I saw a story on the news today that 'London is Crawling' because the trucking companies are blocking all the streets and demonstrating against the price of diesel, about $9.85 a gallon, up about 50% in a year mostly because of taxes and duties.....

It's come down to this............Sex for Gas.
Police: Kentucky john paid prostitute with $100 fuel card
JULY 2--A Kentucky woman is facing prostitution charges for allegedly trading sex for gasoline. Angela Eversole, 34, was nabbed last weekend during a police stakeout at a Days Inn, where she allegedly trysted with customer Kenneth Nowak. According to court records, Nowak admitted paying for Eversole's services, in part, with a $100 Speedway gas card. Eversole was hit with a prostitution rap and also charged with doing business without an occupational license. Nowak was charged with promoting prostitution. Eversole and Nowak are pictured below in mug shots snapped following their June 27 arrests. A local prosecutor noted that it was sad to see someone selling their body for gas, in this case about 25 gallons worth.

LIFE IS GOOD!
I was reading the Business section this morning; "GAS PRICES HURT SALES," "GM MAY LOOK TO SHED AUTO BRANDS," "FINANCIAL COMPANY LOSSES AT $1 TRILLION," "AIRLINES PLAN TO LAY OFF 600 IN COLORADO," "STARBUCKS TO CLOSE 600 STORES," "CONCERN OVER FINANCIALS BRINGS DOWN STOCK MARKET."
Then, way back on page three, there it is, complete with a big picture: "BOURBON PRODUCERS SEE BOOM AHEAD."
"Distillers are expanding their bourbon production and storage and dispatching sales teams around the world, bullish for a traditionally Southern beverage gaining popularity worldwide. Surging exports, the weak U.S. dollar and rising popularity among younger Americans are driving the boom."
"Heaven Hill recently spent nearly $4 million boosting capacity 50% at it's distillery in Louisville." (Kentucky)
"Wild Turkey...sold more that 1 million cases worldwide last year.... It's $36 million expansion near Lawrenceburg will nearly double it's production."
"The distillery at Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey in Lynchburg, Tenn, (near Vicky, Rokkerr and Donor, and Laura, Jeb and Sue) is about to undergo a nearly $6 million addition to install 9 more fermenters."
"Jim Beam, the worlds biggest bourbon maker, is in the midst of a $70 million expansion in Kentucky."
Actually, all them places are near Vicky, Rokkerr and Donor, and Laura, Jeb and Sue. I think I know where our next members get-together needs to be teehee!
"Hell, Jim, I can't afford to drive or buy food, let's go get drunk!" YAHOOOOO!!!!!

Well, between the Trio and me, we could probably host a good sized group of you to go on a tour of the Jack Daniels distillary and Jim Beam, then savor the evening in the hot tub (sampling the wares, of course). Wouldn't that be a get together?
Come, friends, let us away.

Europeans it seems to me have always been paying more than we have in the US, I know when I was in Germany back in 76 the price was ridiculous to me a American who I think we are still way under a $1 a gallon back then, don't recall but I know when I was in high school gas was 30/40 cents a gallon.WalterB wrote:I don't remember the exact numbers, but when I was in Spain in the 70's, I'm pretty sure it was near $4/gal then. I remember multiplying it out and being astounded. I seem to remember that it was around $1.25/liter, whatever that converted to in Pesetas. Probably 90% of the cars on the road were small, 4 cyl stick shifts.
Rokkerr, you need to move to Tennessee. Gas is 369.9 around here.rokkerr wrote:Woo hoo.... gas is down to under $3.80 per gallon
Georgia representives screwed the Georgia people two years ago by changing the gas tax to a percent 8.5% instead of 8.5 cents per gallon. Now Georgia has the highest gas tax around.
Did I mention there is no state income tax and tags for the Vette would be $38.00
