Charlee Chase
Cleo

Sunny sometimes but I don't think so...

Luckily the storm bypassed Tampa kind of last minute and went north -- we had some flooding and some dead fish but structurally sound :yeahbaby:
I am glad to hear that you escaped major damage! Charlee Chase and Cleo are in Florida in general, or in the path of the storm? Hopefully they are o.k. I thought Sunny lived there, given the number of videos Vicky did with her right about the time I joined. Maybe she was just visiting.

Cleo and Charlee are both Tampa... Sunny I think has family in another part of Florida and MIGHT have a place but I don't think she calls Florida home at present (but I could be wrong)

Glad to hear you are all safe and sound. Hopefully the flooding was generic Tampa and not your house.

Fish Fry at the Vette's this Friday, 7 P.M. Bring your fork, lol.
Nice idea, but I wouldn't trust something that just washed up.
But that is exactly what Cubans do. After a major storm, they go to the beaches to collect any fish that have washed up.

We had some 85° days with rain a couple weeks ago. We've got a couple more 100° days coming up. We've already broken the annual record for most 100° days in a summer. Something like 63 days.

Sure. As long as you don't let them lie there in the sun for a week, you should be good to go (to dinner, lol.) What's the difference between "washed up on shore" and hauled in with a net? You're still only hours away from a nice, warm belly. :lmao:

Now watch Erik say, "But I'm not a Cuban," :rotffl:

Cubans can't wait a week. That day's scavenging is the evening supper.

I guess I should have said I wouldn't trust something that "simply" washed up, since "just" washed up implies a short period of time. I don't know how long it has been floating around dead before it finally washed up. Caught on a line or hauled in with a net usually means alive and vigorous that you can see for yourself. I have been off of fish since college anyway, after having the bad luck of getting fish bones from several fish meals in a short period of time.

That's what scares me, bones. I've learned to dig through my fish pretty good before I eat it, lol.

Well, I think we're gonna break our 100° days record this week. We're only one day short of the record for most 100° days in a year, and we are forecast to get 6 this week, including today. So I think the old record is toast.

My ex-wife got a $3000 settlement from Costco because a fishbone from Kirkland's "boneless salmon" caught in her throat and required a trip to emergency.

Low 90's today. low 60's in the AM. We're finally done with the 100's for the year I think. 70 days for the year and 7 or 8 for September, both records.

Leaves are starting to turn colour.

Mornings and evenings are cooler and the days are noticeably shorter.

Birds are getting noisy and starting to head north.

Yes, north. They fly north in small flocks, then a few weeks later head south in large flocks.

Why do they fly north first?

Their End-of-Summer Enclave is in Minot, N.D. After that weekend, they all head south.

Minot ND is technically north of Ottawa. But the birds would actually be flying west to get there from here.

Why, does Minot ND get an infestation of birds at the end of summer?

I'd wondered about that, but never looked into it before. Apparently, there is something called a moult migration. They flight north to spots where there is a plentiful supply of food so they can huddle in numbers while their feathers moult before flying south. They can't fly while their feathers are moulting.

Most birds moult feathers one at a time, but waterfowl replace them all at once.

Warmest Oct. 2nd here since they've been keeping records.

And tomorrow is supposed to break a record too.
