I know. If I could ever do even ONE mile in under 5 mins I'd be dead. Either from the effort of trying, or from the shock of realization that I'd actually succeeded!!

If I can run 5 miles and maintain a 10 min mile i'm elated!

Beer run this Sunday

8 km - 6 beer stops (only samplers at the first five!)

This is going to take a LOT longer than even a 10 min. mile, never mind 5!!

Are you serious? How can you drink anything without gettung a stitch in your side.

I'm so glad to be back into my routine at home! I went to the gym Mon and Tues and will go today and Friday as well. I just don't feel like myself when I don't workout. I think I get cranky!

I'm not much of a beer drinker, so personally I only take a taste of the samplers. But the first beer run I was on you wouldn't believe how some of the younger runners were knocking back the samples. Actually, given they were mostly 20 somethings, you probably would believe.

If you're prone to getting a stitch while running, try holding one arm straight up for a few minutes while running. Apparently the stitch will disappear. This is advice from someone who has done a LOT of distance running. The year she turned 52 she ran 52 marathons - one a week for a year. So her advice should not be lightly discounted.

I don't know about the cranky part, but this statement by Vicky in the Weather thread got my attention hehehe:

I'm so jealous of you guys getting to run in cool weather! Even when it's really cold out I might start off with a hat and gloves and a long sleeve shirt but as I run I start leaving a trail of clothes behind me and by the time I finish I have almost nothing on because I overheat so easily. Sometimes Rokkerr has to drive the car behind me and pick up all my stuff...

Sure. Go ahead, Andrew. Tell me you wouldn't marry Vicky if she'd let you drive along behind her picking up her discards. :rotffl:

If it were me, I'd let her run to Toledo just so we could get down to the panties (or less, LOL.)

When i first started running, I used to get the stitch in my side so easily! I couldn't have any coffee before going out to run, not even a sip of water or it would happen for sure. As I got more used to running though, now I can drink a cup of coffee while I'm getting ready to go and still be fine! That's interesting about running with your arm up! I'm assuming you hold up the side that bothers you. I'll try it the next time it happens!

We have been doing lunge walks around the outside of the gym, out the front door, around the back of the building, through the parking lot, around the side, and back to the front door. I love doing it! I always lead the way. It's exactly 200 long lunges non stop.

It's working well.
I sell the tickets to the guys who gather in the Parking Lot!

(Not meant to be creepy - honest)
Here was certainly a sin worth sinning and I applied myself with characteristic vigour to its practice

I couldn't drink a cup of coffee before a run - I just take a few sips of water. Let me know if the arm in the air maneuver works.

200 lunges - wow! That is a LOT as a warm up routine. We do maybe 20 (that's why Pete doesn't sell tickets to ours). Do you do other stretches before running?

This is truly inspirational! This woman only started working out when she was 70, and she lost 60 lb and got off of every one of her medications!
