Why doesn't anyone ever want to come to Iowa? lol We have 4 seasons and the country is beautiful---not all corn fields. I can't imagine what real maple syrup would taste like GeorgeB. Yummy!

Our house is 6 feet above sea level, and the first floor is 6 feet off the ground, lol... we have brought all the outside furniture inside so it doesn't turn into missiles that crash through the windows. We are not sure what to do? It's hard to tell where the storm will go. We know it will decimate Key West and Miami, (Angelina, Sara, Cristi Ann, Kimber) but then will it go up the east coast? (maggie, victoria) Up the west coast? (us, Nina, Cleo, Carmen) Straight up the middle? Would be a bummer to go to central Florida and then it hits there? Or just be sitting on the highway in a gridlock. Or be checking into a motel6 with 3 dogs and being ripped off at $300 night because the fuckers take advantage of a storm. On the other hand if the power goes off here, we will be sitting here sweating our nuts off in heat and humidity, with no electricity, no internet to work, and no water to flush the toilets or wash. It just sucks every which way! Don't know what to do! Just watching the news intently trying to figure it out! Dogs are not allowed at shelters. If it gets super bad here we could load up the car with provisions and the dogs and go find a big concrete parking stucture and wait it out there?

If it looks like it is headed toward you, like I said, I would consider heading north. You could wait until a day or two ahead. But, remember, the roads will get clogged rather quickly. So maybe look around for a nice concrete structure now.

If the storm comes up central Fla, it will weaken into wind and rain, probably nothing overpowering - a few toppled trees, maybe some roofs lost, etc. Watch the category they're rating it at. Right now it's a 5, they expect it to downgrade to a 4 before it get to Fla. If it stays over water, it will stay stronger. If it comes up the East coast, you won't have a lot to worry about, (the East coast ladies, maybe so.) If it comes up the West coast, you might want to head East or North. Hard call. I know you can use your phone for a hotspot. Maybe not the best but better than nothing.

I would use Google Earth or your fav map to lay out a couple route now. helpful hint: Freeways will get clogged. Consider a secondary route thru small towns toward the inland. People will be heading toward the freeways, and the freeways will be clogged worse than LA at rush hour.

The spaghetti models have changed already, looking like east coast, like a cat 3 over Maggie's house, lol... or maybe it will veer to sea and not even hit florida. We will still get storms but not nearly as bad as it could be.

I'd rather be prepared than not..weather is the most destructive force on earth and not to be taken lightly. The Virgin Islands are taking it in the teeth right now, along with a bunch of others in the path. If all you have to do when this is over is to take back out all the furniture, you are going to be very lucky.

Hopefully the East Coast gang will all be safe. Between this one and Harvey (who names something Harvey?) the USA is in for another Mother Nature butt-whuppin'

Cheers to all out friends...be safe

I have no advice when it comes to hurricanes! All I have to deal with is tornadoes. They have high winds of course and flatten everything in its path but at least we can go underground and not drown! Just keep watching what the experts say and keep safe. I didn't know you had 3 dogs

I just checked the weather channel and they still are uncertain which coast will be hit the hardest but that it will cover the whole state of Florida in some way or another. It still will be a cat. 4 hurricane. I would head north!

Henna is a wise woman! Florida may be nice to live 99% of the time, but when the wind blows you guys may be in trouble.
Be safe ALL of you!

Looks like some of our Florida friends have been given the order to evacuate and head to higher ground. Take a moment today to think about our friends and pass some good karma their way. We are thinking about you.

Update: Vicky and Rokkerr are on the road headed to Alabama. The storm continues to look like it's veering toward the west side of the state, so they decided to bug out. Safe travels, y'all.

Considering what has been evolving, that was a sane and wise decision.
