Plus, I'm sure that there were some bribing to get followers, too.

Actually yes... it's called phoney bogus accounts - Newt Gingrich got busted for buying them...

But the thing is, they are not real followers. They eventually drop off one by one once twitter figures it out. They always close fake accounts as a general rule. These followers can't interact and they can't vote for you in a contest. It costs money and the only reason to do it is to look good, like you have more followers.

You kind of wonder when someone who has over 100K followers can't come in the top 100 in miss freeones, it just proves my point.

The most followers I've ever gotten in a day is 4000.
