Either that or Alaska, and definitely not Alaska!
Oh yeah! I forgot about Alaska.

When I was in college in Buffalo, my German teacher commuted from Canada every day, so that was the first thing to pop into my head.

I just noticed: Why is my message "Either that or Alaska..." date stamped 31 December 1969???

That was me, playing around. It got locked down (presumably by someone reading it, maybe me?) before I could reset it. I took my experiments to the Personal Message domain with Vicky and made things worse. She threatened to spank me in the fashion of her recent video with Sunny Lane, but later forgave me. I promised to be a good boy from now on.

OK, I see what you were up to. The original post has the correct time stamp or else I would have had to tell Vicky she has a serious IT security issue.

But now,

She threatened to spank you and you promised to be good?? Am I missing something here?

One afternoon, an electrical engineering student was riding across campus on a shiny new bike. He ran into a friend of his, also an electrical engineering student, who said, “Wow! That sure is a great bike. Where did you get it?”

“Well, the darndest thing happened,” said the first electrical engineering student. “A girl came riding up to me and got off the bike, threw off all her clothes, and said that I could have anything that I wanted.”

“Wow,” remarked his friend. “That’s great. Good move. Her clothes probably wouldn’t have fit you anyway.”

Nothing even in the ball park with Vicky....I attended college for 6 years, but never got to finish to get my degree (majored in secondary music education); then glommed around searching for jobs until I landed my current one....which I am approaching my 20th year at by next Feburary.

I wish I had the body and the smarts to enter porn, much less enter at such an advanced age and be as successful as Vicky has.

Yes, welcome back!

I've never even made it to 10 years in any one job. Just passed the 11 year mark as an independent contractor after I was laid off from my last position. Sounds to me like you're doing OK for yourself.

Did you hear about the constipated engineer? He worked it out with a pencil. It was a natural log.

Ewwwww....

Porn is the longest I've ever done anything! Before that 5 years was the max before I'd get bored or feel stagnated and look for something else...

I started out in Denver with Martin Marietta. Lockheed bought Martin, so it became Lockheed Martin Aerospace. I was with them for 17 (edited) years.

Kudos for having the will to change things up when you became dissatisfied! And building your own website into what it is today is so impressive....

I spent 33 years as a civilian with the Navy. The one time I was dissatisfied enough to consider giving up the sweet, sweet retirement system, the outside job market was terrible! Now that I finally collected my prize, I want to look into starting one or more businesses (manufacturing).

I’ve been at my current job for 15 years now and I’m in that position of not really wanting to do it anymore but at the same time not wanting to start looking for anything else!

(I sometimes end up writing pretty long posts. Hope this doesn't bore you too much, lol.)

I don't know how old you are or what you do, Stevie, but I can say that I pretty much had jobs I liked throughout my life. Yes, I did have one job for 17 years. That was my last one, and the one I decided I'd better keep if I wanted any kind of retirement. If you will get a retirement from your company, I would suggest staying for another 5 years to round it off at 20. That will equal a higher retirement. (Well, not sure how things work in England.)

I should have stayed for 20 years. Long story, but I got fed up with things at 17 years, so I "retired." Because of that, I get 3 or 4 hundred dollars less (monthly) than I would have if I had stayed. I don't remember the numbers now, but it was kind of significant. I ran the numbers and decided that I could handle it. And, I have. But a couple hundred more I wouldn't bitch about, lol.

I'm guessing that most folks, once they hit 60 or so, have generally a pretty good history to look back on. As far as jobs are concerned, I was a radio electronics technician. That's the work I did for most of my life. I learned it in the Air Force. I loved it. In the late '60's, over 5 years, I worked for factories that made large (8' - 10' diameter, 20' long) cement drainage pipes, I spent time working in the auto factories in the Detroit area. I helped make hoods (bonnets to you Brits? lol,) and roofs and fenders. I helped make Thunderbird doors. I helped make plastic parts for cars, operated a turret lathe to make twist drills, lots of great jobs. Changing jobs wasn't my aim, it was my general irresponsibility. In the late '60's, jobs were plentiful. I had 6 (or was it 8?) jobs in 1968. I would work for a month or so, then I'd have enough gas and beer money for a week or two. Then it'd be back to work for another month or so, lol. But then in the late '60's ('69 or so) the auto industry dropped a bit and jobs got harder to get.

Then I saw an ad in the paper for R.F techs in Alaska. I called the guy, he said come out and test. I did, he said I can offer you a job, and off I went to Alaska.

I worked out in the 'bush' (remote radio sites) for 3 years, then at company headquarters in Anchorage for 3 years. From there, spent 3 years in Spain helping build another communications system for the Spanish military.

After that I went back to Alaska for a couple years. Then, after a 6-month vacation riding my motorcycle around the country, I settled in L.A. as a radio technician for a large aerospace company. I worked for them for 5 years (worth $78,24/month in retirement, lol.)

Long story, but I got an offer for a job in Denver for another Aerospace company. They hired me, and that began the coolest job I could ever hope for, for 9 years - total of 17 years with the company. So that built me up a decent retirement. I'm not rich, but I get enough to live decently and travel when I want to. For example, I'm headed to Arizona next Wed to dog-sit for my son for 10 days or so while he travels to attend a couple of endurance runs. I'm hoping that the Nightmoves Awards weekend happens in Tampa in October. I think I'll feel safe enough to travel.

The point of all this? We all have cool things to look back on. Are you under 40 or 50? You may have some pretty good memories. But wait until you're 60 or 70. You will have your entire life to look back on. That's not as much fun as living it, but you can be happy with a life well lived. And I'm betting that applies to all of us.

Sure there are down times. There are rough times. But, to me, they were all fun times. Yes, even the rough times. My ex divorced me in the mid '80's and took my 2-year-old son 1400 miles away. That was hard. Every event in your life is an experience. The good experiences make us feel good and happy. The bad experiences teach us. We learn from those experiences. And we keep moving forward. (And I now have a great relationship with my son.)

Things are rough for a lot of people right now. Hopefully getting better, but not totally yet. All I can offer is to "keep the faith." I know that sometimes it's hard to see where things are going. But we always keep pushing forward. We always keep looking for better opportunities, a better life.
I can resist everything except temptation.

Depending on your line of work, going into business for yourself as an independent contractor could be an option.
