I recognized it as a bowl cut. I did not know that they were coming back.

I did not think of a bowl cut when I first saw Twiki in the Buck Rogers film (which I think I saw in the theater). I wonder if they tried to use bowl cuts as justification to the producers, or if they just said "yeah, we're going with a penis-headed robot. It's almost the 80's, after all...."

Yes, I know that the haircut dates back to monks like Francis of Assisi (aka the guy the current pope took his name from) in the 13th century, but they probably just thought it looked funny and so did I.

Actually, while I was looking for example pictures, a bunch of search results were labeled something like "modern bowl cut". I guess I should have used some of those, too. There were enough of them to make me think that the style is actually coming back, vs. this band thinking they were fun to use.

This might be my all-time favorite Married With Children episode. I don't remember how but Kelly somehow got a Harley (A Sportster, I believe.). Al was worried about that. One night Kelly was out in the car, while Al stayed home and fantasized about taking off on the road.

Laura Cox is a great rock guitar player. She leads a great band and tours a lot in Europe. I believe she is French. Well, a recent video caught my attention, named "Going Down." Anyone wondering why the song attracted me? If so, you just don't know me. (It's not a dirty song, lol.)

I had an urge to listen to some digeridoo, and I found this on Odysee. The Odysee link was not recognized, but I found the equivalent video over on YouTube. Nice music, and a wholesome family vibe when the baby and the dog decide they want some attention towards the end.

Publishing the digeridoo video made me think of the alpine horn videos I had sometimes watched in the past. So, I went looking for them again, and YouTube suggested some videos that have been uploaded since I last looked. First, I looked for alpine horn, and among the results I recognized Melanie Oesch's name. I know her as a yodeler, but the thumbnail had a horn in it, so I gave it a shot. There are a variety of instruments, and it took a few minutes to get to Melanie, but it was worth it.

phpBB [media]

The same horn player has another, solo video. It doesn't really rock out, but I was very impressed at the tone control she has:

phpBB [media]

Anyway, since Melanie is so talented (and gorgeous), I ended up watching a couple of old favorites, plus portions of a new gig they did during Covid:

One of the earliest Melanie Oesch videos I think I ever saw, if not the first:

phpBB [media]

And another from the same timeframe (of my looking - they were apparently posted 3 years apart). There definitely aren't any martians getting out of that theater alive!

phpBB [media]

And, during Covid, they did this:

phpBB [media]

I originally found out about Melanie while searching for yodeling after seeing this kid. The judges weren't expecting much at first, and she took them (and me) by surprise:

phpBB [media]

Why was I looking for yodeling? Probably to find this, and the thumbnail made me want to also try looking for alpine horns, even though I don't think we hear any in this particular song. Old-time game show watchers will probably recognize it:

phpBB [media]

Also, the guy in the video looks like John Cleese to me. I wonder what kind of sketch the Monty Python folks could make from that.

If the game show wasn't what made me look for yodeling, it was probably this bit from one of the funniest science fiction spoofs I have ever seen:

The only Melanie i know is Melanie Safka. . She had a couple of popular songs, in the late '60's. I believe. The one I liked was full of sexual inuendo about a young girl apparently not only discovering her own sexuality, but realizing that the boys in her school had a solution for that (no pun intended, lol.)

Intended or not, it was a nice pun!

Yeah, I am a Melanie fan as well. I have a "Greatest Hits" CD. I got some chocolate on the case while in the car, and put the CD in with another set "temporarily". Right now my Melanie CD is shacking up with some other, forgotten group. I am not certain where the case went.

Another song I like is "Ring The Living Bell".

I just found out at Vicky's show that we lost Christine McVie (whom I kept calling Christie). Bummer. Here is one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac videos.
The video has interesting "eye" work, with Mick FLeetwood bugging his out for the camera. Christine's seem to be lit in a glowing way that reminds me a little of Uncle Deadly from The Muppet Show. I think it's worth hitting the "Watch on YouTube" button to see it in a slightly larger format.

Christine McVie was maybe not unique, but had a wonderfully beautiful voice and was obviously a big part of Fleetwood Mac. She will be missed by many.

You know me, you just can't beat some good boogie Woogie. Enjoy. The lady's good.

Well, this is a long way off, but probably the biggest rock concert ever seems to be headed to El Paso next August. They're announcing that :rokkerr: Motley Crue :johndrum: and Def Leppard :musik15: along with special guest Alice Cooper :drummer: will be appearing here at the Sun Bowl (our local college football stadium) next August 18th.

Hey, :vickyvette: ! DEF LEPPARD! Wanna come pour some sugar on me? Heeheehee. When can I expect you to arrive for our date? :rotffl:

There have been some good performers come to El Paso in the past. The biggest I saw was The Beach Boys, which was really just 2 Beach boys and 3 other guys, lol. But they did the songs right, so it was good.

OK, nothing to do with Christmas, just some song I like.

Do you recognise it? It's a little more famous than just being a good overture. The entire overture is about 12 minutes long. I can even recognize parts that were used in Bugs Bunny cartoons, lol. But this finale is my, and many folks, favorite part. (2 minutes.) Do you recognize it? Many's the day this 12-year-old kid sat on his living room floor at 4:30, my voice echoing throughout the house -- "HiYo Silver ---- AWAYYYYYYY!" Still watching reruns today, but I keep the yelling to myself, lol.

I played a trumpet in high school. I don't think we ever played this one. But I sure did. I would practise in my room for about an hour 3 or 4 days a week. Got pretty good at it. It just makes me feel good. On a trumpet, you have to do something called "triple-tonguing." It was necessary to be able to recreate the tat-tat-tat of the intro.

This is the theme from 1949. Opening and closing. Clayton Moore was The Lone Ranger and Jay Silverheels was his faithful sidekick, Tonto.

A fellow named Jay Thomas used to tell a story about The Lone Ranger every year on David Letterman's show. I thought it was hilarious.

Hey Walt! I played trumpet in high school as well. I never got good enough to triple-tongue, nor did I even knew what it was. We never did anything as ambitious as The William Tell Overture, either. I do remember watching the Lone Ranger on TV, but I like the Looney Tunes better. I have always loved this bit from "Hare Trigger" (although the whole cartoon is a gem):

phpBB [media]

While Yosemite Sam is praising Bugs' drawing, we get a callback to the song Bugs was singing earlier in the mail car:

phpBB [media]

While trying to find this song, I first ran across "Granma's Wooden Leg", and figured that maybe the folks at Warner Brothers were just playing with the lyrics, since the lyrics to "Grandma's Wooden Leg" actually make sense:

phpBB [media]

However, Bugs is actually singing "Go Get The Ax":

phpBB [media]

Other than a possible Lizzie Borden reference, I don't quite get it.

As a kid Glen Campbell was so blown away hearing the William Tell Overture that he taught himself to play it on guitar.

Just one of the reasons he is such an amazing guitarist

I'm sure I've posted this before. But this is what gets my blood flowing, get's my heart pumping, gets me to boogying right here in my chair, lol. First the original, followed by one of numerous great covers.
Chuck Berry was one of the pioneers of Rock and roll, along with Elvis, Jerry Lee, Richard Penniman (Little Richard,) Danny and the Juniors (Rock and Roll is Here to Stay,) Buddy Holly, so many great performers. Remember, America was not too far gone from WWII. So this was all new. It had it's roots in the blues of the '30's and '40's. It graduated into bebop and developed into full on Rock and Roll, thanks to all of these wonderful performers.

And, yes, it has been proven. While so many other dance crazes have come and gone, Rock and Roll has proved that, truely, Rock and Roll is here to stay.

All good stuff, Walt! A certain movie came to mind as soon as I heard the last one, and I went looking for video clips. Most focus on the sad ending, but this one had a more upbeat take. Unfortunately, at the end they fade out the good song and do some weird audio glitch thing. Still, a fun reminder of a good movie. I do notice an inconsistency in the use of the high-beams, though. They are clearly on during the initial reconstruction, but not during fun-time number 1 and the end of fun-time number 2. I can't tell if they are on or off during the initial fiery glamour shot. I almost don't get tired of watching for stuff like that, though, because of the fantastic music! This is probably going to be an ear-worm for a little while.

And if you just want to admire a related car (1958 Plymouth Fury above, 1959 Plymouth Station Wagon below, at least according to Wikipedia and the graphic, respectively) while listening to the song:
