Hospitals are stepping up. You may have heard that hospitals in California and New York City are requiring all employees to be vaccinated or they won't get paid. And the VA is the first Federal organization to require all employees to get the vaccine or not get paid.

It is time to step up and do what is needed for the common good. I'm pretty sick of all this talk about people's "rights." Yes, we have certain 'inalienable rights.' But, when, in the face of a national disaster, do the rights of a non-conformist override the rights of the community for the common good? I am quite certain that it has been shown that the vaccines work for the protection of everyone.

The government has the job of protecting the public. When it get's this serious, I don't care what you think ('you' meaning those who refuse to step up.) I am fully behind requiring a mask if you are not vaccinated and showing your card to prove you have been vaccinated. And that includes bars, employers, all public places where people must mingle in close quarters. I have a plastic badge holder. I put my vaccine card in that and wear it around my neck inside my shirt when I go out. I carry my masks and my hand sanitizer in my car. So PLEASE tell me how that is so difficult to do. PLEASE tell me how that is infringing on your rights. Because I think my rights to safety override your rights to be a fool. (Sorry, Son. I love you dearly, but that's my opinion. And, yes, I've told him that.)

If you don't want to get the shot, that is your right. But it is MY right to be protected from folks like you who refuse to step up and get protected. That over 90% of the people currently dying from covid are unvaccinated seems to me to be all the proof that anyone should need. And, that includes my son, who also refuses to get the shot.

What really hurts is when those who are sworn to protect us are in fact killing us. When do individual rights overpower the rights of the common good?

This is going from bad to worse, even though she is really sick, there are more people even sicker than her and they want her bed. So they want to send her home.

The problem is her retirement facility will not let her in if she has covid. The rehab that she was in before she went to the hospital will not take her back either if she has covid.

She is so sick with her COPD, pneumonia and covid that she requires 24 hour nursing care. Someone has to bathe her and feed her and take her vitals and give her meds and oxygen all day long. If we were to bring her to our house, hospice refuses to come here to help as long as she has covid.

What a situation.

Tell them that they made her sick and she isn't going anywhere until they get her well. If they argue, get a lawyer involved.

Desantis passed a law that you cannot sue a hospital for giving you covid. He also passed a bill that as a business owner you cannot ask for proof of vaccine and you have to let everyone come into your establishment to eat or drink whether they are vaccinated or not. (to protect their "rights".) He is still fighting in the courts because the cruise ships want to require proof of vaccine before getting on the ships and he doesn't want them to be allowed to ask for that.

I did not realize Dave's mum was so ill. I hope she soon recovers. If she's fully vaccinated, she should get over the Covid. But that would still mean weeks before she can go anywhere else. I wonder if there are private nurses that will come home to care for Covid patients?

The whole thing about not requiring people to be vaccinated is a joke (IMHO). Kids have to prove all kinds of vaccinations before joining a school. The problem is that the covid vaccinations are still under "emergency use authorization" and not fully approved, so they can't be mandated.

But there all kinds of restrictions governments place on citizens in an emergency. Given the number of people that have died from covid, why can't it be an emergency?

I've read all that, Vicky, and can only shake my head. How did someone so ignorant get elected to public office? He must have graduated from the School of Ignorance. Their motto is "You CAN fool all of the people all of the time."

Lance, you are right as well. It's insane. There are ways available to fight this. I don't understand why the governments, both local and Federal, cannot step up and handle this. As long as there are ignorant people in power, this will continue. Right now, every time someone steps up and says, I ain't doing it, the powers that be (who we elected to protect us) bow down, kiss their asses and say, "Oh, I'm sorry, we won't do that, then."

My thoughts with Dave's mom as she is in the hospital fighting not only this virus but of course what she originally was taken in there for.

I agree, you cannot force people to do anything - and some people have actual medical reasons why they can't get the vaccination I know (although that is a small percentile). Working in retail and observing the attitudes of the "general public", at least here in England, all I can say is that now that all the restrictions are lifted and can't really be enforced - it's become a matter of respect for everyone around you. But then I can't stand there behind the counter (where I am still wearing a mask and behind a screen) and say to them "Just please be respectful of everyone in here - it's not about you, it's about them!" From day one I've conducted myself with the frame of mind that I have it and don't want to pass it on, rather than a fear of catching it. If that makes sense!

The virus still scares me and I will continue to wear my mask even though I got the vaccine. I still remember not being able to breathe right with asthma and I mean bad! I also realize we are not going end this until more people get the vaccination.

Well they tried to release her, and he really kicked up a stink!! I don't think any of you have ever seen Rokkerr when he's really mad lol but it can be scary...... I think he intimidated the doctor and everyone else and now they changed the instructions to "release upon 2 negative covid tests". So this way she can go back to rehab when she makes it through covid! This old English woman is crazy tough! We cannot visit but we dropped off dunkin donuts krullers for her today. Her favorite to make her smile!

French Crullers? I LOVE those. Rokkerr's mom and I would get along just fine, lol.

The first job I got after the Air Force was in Denver at the Oxford hotel as a bellman. There was a restaurant attached to the hotel. In the mornings, if I wanted I could go into the restaurant before they opened, and the cook would give me one of his Crullers and coffee. I mean these sunzabitches were BIG! They were about 8-10" across and about 3" thick. One of those fresh and warm out of the oven, icing fresh applied, I would be in food heaven for days, lol.

I now I wouldn't want to run into Rokkerr in a dark alley, lol. I have no doubt he could make people see the error of their ways. Great news!

French crullers? Tim Horton's - big doughnut chain in Canada - used to carry those. Now they have Honey crullers. Same product, different label. I've never understood why they needed to be rebranded.

Good on rokkerr for standing up for his mom! It is a very difficult thing to do, especially in a hospital setting where they want you to think they are always doing what's best for the patients (what they ACTUALLY do is what's best for their bottom line).

Keeping good thoughts for Rokkers mom. The 2 major hospitals here still are not requiring staff to be vaccinated. It is ridiculous. In NC even though rates are skyrocketing again the state mask mandates expire Friday and wont be renewed. Since so many sheriffs and police depts around the state have said they wont enforce them or cite people for violating them whats the point. If you dont punish the violators there is nothing to force the idiots to follow the mandates. I recently read that the legislatures in several states have voted to refund the fines that businesses had to pay for violating covid restrictions.
