Stones' "Rock And Roll Circus" TV Special from December 1968 on DVD. Got it last Xmas as a gift from my Dad

The program captured the spontaneity, aspirations & communal spirit of life in swinging London in the late 60's. Yoko Ono said years later London was like that in those days. Jethro Tull & The Who also appear in the show. Seeing John Lennon with The Dirty Mac makes this DVD a collector's item I believe

I'll have to dig my copy out and watch it again. I don't remember where i got it, but I think I might have taped it off of TV. I might have the commercial VHS tape, tho. Thanks, Steve.
