I walk a lot everyday, and swim about once a week, but am searching for some new hobby to train my body. I'm also looking for something more social than swimming or going to the gym alone. My goal isn't to build muscle that much, but to get stronger and more in shape so I can, for example, run longer and to feel good physically and mentally. Any recommended sports or tips for me? :)

When I was younger I joined a few leagues to keep active and meet new people. They were competitive but not so much that they were not fun to be part of...soccer, bowling, volleyball, house league hockey, drop in hockey, I joined a running club (thats a great place to meet women)

I'm not sure where you live but nothing beats a seasonal league to meet new people and have some fun. You'll find one that matches your ability or a fun league...either way, get out, meet some new people and have some fun!!!! :yeahbaby:

This is what exercise does for you. Well, starting with a gorgeous countenance and smashing shape doesn't hurt anything, but you've gotta work hard to keep it there. And Vicky does that. This is the result. Hell, I'd give up bachelorhood for this.

Yes George! Love the new avatar!
We ran 4 miles this morning along a riverbed back and forth across some bridges.... We left Florida with 95% humidity where a 3 mile run would suck the life out of you..... Tomorrow we will run 5 miles before getting on the plane at noon to come home! If I lived here I could easily work up to 10 mile runs im sure of it! It sure looks different though like being on another planet....

Thanks guys, avatar came from a little inside joke between me and Sunny, lol.

So I am half way to glory...
Having worked VERY hard at running off some weight... I am at a bit of a roadblock.

I at chocolate cake and icecream ONE day and it seems to have stalled ANY improvement over the last 4 days even though I did 3 miles in 29 minutes on the treadmill (which I would have thought would have negated my icecream and cake mistake).

The last 10 pounds are always a mother fucker...

lol...tell me about it Rokkerr. Good on ya for your treadmill work over the past little while. Sometimes bodies have a thermostat that you have to kick into the right direction once in a while. You'll get there...just keep doing what you're doing :)

I've been at a complete standstill after a much deserved vacation, but feel like I'm finally headed in the right direction again.

Good on everyone who has taken on a program out there to better themselves...you'll get where you want to go ...just keep at it :hump: :lokirun: :penguin:

I have no problem with the exercise part of it! I love to exercise! Exercise turns me on! I also love to eat! Goddamit! I gave up drugs and alcohol for over 30 years! Can't I have a little fun! I love icecream and cake! Last August I decided to try to eat better, so I started using this app called "MyFitnessPal" where you track all your calories. It really did help and I lost about 12 lbs? Now I have gained half of it back again and I'm up and down like a yoyo! Look at my graph. AAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH...
weight.png
I run like a mofo for a while, then get sidetracked with traveling or work overload. When I'm stressed out I eat more. Eating is such a social thing too.... when friends get together, what do you do? You go eat! It's fun! Plus we work from home, so sometimes we just want to get away from the computers and out of the house, so what do we do? We go eat! lol....

Anyway I just discovered something interesting. When I run on the treadmill very fast, level 6 or more, I burn about 500 cal in 30 min, but when I walk on the incline (12 - 15% incline) for the same amount of time, I burn 450 cal, almost just as much! How is that possible? The running makes me sooo tired but the walking on incline doesn't? So now I decided to alternate, do do one or the other every day, so on days when I'm too tired to run, I'll do the walking.

What do you think Julie? Where is our fitness guru Julie?
