I usually attempt to keep my Pro-Sex/Pro-Porn Independent Hard Lefty politics out of here, so I hesitated to get in on this..but, since Vicky asked so nicely, I'll respond as honestly as I can.
Personally, I think Trumpster is basically a rich right-wing reality show hack using his casino millions to buy his way into the Presidency, but he seems to have caught a nerve with plenty of real people who think that they are losing ground in an America that is fast fading from the 1950's conservative families. To that end, Trump is the flip side of that other insurgent on the Democratic side, Bernie Sanders.....except that Sanders is fighting against a Democratic Party establishment and mostly establishment corporate media with nowhere near the institutional or financial power that The Donald can wield. The fact that Trumpster actually has a better than even chance of winning the nomination shows very well the anger of the GOP base who feels that their establishment isn't doing the job of standing for "conservative" principles.
If he has to face Hillary Clinton in the general, though, he'd better get a better game than what he's shown, for appealing exclusively to the Hard Right probably won't work too well. Didn't work for Mitt Romney against Barack Obama in 2012, either.
