C'mon, Drew, you mean you're not looking forward to watch San Marino vs England? Not even just a little? Image

An unbelievable drama happend today. Our most important player, the man of glass, Arjen Robben, got injuried again! He had to be substituted early in the first half. To make things even worse, centre Martins Indi was sent off for punching his opponent. We were already having trouble finding a way to get through Iceland's defense and it ended up being a mission impossible with 10 players. Right back Van Der Wiel made a foul in the box, penalty for Iceland; 0-1. Yes, we actually lost to these Scandinavians, who lead group A with 18 points gathered in 7 matches. The Netherlands are now gonna focus on the play-off spot (3rd place). That's our last chance to qualify for the Euros and therefore we HAVE to defeat Turkey on Sunday.

Norway had an excellent night as their win over Bulgaria keeps them in 3rd place in group H with only 1 point behind Croatia. Wales look really strong in group B and they only need one more victory to reach Euro 2016. Will it happen on Sunday? Wales vs Israel. Gareth Bale?

1. Yes, we're doomed.....
2. That's what I learned in high school.... Image

It's funny that Guardiola barely gives Gotze any playing time, yet he's always the big man in the national team. His two goals were crucial in the win over Poland yesterday. A very important victory as the Germans are now top of group D again. You'd think they would go through easily, but Poland (2nd), Republic Of Ireland (3rd) and Scotland (4th) are only a few points behind. Meanwhile, Northern Ireland won at the Faroe Islands thanks to McAulay, so they remain #1 in group F and are now on the verge of qualification for their first European Championship ever.

England, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and Austria will be playing today.

I gotta give credit where it is due. Congratulations Steinar! This 2-0 victory over Croatia is an impressive result. I looked at the remaining fixtures and you'll play Malta next, which is totally doable, but you end the qualifying campaign away at Italy. Croatia face Bulgaria and travel to Malta on the last matchday. I fear Norway are gonna finish 3rd in the group, although that's still sufficient to reach the two-legged play-off, so I'm pretty optimistic about Norway's chances.

Dark clouds over the Netherlands team after an unacceptable and disastrous 3-0 loss. This time Turkey were way too strong and we are now on the brink of elimination. The entire country is in disarray. We have a defense that's incapable of keeping clean sheets, wrong tactics and players, a lack of concentration and we just can't finish chances as effectively as our opponents. It seems to be a case of Murphy's Law; everything that can possibly go wrong is in fact going wrong.

I've said from the start that it was a mistake to appoint Hiddink again. What's done is done, but someone is gonna get sacked if we actually miss out on the tournament. All media are seeking someone to blame for these aweful results. Maybe new manager Danny Blind is gonna be the first coach to get fired after only 4 matches later this year, lol. Today marks our heaviest defeat since 1996 against England. The last time we were not at a European Championship was in 1984!

Here's a great article about the post Van Gaal era: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/4961/int ... -price-for

Qualified for Euro 2016: France, Iceland, Czech Republic and England! Hodgson's men: 7 games, 21 points, 24 goals scored, 3 conceded. Title favorites?

I managed to stomach about 25 minutes of San Marino v England and missed the second half entirely lol. I just can't get myself into games like that. You know the result before hand and with all due respect to San Marino, there's zero glory to take away from a 6-0 victory. It's essentially 90 minutes of something that has to be done to get to the next game and I'd rather sink my 90 minutes into doing something else ;) Having said that, there was one bright point for me and that was Harry Kane's goal. It's not that he scored, but he way in which he so confidently took it. After his poor finish v Everton last weekend when one on one with Tim Howard and having failed to net at all this season, it showed great confidence in his own ability to chip the 'keeper like that. Again, it came at a point when the game was won and against poor opposition, but it gives me reassurance that he will not be a one season wonder.

Hodgson has said that he would rather use the remaining games to experiment rather than aim for 10 wins from 10, but with Rooney only managing the single goal v San Marino and thus being one short of the all time England record, I think there's every chance he will start vs Switzerland.

I can't get over the Netherlands Gert, it just doesn't seem possible for you guys not to qualify. I mean, you're the Netherlands! Would sacking Blind at this point (even if the worse were to happen) really be the answer? It seems fairly certain that a large proportion of blame falls at Hiddink's feet and that his reign was allowed to go on for too long. Is Blind too closely associated with Hiddink and his methods or is he paying for being given a squad low on morale?

Wales have been pretty big in the coverage over the past week (or should that be Bales?) as they aimed to nail down qualification to the Euros for the first time since 1958. They came up just short with a 1-0 win and 0-0 draw, but still have two more games left to clinch what would be a momentous achievement. It cannot be even remotely denied that this is 99% thanks to Gareth Bale - of the 9 goals Wales have scored, he as scored or assisted 8 of them and was once again the late match winner but nothing should be taken away from them when they qualify. However, were any proof needed that FIFA's world rankings have now become a complete joke, Wales are now ranked 9th in the world. England are laughably 10th - 1 place ahead of the even more ridiculously ranked Spain!

Wayne Rooney has finally scored his 50th goal and it was the only highlight of tonight's game against Switzerland, lol. Austria can book plane tickets and hotel after they embarrassed Sweden despite one Zlatan goal. Spain's B-team played some tiqui-taca in Macedonia, although the match never got really exciting due to poor opposition. Russia's 7-0 win over Liechtenstein shouldn't be taken serious either.

If we fail to qualify, it is going to be Dutch FA (KNVB) director Bert Van Oostveen's head that's gonna roll. He eliminated Van Marwijk after Euro 2012. Took a gamble with Van Gaal, who thankfully recognized the lack of quality and switched to a counter-attack strategy (5-3-2). Hiddink hates Van Gaal, so Guus thought he could just go back to 4-3-3 and play possession in the form of our world famous total football with players that are absolutely not good enough, lol. Danny Blind is a predator, a man with hidden agenda, the kind of person who will go talk sh*t behind people's back. He gives me the creeps. It has been 10 years since Danny Blind's last and only managerial job at Ajax, so he got the most wanted job in Dutch football based on what exactly?!?! #fail

Everything related to the Netherlands team is just a big disappointment at the moment. We have to win the last two games and then still keep fingers crossed for Turkey to drop points. The article I posted earlier hits the nail on the head. "The Dutch have no God-given right to be there and the only thing that has been clear throughout this campaign is that they do not deserve a place in France. The KNVB set Oranje down a terrible path at the start of 2014 and now they are paying the price. What’s more worrying is that it is hard to see how they can recover". The media smell blood; director Van Oostveen as well as manager Blind need to get sacked if we lose in October! Sigh, these international breaks have been torturous for the past year. :icon_sad:

Anyway, glad we can start focussing on the domestic leagues again. Man United vs Liverpool and Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona on Saturday! Image

Man United v Liverpool is undoubtedly the biggest game of the weekend over here, that's for sure. Not really sure how to predict the result - both teams have had decent records but actual performances have left a lot to be desired. It was interesting to see in Mad as a Hatter Louis Van Gaal's press conference yesterday that he admitted Rooney and Carrick (the club captains) had come to him to say the dressing room was flat. Whilst in reality there is probably very little - maybe they just wanted some music playing lol - but to comment on it just opens up the kind of awkward questions that annoys LVG so. Although maybe he just wanted an excuse to sing in front of a crowd!

If I were to make a prediction, I'd probably go 2-1 United. Home advantage and with Liverpool not looking great being my main reasoning.

Everton v Chelsea will be an interesting one with John Stones no doubt lining up against the club that coveted him so publicly during the summer. I think he's been very level headed throughout though and should put in another decent performance.

The game I'm possibly looking forward to the most is actually Crystal Palace v Man City. Palace should put up a hard fight and with City missing David Silva through injury, it might mean a debut for £59m signing Kevin De Bruyne, a player I'm very excited to see in the Premier League. Might we also see City's so far untouched goal finally breached?

Tomorrow should give Spurs fans the chance to see Son make his debut. I have really high hopes for him and with Kane putting in two lovely performances as a sub for England, hopefully his confidence will be boosted and can take advantage of what has been a dreadful Sunderland defence. So put your money on a Sunderland clean sheet!

Hope Gert and Rokkerr both have their fantasy teams sorted! The late injury to Silva slung a spanner into my plans as I had him as captain. I'm now relying heavily on the Swansea midfield to perform...

Okay, anyone who dares to say something about my extremely low score is gonna get slapped in the face, lol. How does one go from 51 to only 25?! Oh well, I guess it can't be 50+ points every week and nobody has ever won a fantasy league after 5 rounds. Plenty of time to catch up! Seeing Mahrez collect 11 points again makes me wonder why big clubs didn't anticipate and sign him late August, cause all these goals and assists aren't just luck. He's a really good player! Image

What looked like the biggest game of the weekend turned out to be the same old story of two teams lacking a real striker (MUFC) and offensive power (LFC). Man United played Fellaini up front, which has got to be the joke of the year, while Liverpool's Benteke had all the luck in the world scoring a fabulous goal similar to the one Rooney scored a couple years ago during a hostile encounter with Man City. Benteke found himself alone on an island for 90 minutes as the midfielders never offered any help. Martial's debut had me screaming "YEAH BABY!", lol... great performance considering his age, the pressure and the continuous talk about money. It looked like a goal Henry scored in his Arsenal days?

Leicester vs Aston Villa was my personal favorite game of the weekend. I honestly didn't expect them to do so well, but Ranieri's boys remain in second place! They have an impressive collection of creativity with Mahrez, Albrighton, Dyer, Vardy and Okazaki. Winning 3-2 after being 0-2 down shows what you can achieve with the right amount of willpower. A comeback thriller for sure! Sunderland vs Tottenham was the other Sunday fixture. Advocaat's side actually deserved the 3 points in my opinion. Defoe hit the post, Rodwell hit the bar, Lens was being a constant threat. And Spurs? Well, Kane did work hard, but he doesn't have "it" right now. Drew, what did you think of Son?

Chelsea got trashed, which is almost not newsworthy anymore. Thanks to Mourinho we know that even the computers failed during a tactical meeting, lol.... all kiddin aside, nobody concedes as many goals as Chelsea and it's somewhat of a disgrace to see the EPL champions put their title to shame like this. The Blues only lost three matches last season! I know Mourinho is trying to look all confident when the press confronts him with the situation, but nobody knows when owner Abramovich says enough is enough. I'm sure the man didn't invest millions in players and a contract extension for the manager just to watch them squirm in the relegation zone. I think next week's match against the Gunners is gonna be crucial. Hopefully Jose is gone soon, then Eva Carneiro can take her place on the bench again, lol.

Manchester City's Joe Hart has yet to concede. Tough away game indeed, though I never had any doubts that they would still pull it off in the end. What's the latest on all their injuries? What's your opinion about the fouls on both Aguero and Puncheon? There was no intention to play the ball. I think the referee should have given red cards instead.

Cristiano Ronaldo netted five on Saturday. He and Messi top the hattrick ranking with both 32 hattricks! Ronaldo has scored 230 goals in 203 league games. Image

My Champions League picks to reach the last 4: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG, Real Madrid.

I got over the weekend a chance to watch special on the rise of Bournmouth from nothing to the Premier League. Really pulling for them to stay up although they apparently played like shit yesterday...

I can sum up my thoughts on the Spurs and Leicester games with one comment: I wish Spurs played like Leicester. Screw the fact they were 2-0 down, the way they came back was awesome and what football is all about. Mahrez does indeed look amazing and I'm with you Gert, I'm surprised that there wasn't some last minute desperate bids (ironically from the likes of Tottenham) for his services as it's looking pretty obvious that this form isn't temporary. I remember seeing him a few times last season when Pearson used him a little more sparingly and as an impact sub, but whenever he came on, he always looked tricky and like he could create something by himself. Being let off the leash by Ranieri is now paying dividends and allowing Vardy and Okazaki to get into the right areas.

One thing to keep in mind though is that it's still very early in the season and Leicester must be aware of the great start they had last season too before the wheels came off. It's a similar story to West Ham who find themselves once again in 5th place, just as they did last season before plummeting to mid table.

Very unimpressed with Tottenham. Son in particular will need to quickly understand the pace of the Premier League. Too often he looked like he was running at 90% speed thinking that would be enough and his passes were also often underhit. Kane is starting to get worrying now. He looked fine playing for England but still looks like he is feeling the pressure of being the only striker left at Spurs. He must know that it's all on him as we literally have no one else thanks to Levy's balls up! I'm sure once he gets a couple, he will be fine, but in the meantime, he probably just needs some other players to grab a few goals and take the pressure off him. We desperately need Eriksen back and hopefully Njie to inject pace. One bright spark was the blossoming of Eric Dier in central midfield although with Mason picking up a worrying looking knee injury scoring the winning goal, we are scarily thin on the ground in that position now too.

I'm pretty sure that aside from the Chelsea fans, every other football fan is taking great delight in seeing Chelsea struggling so spectacularly! I think the two key factors in the current situation are both down to Mourinho. Firstly, he's allowed his team to get too old and not added enough youth. You can get away with it once you've got off to a great start and opposition teams fear playing you, but the Premier League is like a tank of sharks - a hint of blood and they attack. The second is, in my opinion, that Mourinho thought he could get away with playing that same dull, defensive football that he resorted to for the second half of last season. Chelsea don't look like they will take apart any teams right now and are still stuck in the 1-0 win mentality. Which again is fine if you've built up enough of an aura that teams are happy to play the same game, but at the early stage of the season teams are all wanting to get off to a flying start and have the energy levels to do so.

I'm sure they will turn it around sooner rather than later but 11 points behind already - is that too much to even think about still challenging for the title? Apparently the highest any team has managed to finish with the same number of points as Chelsea after 5 games is 3rd.

Congrats on winning this week Rokkerr! Inspired choice of Giroud as captain. I think this week has been quite low scoring for most people due to Aguero getting an early injury along with Silva being out and Swansea taking a 1-0 defeat to Watford. The Aguero injury is causing me some selection headaches as you never know with him just how long it will keep him out. He's not one for playing at 85%! But I think I'll hold firm for now at least until closer to the weekend before making any snap decision. I might concentrate on my defence this week...

The Champions League has rather snuck up on me lol. Man City v Juventus will probably be my game of choice tonight. You mentioned the injuries Gert. Aguero is definitely out, but Silva and Sterling are both available. Bony in attack is a completely different beast to Aguero and it certainly effected the way City played so I could maybe see De Bruyne get his start. I think City should win but it's gonna be a whole lot tougher without the little Argentinian.

What do you think to PSV v Man United tonight Gert? Depay back against his former club and possibly Martial getting a full debut?

The choice of Liverpool as Champions League semi finalists last season still embarrasses me lol, but I have a hunch that one of the Manchester clubs could get there this season. I think City are by far the stronger, but still have a nativity about them to maybe get into the final 4 (bar avoiding Barcelona until then) so I'm gonna stick my neck out and say Man Utd to join Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern. With Barcelona going on to keep hold of their crown.

Man City's start in the EPL is impressive, but the reason I don't see them reach the last 4 in the Champions League is because they always fail either due to being in the group of death or a tough draw in the knock out stage. Juventus' season start has been aweful, so it's quite comical to watch the Citizens lose yet again, lol. Sevilla are in Group D as well and should not be underestimated....

Man United were absolutely terrible tonight! It's a big problem if Rojo, Fellaini and Valencia are your best possible substitutes as manager of the Mancunians. To make things even worse, Luke Shaw left the pitch on a stretcher after suffering a horrific double leg fracture and was immediately transported to the hospital. He will be out for the rest of the season. It was kinda like the foul on Ben Arfa during Man City vs Newcastle in 2010; one that makes you wanna close your eyes or simply look away for a second. And PSV defender Moreno didn't even get booked! Anyway, fact is winning all 3 home games and picking up one point in any of the away matches is enough to advance to the next round. There's pressure on United's next CL match.

New Wolfsburg signing Julian Draxler stole the show in the other group B fixture. Atletico defeated Sneijder's Galatasaray in Turkey. Cristiano Ronaldo displayed his superiority at home to Shakhtar Donetsk by scoring 3 goals! No team has ever won the trophy two consecutive years, which is why I don't think Barca are gonna win it again. I'm gonna go with Real taking back the crown.

As for the fantasy league, I am gonna make changes in defense. Aguero needs to give me some value for my money! £13.0 and one goal....

gameweek6.jpg
The end of September is slowly approaching and two things stand out at the moment. First, the list of topscorers. Mahrez and Wilson are in the lead with both five goals followed by Gomis, Pelle, Vardy and Ighalo with four. No Rooney, Costa, Aguero, Giroud, Benteke, Kane. Second remarkable fact is Leicester's (#4) and West Ham's (#3) reign of success and productivity.

Chelsea vs Arsenal had Mike Dean stealing the show, lol. That man is officially the worst English referee. I personally think Mike Oliver would have done a far better job of extinguishing the fire between Costa and Gabriel. Did you see how Costa basically molested Koscielny?! C'mon, how can a referee and his linesmen not witness that incident?! I was super annoyed by the Spanish striker and almost had to throw up hearing Mourinho praise him in his post match interview as if Costa is the son of God or something. Arsene Wenger is a gentleman and he was spot on when suggesting the FA should evaluate the ref's decisions and look into a possible suspension regarding Costa. It's football, not rugby. The steam is still coming out of my ears.....

McClaren and Advocaat find themselves in trouble after another defeat. Tottenham, on the other hand, secure a home win and have Eriksen back! Bournemouth Ritchie's 2-0 against Sunderland will surely end up being among the nominees for goal of the season. Liverpool's multi-million signing Benteke had to be substituted again due to an injury. Leicester's Wes Morgan was at fault for Stoke's second goal, so even the incentive of pizzas for the whole team, if they would keep a clean sheet, didn't help and Leicester have now conceded 9 goals in total. West Ham look strong and solid with away victories at the Emirates, Anfield and Etihad Stadium. Their latest result was somewhat of a miracle as Man City had numerous chances to equalize. Still, 3 points in the pocket and the new signings are doing really well.

Speaking of new players, Anthony Martial has certainly outdone himself in the Dutch clash on Sunday between Koeman and Van Gaal. Southampton started off furiously with Mane's shot on target, which was initially saved by De Gea, but Pelle got the rebound. I wasn't pleased with Man United's performance in the first half. I thought they looked a bit insecure with many defensive errors. Rojo has yet to fit in the back four and Blind had a difficult afternoon battling an Italian opponent twice his size, lol. The Saints made some errors themselves in the second half. Yoshida's woeful backpass gave Martial the opportunity to quickly shoot the ball past Stekelenburg into the far corner. Martial's deadly finishing makes Man United's efficiency stats skyrocket. I'm thinking about putting him in my fantasy team...

Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Inter and Barcelona maintain perfect winning starts with the maximum amount of points.

You're not the only one, lol. I wanted to use my wildcard somewhere around gameweek 10, but decided to play that chip now. I can make unlimited free transfers until our next deadline on Saturday. Pretty optimistic about my 7 new players. Fingers crossed.

Before I move on to midweek fixtures and domestic cup matches, first things first. Arsenal's appeal against Gabriel's red card has been successful and striker Diego Costa got banned for the next 3 matches after video footage proved violent conduct regarding the incident with Koscielny. Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has decided to leave the club, though the FA is still looking into a complaint that Mourinho used sexist language towards her.

It remains to be seen whether Dick Advocaat will celebrate Christmas in England. Man City trashed Sunderland in the first 45 minutes and with a trip to Old Trafford lined up, we could see signs of crisis at Sunderland by the end of this weekend. #McClarenOut is slowly becoming as popular as #PardewOut. Newcastle lost at home to Sheffield W'Day and stats show Newcastle only got one shot on target. The entire world questioned the decision to sign Steve on a long-term deal and it looks like everyone was right, lol. Swansea lost to first division team Hull City, while Bournemouth needed a penalty shoot-out away at Preston North End to advance. Man United's Martial scored another goal and Brendan Rodgers' days as Liverpool manager are almost over after the Reds embarrassed themselves by having to go all the way to defeat League Two club Carlisle 3-2 on penalties.

History has been written and neither Messi nor Ronaldo have got anything to do with it. Robert Lewandowski scored 5 times in 9 unbelievable minutes for Bayern Munich! Wolfsburg were actually up 1-0 when Guardiola decided to make two changes during half time. The Polish striker had not made an impression yet this season, which is why he prolly started on the bench. Well, believe me when saying he was motivated. Goals in the 51st, 52nd, 55th, 57th and 60th minute made me witness something I have never seen before and I've been watching soccer for about 20 years now, lol. Phenomenal performance!

Shocking results elsewhere in Europe:
Celta 4-1 Barcelona
Las Palmas 2-0 Sevilla
Juventus 1-1 Frosinone

That awful moment I have Costa and forgot to change my lineups for the weekend.... FUCK....

... AND Joe Hart....

Are Chelsea that bad this year or are they just that bad? Honestly looking pretty mediocre.
As for the Newcastle manager... you haven't won a game in god knows how long and you are 1. Playing keep away at the end of the game?!?!? and 2. Acting like you won after giving up a 2 goal lead? They should have gone for goal instead of letting Chelsea barrage them in the final 20 minutes. They are lucky to have gotten a point. :wtf:

What happens when you have near enough unlimited funds and recently fielded the most expensive starting 11 ever seen in football, but then have Silva, Kompany, Hart and (mid way through the match) Yaya Toure injured? You lose 4-1 to Tottenham Hotspur, that's what! :cheerleader: Yes the officials were hopeless with three (including one for City's opener) eye-wateringly bad missed offside calls that led to goals and City were still probably the better side for most parts of the game, but it just goes to show that losing a number of key players effects even the strongest and richest of clubs. Spurs certainly played their part though and (again despite the linesman's errors) were brilliant in their workrate, effort and teamwork. My initial assessment of Son in his Sunderland debut that he needed to quickly realise the pace and speed of the Premier League seems to have taken him just that single game. Since then he's been brilliant and brought to Tottenham exactly what was missing with his constant running and hassling of opponents whilst also adding in classy touches and the kind of movement that stretches defences.

The return of Eriksen was also key with him always looking to release players into goalscoring opportunities - Son is certainly helping him there too. Lamela has also been a revelation these past few weeks. It's like a switch has been flicked in him and he's looking ultra confident and eager to work for the team. Finally, a big mention to our kids in midfield - Dier and Alli. Dier has gone from square peg in a round hole to looking like a piece of genius by Pochettino by placing him in defensive midfield. He bossed Yaya Toure to the point of submission and as demonstrated by his cracking goal, is not afraid to shoot! Meanwhile Alli has been a revelation, and is epitomising Pochettino's ethos with his youthful energy turning into runs and intelligence that belies his young age. Observers would easily be mistaken in thinking he has been playing not just at Spurs, but in the Premier League for many seasons and not just his current handful of games after jumping from League 1. I'm not one to get carried away easily - in fact I'm quite the cynic when it comes to hyping up young players - but I genuinely think we've got a real star on our hands here. Sure he could end up being Jermain Jenas rather than Frank Lampard, but so far the signs are mightily encouraging.

We almost had another shock result with Newcastle, but as Rokkerr points out, they really shot themselves in the foot by letting Chelsea claim a draw. The only positive for them is that they didn't lose, as they could so easily have done once Chelsea found some momentum. McClaren is an odd one, in that I think at a lot of other clubs, he would already be under pressure to be sacked. But history has shown that Mike Ashley is loath to pull the trigger on a manager until absolutely necessary so I think we will see Steve in position for a good while yet.

The manager most under pressure right now seems to be Brendan Rogers, although he is putting most of that pressure onto himself. By making comments about being under pressure and saying certain areas of the media are trying to get him out, it comes across as a sounding nervous and paranoid. And this quite often leads to managers losing the plot! A 3-2 win against Villa with Daniel Sturridge making a tremendous comeback (potential Fantasy Football target..? :icon_wink: ) helped ease the pressure, but right now the man most likely to get Brendan sacked is Brendan himself.

Man United are top of the league for the first time since Van Gaal took control. The signing of Martial is already looking like a great piece of expensive business and the current form of Mata is a welcome bonus to them. Can they remain at the top and become champions? I'm still saying no, but with City struggling with key injuries, Chelsea looking a shell of themselves and Arsenal likely to run out of steam as is now traditional, you certainly can't rule it out.

Swansea have hit a brick wall recently with goals drying up for Gomis and a defence suddenly looking very porous. Leicester continue to rain goals, although for once they couldn't make another comeback and suffered a potentially dangerous 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal. As entertaining the Foxes have been, Ranieri must sort out the defence sooner rather than later, otherwise the sparkling early season form could turn into another relegation battle before they realise it.
