That was great! Speaking of convenience, here is the same video using a newmedia tag instead of a url tag:

And, while the engineering must have been fun, a cheaper alternative is to just use the dorm fridge as an end table next to the couch. Then you can just reach down and get a beer out of it. Or, get a small camping fridge which opens from the top and put it next to the couch. Neither of those solutions has the coolness factor though, no pun intended.

Thanks, Erik. Yeah, I'm familiar with the "newmedia" tag. Our member AnthonyJK may have developed it. I know he talked about making something and did some work on it back before you joined us. Vicky would probably remember more. But it's no biggie. I've used it numerous times. This time, I used the "URL" tag for a reason.

Also, I love that MTV video. Some of the people who worked on that animation went on to work on a CGI kids adventure show called ReBOOT. It was a cool show about life inside an older computer called Mainframe, with various human and non-human inhabitants called Sprites. Bob, who is a Guardian from The Web, has come to live in Mainframe and protect it. He is forming a romantic relationship with Dot Matrix, a businesswoman who has several businesses in Mainframe. Most of the trouble comes from two viruses in the system: Megabyte and Hexadecimal. Anyway, for Dot's younger brother Enzo's birthday (he is about to age from 01 to 10), they interview local talent in order to put on a show. One of the failed auditions is a two-person band named The Dires that looks a little familiar:

That video has also apparently been parodied by other groups. I agree with the viewpoint of the first group, and I disagree with the viewpoint of the second group. I can't fault their sense of humor and technical capabilities, however.

Hello again,

Thought I'd pop a video in. This is one of my favourite scenes in an episode of the British Sci Fi Comedy series Red Dwarf from the early 1990s.

If you haven't seen it or don't know it: Mr Rimmer is a hologrammatic crew member of a group of 4 characters who gets abducted by a crew of other holograms in this episode. The main cast is 4 characters - a group of effectively space bums, all male, with no sex life, and Rimmer is generally disliked by is other crewmates. He's known in the show for having had only one brief sexual liaison with the ship's female boxing champion during his lifetime "12 minutes...and that includes the time it took to eat the pizza".... I like this scene...

Nice. I have seen clips of the show now and again, but never got to watch on a regular basis.

I just told Vicky during her show that Rod Stewart's song "Sailing" was the theme song for Beck's beer here and she told me to post a video of the ad.
Here it is:

So, it was "Sail away"... and it was Joe Cocker, but I was right about the beer :signhammer:

Well, you got the important part right! (The advertisers would be glad to hear about that).

Since all my references are to music videos and not commercials, I am replying over on the "All Other Music" thread on Page 40.

Vicky and Rokker probably have their portion in England all planned out for this trip, but I thought this was neat anyway. I appears on another YouTube channel I frequent about English narrowboating (which this particular video has nothing to do with).

While refreshing myself on English place names at my favorite educational-info-presented-in-Pythonesque-fashion YouTube website (https://www.youtube.com/c/JayForeman/videos), YouTube suggested a video by Bec Hill. I had seen her presentations before, but this one is so much fun that I thought I would post it here.

Sometimes I like to watch restoration videos. YouTube suggested a couple of interesting ones. I have forwarded the first one to when the restoration is complete. It is an English doorbell from the early 1900's. The restoration was a little boring, but the neat part is that it uses glass bells instead of metal ones.

I actually enjoyed the doorbell. I know what a capacitor is and how to check one. While at Thule Greenland on my first real world Air Force assignment, I was sent to our Air/Ground (A/G) Radio Receiver site to check out a receiver that wasn't working. This my first official check and repair "fix-it" assignment in the Air Force.

I drove to the site, pulled the receiver from the rack, opened the book and did some tests. I got to a suspicious capacitor, disconnected one lead and tested it just like this gent did here. It tested bad, so I pulled a new one from stock, wired it in and put the receiver back together. I put it back into the rack and notified the tower. They got a radio check at 200 miles and declared it fixed. Man, I was so proud of myself, lol. I guess that's obvious, since I still remember it so well, lol.

I have discovered wood-working videos on YT as well, from small stuff up to tree trunks. Found that interesting. People with talent really impress me.

It took me a second to remember "condenser" is English for "capacitor", but I also enjoyed the doorbell restoration. Not as much as a firetruck restoration I once watched, but the doorbell was o.k.

I am glad you had fun with your repair. I have never checked a capacitor. I was always a digit-head. Much more comfortable with programming and digital signals.

Haha, When I first hired on at TRW out on California, I walked into my assigned office. Three others were there. One said "Hardware or Software?" This was just after I had left Alaska, where everything in the system was still "hardware." I had barely even heard the phrase "software." I was so out of touch that I didn't even really know what "software" was. I knew that computers existed and all that, but that's just about it. I thought about asking what "software" meant but was sure that would reveal my abject stupidity. I thought for a few quick seconds and mumbled out "hardware?"

That was the right answer. Debbi brightened and said "YAY!!" The two guys were software, so we all ended up getting along fine.

I wish I would have, because I would be rich and famous. 🤪🤪🤣🤣

All smack aside, I do remember trying to develop a tag here for embedding new media....but that was when I was an active moderator here waaaaay back when. I do hope that it worked well.

Unfortunately, the "newmedia" tag is not embedding or parsing for me; it only shows a link to some phpBB forum board.

Although, I just did a search via Google, and found out that phpBB does now have a specific (media - /media) tag in their latest forum software update that would allow embedding of media from a whole host of websites.

Also, the tag that I developed was for embedding YT vids and Twitter tweets, not so much for other media.
