So this is really happening.

They just passed the bill, and we will have until April to be set up with some sort of age verification for any IPS coming from the UK.

More programming, more expense, more Hoops to jump through for us... it's getting harder and harder to be a p*** producer these days...

If this is happening in the UK, it doesn't seem to me that you should be blocking anything. Seems they they should become another Japan - censor all outgoing and police all incoming. It's not the US's responsibility to police the UK.

don't we have some international sites/people part of here, I wouldn't want to see us lose that membership, it sucks but you can't go oh well guess I'll just be blocked in UK, not how business works. Got to do the right thing even if it sucks.

Yeah at any given time 15% our membership base is probably UK so we would not want to lose that they are important to us!

My technical knowledge is very limited, but having read the whole thread, this seems utterly ridiculous.

The honest truth is that there is really no way to police the internet and keep people from seeing what they want to see. Even in China, with their firewall, millions of people still watch porn. And teenage boys will always jerk off to internet porn. God knows I did lol.

This, of course, doesn’t mean that reasonable steps shouldn’t be taken to try and stop underage kids from viewing pornography. But reasonable is the key word. Just like with FOSTA bill, these “feel good” bills ultimately do more harm than good, and will do very little, if nothing, to stop underage kids from watching porn. What they will end up doing is likely compromising personal information for tens of millions of people, even subjecting them to blackmail. As the video illustrates, your personal information could become inextricably linked to your sexual preferences.

While porn producers should do their reasonable best to prevent kids from accessing their site, but this responsibility ultimately falls on the parents to monitor their kids and take appropriate actions.

They have postponed it twice, there were so many technical issues they hadn't considered, now it's scheduled to go into effect April 2019. All I know is that if we refuse to comply, then Vickyathome.com and SaraJay.com and every single website that we have will be blocked from showing up in any search engine results Pages. Which will really suck for us. So it's just another expense and Hurdle for p*** producers who are already starving and struggling with stolen p*** Etc

Who knows though, with what's going on with brexit right now maybe this will get put on the back burner for another year.

Brexit is a mess, Parliament is saying they may not approve. Scotland is reconsidering having another vote of leaving the UK, and North Ireland has talked about reunifying with Ireland, so it might cause this to be pushed back more. Just another attack on the adult industry and people

Looking for smut won’t be so easy anymore in the UK as of April 1st. But not to worry, you can unlock those naughty videos with your ID. The government claims this new law is to protect children from the horrors on online porn.

The only way to get access is to register with the AgeID system, that uses your official ID such as a driver’s license or passport.

The new rules were approved as part of the Digital Economy Act 2017. They aim to make it harder for under-18s to get hold of adult material.

When a user first visits a site protected by AgeID, a landing page will appear with a prompt for the user to verify their age before they can access the site. It is a one-time verification, with a simple single sign-on for future access. If a user verifies on one AgeID protected site, they will not need to perform this verification again on any other site carrying AgeID.

If you’ve been in the adult industry for a while this may sound familiar to you, as a decade or so ago the adult industry used a similar system that ended up failing miserably. Sites like AgeCheck and Validate used to offer web surfers access to porn in exchange for verifying they are over 18. And by verifying they mean, using a credit card.

As well as registering with AgeID, Brits will also be able to access porn sites using a voucher you can buy from high street shops. Thousands of shops will offer special ID cards, which users can link to an app known as Portes. Through Portes, they can then log into sites without having to hand over their email address. The PortesCard is available to purchase from selected high street retailers and any of the UK’s 29,000 PayPoint outlets as a voucher.

Once a card or voucher is purchased, its unique validation code must be activated via the Portes app within 24 hours before expiring.

Once the user has been verified, they will automatically be granted access to all sites using AgeID.

Each PortesCard will cost £4.99 for use on a single device, or £8.99 for use across multiple devices.

The big controversy is that sites face fines of up to £250,000 or a blanket block by UK internet service providers if they do not comply. And not just sites in the UK. The new law allows the UK government to issue the fine to anyone, in any country.

Regulators will be also able to block porn websites if they fail to show that they are denying access to under-18s.

However, there are some reservations from experts. Dr. Victoria Nash of the Oxford Internet Institute says “it may make it harder for children to stumble across pornography, especially in the younger age range, but it will do nothing to stop determined teenagers.”

I still think the entire thing is ridiculous? So there will be a database of all uk porn watchers sitting somewhere just waiting to be hacked! Home addresses, ID's, ages, birthdays, etc..... Everything gets hacked at some point. Even with the most brilliant programmers, hackers look at it like a challenge. Home Depot has been hacked, as has target, facebook, Ashley Madison, Marriot Hotels, Adobe, EQUIFAX! The list goes on and on. If they can't protect a database, do you think the UK government can?

And the irony is Twitter gets a free pass? The whole thing is to protect children from porn, do you realize the kind of traumatizing things you can see on twitter? Just look at fister mister or a ton of other places? I just don't understand the whole thing?

Politicians can't think. Some do-gooder plants an idea in their head and they jump on it, without having a clue what they're doing. I get a lot of spam emails and robo calls thanks to those previous hacks. That's the main reason I kept my landline. I use that number when signing up for a website. That way, at least my cell doesn't get clogged up with Spam calls.

Not a word about all the murder and violence on most all "Family-hour" programming. The usual response to complaints about that is "people aren't influenced by what they see on TV." Tell me this. Will everyone have to go thru new sign-in options, or will this only apply to users in England? If it's only England, do you have to have two separate sign-in functions?
