It's been a while - all in the name of research!
Vodka's the drink and Chase is the name!
Chase vodka is distilled in England, in Herefordshire - more well known as a cider producing county!
There are two great things about this potato vodka - firstly its really good (and has interesting varieties) and secondly its relationship with crisps (or chips if you are in the USA).
There is a farmer in Herefordshire that grows potato to produce rather nice crisps - my favourite are seasalt and cider vinegar (but ham and cranberry and Aberdeen Angus beef and English mustard also get notable mentions). Not all of the potatoes are suitable to be made into crisps, some are just too small.
But their lives are not in vain; they can be used to make potato vodka - hoorah!
The basic Chase vodka is smooth and is actually reasonably priced, bur their flavoured vodkas are a real treat. Try Marmalade vodka (I have the original orange marmalade variety, but the do a Eureka Lemon Marmalade too) - its doesn't spread on toast but tastes delightful.
Specially for Maggie, they also do an Espresso vodka - both the essential drink groups (vodka and coffee ) in one hit!!!

My bottle of the espresso vodka has arrived, so I've tried it. Definite coffee but quite sweet. Think Tiramisu (the Italian coffee flavoured sponge dessert) or moderately strong Cortado coffee.
Pleasant, but it would be easy to forget you were drinking vodka!

To go with your gin you need to buy the best tonic you can get - what's the point of having really great gin if you mix it with bad tonic?

For everyday use I go for Fevertree - easy to get and you can choose ordinary, Aromatic, with elderflower or Mediterranean.
However, there are a couple of more pricey (and harder to get hold of) tonics that can add to the experience.
Firstly, Lamb & Watt - another English company who do good tonic and have varieties with Cucumber, Basil and Hibiscus. The cucumber works surprisingly well with Dry London type gins - definite hint of cucumber which enhances the gin rather than overpowering it! Hibiscus is my favourite - really nice!
Finally, if you really want to splash out there is 1724 Tonic from Peru! The herbs are grown on the Inca trail at an altitude of 1724ft (gives it the name) and it is a really delicate tonic. It boosts the flavour and notes of the gin - don't waste it on Gordon's , Bombay Sapphire or other supermarket gins! Problem is no major company imports it to UK (sorry I don't know the status in USA) so its really expensive - when I tried it I ended up paying more for postage than for the actual tonic. But it was really nice!

Tip to UK readers - DO NOT buy Schweppes unless you are drinking cheap gin to get drunk - go for Fevertree - you'll thank me for it!

I like the "...makes you dance like a nerd," too. Everyone remember PeeWee Herman? Dancing like a nerd (and Tequila) just might save your life.

Helloooooo!

While I'm dying from the flu, I'll tell you about wine tasting in Oregon that I did two weeks ago. We went to the Wilamette Valley..think that's what it's called...and let me tell you, it was breath taking! Stunning views and so serene. Like standing in a post card. We went to 4 wineries and I enjoyed the wine at all of them except the last one. The Pinot Noirs were outstanding and I sent some bottles home. I've been too sick to drink them of course but something to look forward to.

Wow - its been a long time (lots of bottles passed into the recycling bin since the last post), but I thought you all might like to hear about a Church that deals with the Holy Spirit!

Associated Press 21/4/18

"Gable Church is a church for those who have rejected other churches," Bishop Tsietsi Makiti told his congregation in Johannesberg, "because they drink alcohol. Here, we celebrate the drinking of alcohol. Our aim is to convert bars, taverns, and shebeens into churches, to convert tavern-owners into pastors. Gable Church was established to redeem the people who are rejected, who are regarded as sinners. We baptise with beer, and ordain ministers with a double whiskey in the chalice. We drink for deliverance, we are drinking for the Holy Ghost to come unto us."
Nigel Lehasa, the professor of scripture at Gabola church said "Nothing is as happy in the world as people who drink." He told reporters "There is no fighting. No arguing. We have nothing but love!"

I've been drinking Jameson for the past 3 years that's my go to liquor. My 2nd favorite is Grey Goose. As far as beer it's Bud Light, Michelob Ultra & as of this summer Pabst Blue Ribbon.

I have been drinking Barefoot Wines of late, Pink Moscato and Pinot Grigio. I will do Teremana or Sauza silver tequila. Once in awhile I will get a Bud Lime or Bud Light beer. I do better with white wines than red ones, also do better with silver liquor than gold/dark.
