We were -12 wind chill a few days ago with 6 inches of snow on the ground and today going up to 50.

Wow! Never spent any time thinking of where all that water came from, lol. Rio Grande has been 6" deep for years, so you just don't think of it. I drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry. Them good ole boys were still there, though, drinking whiskey and Rye,.

27 degrees F (-2.8 C) and snowing. Expecting between 3-5 inches (76 to 127 mm) overnight, turning into a horrible mess of rain and snow tomorrow. And, with clear skies and 45 F (7.2 C) predicted for Wednesday, hopefully it all goes away before I have to go anywhere. The road crews are already at it. If the accumulation ends up being more than 3 inches I will get to see my plow guy! I haven't seen him in a year or two.

So, a week or so ago my heat failed intermittently. The repair guy ended up replacing the controller for the boiler. He noticed that the legs on my oil tanks looked really scary. I told him that I tried the tell his company that 5 years ago and was brushed off. So, he took pictures, and they agreed to (finally) stop delivering oil. By the time they called me back to let me know that none of the cost of replacement was covered by my tank insurance policy, I had already obtained an appointment with the service company that is used by the company that installed the system 20 years ago. The installer is a good company, it is just that now they only do heat pump installs and refer all oil work to a good alternative company. While the original boiler repair guy was looking at the system, he also said that I needed to get the chimney inspected. Well, THAT company took pictures of my 20+ year old clay liner and showed me how it was falling apart. I actually thought the crap at the bottom of the old flue was left over from the days when this house burned coal. Nope. 20 years or more of decaying liner (which was already here when I replaced the original oil boiler, which is why I don't know how old it is). Now I have a nice metal one that goes from the top of the chimney directly down to the boiler. They said it was good for life.

Because of a problem they had last week, they didn't get to replace the oil tanks until today/yesterday. The paint they used to spruce up the tank after they were done with the installation stunk WAY more than the fuel oil, but is turning out to have a shorter duration.

Strange weather here in Florida even though it's not cold, we had the rare threat of a tornado...

I think the fires are all from Quebec right? I read there's about 150 different fires there right now?

Yes. They say they only have resources to handle about 40 of them. I hear there are crews from France and Australia come over to help. Or maybe that was Newfoundland.

The last 2 days in Ottawa, public health called for outdoor recreational activities to be halted. Today seems to be not too bad. The pictures I see of NYC look much worse than it ever was here.

Not sure how bad the air is in NY cities, but here in Ottawa it is pretty much back to normal. We had a bit of rain, and all is good now.

Yes, been here for over 40 years now - yikes!

As Vicky said, it is a lovely city. Parks, rivers, lots to see and do. And it has grown large enough that its no longer a sleep backwater like it used to.

Did a 5k jog for women's mental health on Sunday. And the Solstice Run coming up on 21 June. That one is always nice. Try to time the run so you cross the finish line just as the sun goes down.
