My family has the other dachshunds, and they are companions but I still hurt and miss my baby.
Love Dachshunds; we currently have 2, boy Willie a regular short hair black & tan, a girl Rosa a long hair miniature English cream (looks like a small golden retriever lol). Both are around 6 yrs old, rescue pups. We have had 4 before these two. They are part of the family. Lol

Out pups are family. When it's just me at home for a few days I don't feel alone. They are great companions & we have great conversations lol.
If I leave I will make sure I know where they are & then tell them where I am going & when I will return. I also leave the TV turned on so they can watch it lol.
I love my pups, like hearing stories about them, especially when it's a happy story lol.

Lol, I can imagine. These dang JRT's really are quite smart. Did I ever tell you that Fred has learned to unlatch the front gate and get out?

I have about a 2-1/2' chain link fence around my lot. The gates have a U-Shaped Fork Lock. I went out one afternoon and Fred was nowhere to be seen, and the back gate was open. So, either I forgot to close it, or someone else opened it. I didn't really believe that, so I was at a loss. That's the good thing about this park. It is fenced in all around, so he can't really get out unless he can find the front gate. I found him at my friend Joy's house, sitting on her back porch (another story, lol.)

So I closed the gate and brought him home. A week or two later the same thing happened with the front gate. OK, NOW I'm gonna get pissed. I was probably 95% sure that I hadn't left it open.

Anyway, another week or two later, he was outside. I went out on the porch. He figured we were going somewhere, so he headed for the gate. As I watched, that little bugger jumped front paws up onto the gate, and, with his nose, nudged the fork lock up, where it stayed. The gate was now unlocked, and he pushed on the gate and started out. "Why, you little bugger!" He came back when I called (yelled, lol.) Certainly couldn't punish him for anything, but I learned to put a carabiner type lock on each gate.

Let's see you get out now, you little bugger. :rotffl:

That's adorable! Have you ever seen one of those dogs? They are bigger than Great Danes!

I know! I saw one once just before a run. Strangers were going up to the owner to ask permission to take pictures. Its a good thing they are gentle giants, I wouldn't want to be on bad terms with one of those.

one year during Memphis in May the host country that was chosen(always honor a different country every year except this year since Memphis turned 200, it was all about Memphis) they chose Ireland and had a Irish fest at a Park, some people had brought some Irish Wolfhounds and they are big.

Harvey on the other hand will eat absolutely anything and everything. Eats his meals in 30 seconds or less. Eats apple's beans lettuce cucumbers carrots, raw or cooked, lol... So far there is nothing he won't eat! Guess that's from living on the street for years before I got him. He still acts like he is starving to death.

Over 30 years ago, when I was still married, my wife and I would house sit for friends who had a Russian Wolfhound named Murphy. I think they said he weighed 140 pounds. When we were having dinner he would beg by walking over and putting his head DOWN onto the table. When we took the dogs (the other one was a bichon frise named Chauncey) for a walk, people in cars would circle the block so they could see them more than once.

I knew someone once who had a shelter dog like that. He was actually quite a problem, because if not watched, he would eat anything and everything to the point of making himself sick. He had a whole tub of margarine once.

And we once had a dog that would refuse certain things (such as banana). UNLESS it came off the table while we were eating. Then he'd choke down anything, even if he hated it!

Yep Harvey eats bananas too lol... he must have a high metabolism though because he is like perpetual motion. Even if he's lying down still he's chewing on a bone. He had heartworm also when I first got him that was a long recovery, and then, 2 years ago he had cancerous tumor, but we caught it immediately and the vet thinks we removed all of it and he's fine. You would be amazed how fast he can run when I'm on rollerblades with him.

Considering how short his legs are, Fred can beat a pretty good cadence. Well, he can outrun me, at least, LOL.

You know I just googled "the best dogs to run with" and Jack Russel was like #5? I was shocked! For a tiny dog? Short legs? Loki used to run up to 7 miles with me in the Georgia mountains on cool days! I got different results on all the pages, everyone had their top 10 and top 20 dogs for running partners, the results were very surprising!

Fred certainly does "pour on the coals" when he does run. I take him out in the desert on an old dirt road in the mornings. He generally stays pretty close, but does amble on down the road a bit. When I call him, he really pours it on coming back. Next time we go out (tomorrow,) I'll get some video.
