PeterL22 glad you like the Good Place i hated it didn't think it was funny at all it's an NBC series and season 2 is now just starting

I think its Ted Danson that works for me in the Good Place.
You are right about US versions of UK Classics - examples that spring to mind are two of my very favourite series - Life on Mars (including Ashes to Ashes) and The Prisoner - both of which had dire US versions that totally lost the plot(literally). For anyone who has only seen the US versions, I strongly urge you to seek out the originals - it isn't me being a superior Brit, they are just really, really good!
The other series that did become a hit over there is The House of Cards - but I would argue that the UK original with Francis Urquhart as the scheming MP (eventually PM) was great. You may say that his plotting was brilliant, but I couldn't possibly comment........

Ooohh that sounds interesting! What is the premium plan? I didn't know there was one?

The only thing good about Dave being gone is i get to watch "orange is the new black" at night, he says it's a chick thing, and will not watch it with me, lol..

Premium service allows for four devices streaming simultaneously and at a greater resolution (Ultra Hi-Def) when available, otherwise it's the same content. Basic is one device, and the standard plan would let you watch Orange is the New Black while Rokkerr watches something else, haha.

That's my life as a forever-alone, nobody to Netflix and chill with... the struggle is real, but at least Netflix is cheap.

You will meet someone George! It only happens when you are not looking and not expecting it. So just live your life and do your thing, and it will happen when you least expect it.

I really enjoyed The Good Place. I thought it was one of the best new comedies last year. While I have to agree that most american versions of british shows arent nearly as good as the originals, there are some exceptions. All In The Family, Sanford and Son, and Three's Company were all american remakes of british shows. I think one of my favorite british shows would have to be Good Neighbors. I've seen the whole series several times and still enjoy it.

Quoting myself, how sad is that!!?????
But if my American friends (yes, despite the teasing about language there are some of you there who I regard as friends - and you know who you are) really want an insight into British politics, the Houses of Parliament and , I suppose, how we are different - I really urge you to watch the ORIGINAL version of "House of Cards" or the sequel "To play the King". They are funny, intriguing and generally great TV (originally shown on BBC) and although some of the things happening may seem a bit dated - the overall premise is still valid.
Another great series about British Politics (which is relevant today) is "Yes Minister" or the sequel "Yes, Prime Minister" - they are brilliant comedies - satire is the word that springs to mind!

Talking of BBC - there is a really clever cop/murder show on at present called Rellik, which I'm hooked on. Being honest, which of you have noticed that the title is "Killer" backwards. That's important, because the action actually goes backwards. The series starriest with the killer being caught/dying, but then goes back in time - you get a scene preceded by a sentence on screen saying "13hrs earlier" (or whatever) so the story actually goes backward - it is really, really good - I know that accessing BBC iPlayer in USA is difficult, but if you can get to see this series, you will NOT be disappointed!

Quick plug for a show that started on UK Netflix this week - "Mindhunter". Its set in 1977 and is about an FBI Hostage Negotiator who gets moved to teach in Quantico. He starts to wonder about psychology of crime and criminals and I think goes on to become a Profiler (remember this is set in 70s). Only watched the first episode but it has me hooked - I have ordered the original book from Amazon!

I'm sure that they have been mentioned before, but if you have never seen them - especially if you are a Brit of a certain age - "Life on Mars" and "Ashes to Ashes" are required viewing. By the way don't bother with the US version of Life on Mars - its cr@p!
Gene Hunt is so good its untrue - and the quotes
"Don't go all Dorothy on me!"
"It's 1973, almost dinnertime, I'm having Hoops."
Pure class.
The explanation at the end of Ashes is cool too.
Oh, and the soundtrack - especially the "Life on Mars" soundtrack is superb!
I might even do a Gene Hunt a day for a few weeks!

Gene Hunt on road safety just before a high speed car chase
"Take that seatbelt off! You're a Police Officer, not a bloody vicar!"

My reply to Vicky on the Wales thread reminded me of two shows on TV here that could help explain us Welsh to you.
Just ended on Sky over here "Stella" - three series about a woman living in Pontyberry in the Welsh valleys - a lot about her exlovers, kids and the characters of the village - including an English lawyer called Michael Jackson. Great fun - lots of in jokes that may take time to get used to.
Other one was , I think, Channel 4 called "Gavin and Stacey" - Gavin is a young guy from Essex (with all that entails) who meets and eventually marries Stacey ( a girl from Barry - a seaside town just outside Cardiff). Different cultures and again great characters. Best one is Nessa, who is a mountain of a woman from Barry with lots of tattoos, different way of talking and drives a truck.
Common thread to both is a Welsh comedian called Ruth Jones who writes bot and plays Stella and Nessa.
Really funny shows and Nessa is tremendous - look for her on Youtube!

I expect this may have been posted before - but I'm too lazy to check - anyway think of this as a reminder!
How about "Black Sails" which was once described to me as "Game of Thrones" with pirates - so what's not to like Me Hearties!
It is pretty good, about Nassau and Capt Flint.
Another series (I think there are actually 3 series so far) well worth a watch

Bonus today - two Gene hunt sayings - don't forget see them all on "Life on Mars"

1/ He's got fingers in more pies than a leper on a cookery course!"
2/ She's as nervous as a very small nun at a penguin shoot!

Has anyone started watching "Stranger Things"? I have watched a new show on regular TV called "The Gifted". I have to get on Hulu to catch up but the one show I saw was pretty good.
