10GB of data was "dumped" today by the group that hacked Ashley Madison.

gotta love it! This was their introduction:

We have explained the fraud, deceit, and stupidity of ALM and their members. Now everyone gets to see their data … Keep in mind the site is a scam with thousands of fake female profiles. See ashley madison fake profile lawsuit; 90-95% of actual users are male. Chances are your man signed up on the world’s biggest affair site, but never had one. He just tried to. If that distinction matters. …

Too bad for those men, they’re cheating dirtbags and deserve no such discretion. Too bad for ALM, you promised secrecy but didn’t deliver.…

I have no issue with exposing "cheaters," (there's a TV show that does that, named, appropriately "Cheaters,") but am not sure this is the right way to do it, And, who is to say that all of these people were even married? Maybe they're separated or single. (Of course, I consider "separated" as still married.) But, if they were single? Being married was never a requirement for joining the site, so possibly thousands of innocent people doing nothing more than looking to get laid have had their personal data compromised.

And, once having viewed the data, what is to keep other hackers from mining the credit data and unleashing even further havoc and mayhem? Both entities (AM and the hackers) should be investigated and brought up on charges. Believe what you will about cheaters, this wasn't the way to handle it.

For the TV show, "Cheaters," a suspicious spouse signs up with the show. The show then uses stealth methods to track the spouse. After gathering enough evidence to prove that cheating is happening, they report to the wronged spouse, and set up a place for that spouse to confront the cheater, while cheating, so that they can see for themselves that it is true, and the cheater can't deny it.

Personally I think it's kind of funny. Look it up on your cable system. It's in at least season 15.

I haven't tried to find any links, but I notice that none of the reports I've seen post the actual links to the data. I guess you could find one if you searched, but I'm just not that interested. :icon_gross:

someone already wrote a program and put it out there, where you enter your email address and see if you are in the database. Won't be long before someone starts charging women $5 a pop to see if their husbands names are in there, lol...

What bothers me is the police are chasing the hackers, but the sleazy place that encouraged hacking goes scott free. I guess in a way I understand it. But I find it pretty disgusting that a site like that can operate openly and freely while efforts to shut it down get punished. And, yes, I will fully agree that the way the hackers did it was totally wrong. I guess that's the whole issue. But, yes, the blame lies entirely, I believe, in Ashley Madison's lap.

The whole affair excuse the expression is just sick.

Eight executives who ran several popular Japanese dating websites have been arrested after it was revealed that out of their 2.7 million members, only one of them was a woman.
The men are accused of operating multiple scam websites for more than 10 years, paying staff members to pose as women looking for love rather than attracting genuine female members.
The scam sites are believed to have enriched the men to the tune of more than £34 million since they were set up in 2004, taking advantage of millions of lonely men who wasted time and money engaging in online conversations with employees operating fake accounts.

The spokesperson of Ashley Madison was quoted as saying
"It just goes to say that all press is good press ... The awareness of the brand is through the roof," Brooks said.

Are you kidding me? I sure hope no one is dumb enough to sign up there after all this? I don't get it, why give them your money? You get nothing in return! Join a decent porn site and you get content up the wazoo, hours and hours of live cam entertainment where you can get on cam too, and a members forum with jokes and intelligent and sexy conversation. Dating site = $0 value for your money.

And what really bugs me, is we get lumped in with them. Somehow they call themselves "adult industry" so we all become known as scammers and having no security.

Well just fyi you don't ever have to worry about that. 0 information is kept on our servers about our members, nothing but a username and password is on our servers, with no link to anything private. It's all on the ccbill servers. It's done that way for your protection, will several layers of protection. See I trust CCBill. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. These dating sites don't want to pay for the CCBill protection, so they do it all themselves and this is how it ends up. The hackers said the security was so easy to break it was as if students had done it for a project.

I just saw this in TV-News...

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/08/ ... O720150824

&

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -hack.html

Maybe these two are not the only who commited suicide, and many others will lose their jobs because they have moral clauses in their contracts, even worse, members of the military can be sentenced with one year of prison, but what does those damn hackers make believe they are of a higher morality level than all others?

They simply stole private data, they are criminals.
They are sitting somewhere in Mom's basement & are trying to play God.
I hope one of them gets catched by the police & some pissy prosecutor in Texas will sentence him for murder or sencond degree murder.

When is hacking OK? A good question, right?
Is it OK when Snowden puts the dirty washing of the NSA into public?
Is it OK if a schoolboy photographs his sister naked in the shower & shares it with his friends on FB?
Is it OK when a religious motivated hacker outs all the people which are cheating on there spouses?
...etc...etc...
I think no reason is OK, regardless what motivation they had.
Don't get me wrong, if a GOV institution is acting wrong you might have the right to be a whistleblower... one exception proves the rule.

In the AM case, the hackers are judging the people which sexual lifes are not matching with their social public lifes.
We all know that the sexuality goes different ways than moral determiantions, because it is nature.
There are gazillion of different arrangements you can have with your marriage partner.

To throw the moral bomb into the crowd like this is totally wrong because it leaves too many "collatral damages" ...

...& one last sentece at AM: They have been warned early enough, but they didn't react... that was simply irresponsible! Like Vicky said: Don't waste your money over there...
...& one last word to the hackers: The reason, "We've warned you (free of charge or not) to improve your system", is just lame. You are enjoying the power you have over other people. That's it!

A very sad story...

Carl :heartflames:

Yes, I appreciate very much what you are doing for us to have a safe system.
I saw how much work that was when you had been dealing with the Kaito Gray case.
& what you are still doing to keep it up :theman:

For me, one good reason (and some well known other) to enter your websites was CCBill, because I could stay incognito.
CCBill is like a big bank with similar high security levels.

NObody in this soap opera is good. They are all sleazes - Ashley Madison and the hackers. One problem is the folks at AM are claiming they have been wronged. They are screaming about the hackers like AM is so innocent and has been attacked by the hackers. Again, they are ALL ScumoftheEarth. One thing not being talked about is that AM is facing a massive lawsuit for not taking proper measures to protect users data. I can see them losing this one. Don't know what it would take, but hoping that they lose, and it costs them every penny they have, and the site gets shut down.

I hope they lose it, but did you see their terms and conditions? It clearly states that nothing is guaranteed to be private and safe..... I saw it printed somewhere i'll see if I can find it. It was actually on CNN today.

Not sure if that could stand up in court. Not much in the world is guaranteed to be private and safe. Look at the Target loss and others in the past. No site says that their members data is "guaranteed" to be private and safe. I think it's that the members have a reasonable expectation that their private information will be protected and that reasonable precautions will be taken to protect aid data. With that much data being stolen, it should be hard to fight that "reasonable precautions were taken."

I know it's kind of like when you park your car in a parking lot and pay $30 to the guy, and there is a sign that says "not responsible for stolen items'. That sign is there to deter people from suing, but you can still sue. And win, at least that's what I've been told. But it's iffy, the lawyers on CNN were saying it could either way, and that lately with the rise of the internet, people are expected to read before they click the X in the box, and that lately judges have been siding with the websites. They called it the "clickwrap law" or something?
