4 weeks to go, the long wait is almost over. This week will have the second test sessions. After the first is was the usual suspects at the front again.
But testing never tells the whole story. The first race will make it clear where everyone stands.

Rain, rain, rain. Both Q2 and Q3 have been postponed to Sunday morning. Race will still start at 5pm local time in Australia, 7am here in Holland!
Marco ~~ Guess that's 6am in Ireland?

You guessed right GJ. I had the alarmclock set both saturday and sunday. The saturay was a bit of a wash out. But q2 and q3 were on at 12 midnight, which was a nice time to watch. Seeing Vettel on pole again didn't really make me happy. After that a short nap and than the race.
It wasn't spectaculair to see but when Kimi wins it is always good to watch.
This weekend the race will be in Malaysia 8am irish time. The temp will be higher so tyre wear will be different. And the outcome of the race could be completly diferent than in Oz. As long as Vettel doesn't win i'm happy ;-)

Got home pretty late last Saturday night, so I didn't get up at 7am, but watched a summary of the race on Sunday. Think it's pretty cool that Raikkonen (Lotus) won the first trophy of the year. Now curious to find out how good Ferrari and Lotus really are in 2013. Will they be able to give RedBull a real battle..?
I'll miss Malaysia, too. Gonna be in the States then.

What the hell happend in Malaysia?!? Alonso out after 1 or 2 laps, Vettel thinking his ego is more important than the team ...
Marco, fill me in, lol.... from your point of view, what happend?

Well Gert-Jan. The first two corners in Malysia are very tight, Alonso damaged his front wing when he hit the rear wheel of Vettel. Because they were all on the intermediate tyres Ferrari hoped the front spoiler would hold on till the first stop. And in doing so changed to dry weather tyres and change the wing at the same time. But at the start of the second lap the wing broke off and came stuck under the car so Alonso when straight on into the graveltrap ending his race. The first have there were some nice fights but in the second half it was a mather of saving fuel and tyres. The problem the teams had was that the fastest of both leading teams, red bull and mercedes. Was the car in second place. Webber was leading followed by a faster vettel. Hamilton in third followed by his faster teammate rosberg. The teambosses on the pitwall were looking for the total points for the constructors championship. And told the drivers to hold position although the drivers wanted to overtake. In the end rosberg did what was asked of him, vettel didn't. And almost repeated the manouvre he did in turkey when he crashed out. Almost taking webber out at the same time.
After that followed a podium on which no driver really thought he was on the step he deserved. it was really awkward to see.
At least it gives something to talk about till next race, which is in two weeks in china. Live on the BBC.

Interesting grid ...
Hamilton on pole position, Raikkonen second and Vettel ninth! The Red Bull driver decided to go with tyres that last longer. We shall see how his strategy works out this time. My first LIVE F1 race of the new season. I'm ready, bring it on! Yes, I'm excited...

That was a fine race. In my opinion anyway. Kimi's race was compromissed by a bad start and a damaged front wing. he could have challenged for the win. Alonso was unstoppable however after a brilliant start. The ferrari's are very quick of the line.
Starting on the harder tyres didn't really work out for vettel, he was one corner short of a podium finish. Not to sorry about him anyway after his remarks in thursdays press conference.
Webber had a bad weekend after starting from pitlane he lost a wheel after his pitstop.
Next week Bahrain.

Nope, Vettel's strategy sure didn't work out the way they had planned it. Not caring about the qualification and starting on the medium compound is not a bad idea, BUT key is to make one pitstop less than the other teams do, lol. As for Webber, he seems to have too many of such "bad weekends". Webber having a good start is rare ... I'm challenging you, give me one race in which Webber had a great start...
In my opinion, Alonso and Raikkonen are the best F1 drivers. Sure, Vettel has won lots of Championships over the past few years, but that's all thanks to Newey's car. Alonso and Raikkonen are driving in one that's not as good as the Red Bull, but they are racing for P1, which tells us the quality of the driver is just as important. Massa, Grosjean ... enough said, right? What did you think of Perez/Raikkonen, when the McLaren "forced" the Lotus off the track?
And why is Van Der Garde in F1?? Oh wait, cause he has a big "sponsor" that gave him the seat ...

Races aren't won at the start anyway. But i agree Webber isn't known for his good starts, but i'm sure he had some.
During commentating Coulthard mentioned al ready that perez was weaving a lot under braking. Might be the pressure of driving for Mclaren while at the same time the car isn't the best. Button was lucky to get fifth place in the race.
With overtaking it's always hard to say when you have past someone and when you can't defend anymore. But kimi had to take avoiding action to not take perez off. It's not inexperience since Perez did a nice job at Sauber.
I saw Giedo van der garde during a F1 demo in dublin. He tried to spin the car around and stalled the engine, twice. But to be fair to him ,caterham, after being the best of the new teams three times in a row is slipping back.
Just wish i had a dad-in-law as rich as him

Exciting race again... loved the ongoing battles, especially between Button and Perez!
Seriously, though, what was Perez trying to achieve??
I'm still not used to seeing Hamilton in the Mercedes car. In fact, every time I see a McLaren I keep wondering if that's Button or Hamilton. Mercedes/Hamiton looks odd, but that's just my opinion, lol... Rosberg started from pole position, but both the car and strategy were never good enough to compete for the victory in Bahrain.
Poor weekend for Ferrari. Alonso deserves a mention, though, finishing 8th without DRS. He shouldn't have used it anymore after he made his first stop...
