I just saw the Tampa Bay video...apparently a phenomenon very common to hurricanes approaching and in the direction that it is rotating counter clockwise relative to Tampa. It's so strange to see the sea sucked off shore like it is...its hard for the brain to wrap around. Almost like the preverbal calm before the storm...when the eye crosses Tampa it's coming back 10 fold.

That's true. Those people who don't evacuate don't only endanger themselves, they endanger others who don't deserve that. Then, when they get swamped, they expect others to come save them.

The day we left the police drove through our neighborhood twice with a megaphone saying if u don't leave, you are on your own. We will not come rescue you. I also received 3 phone calls from the city on my land line and 2 calls to my cell phone. (All recordings telling us to leave). Its not like they don't try really hard to warn you!

Good news they just downgraded it again! Its a 3 now and could be a 2 by the time it reaches us. If it stays over land its a good thing cause it loses strength. If it stays over water will be worse, then it will be stronger and we will get the "dirty side" of the storm which is the nastiest.

Looks like the east coast is somewhat out of the woods. The couple staying in the room next to us with their cat were checking out and going home to st.Augustine. Maggie had a tree fall on her house but not much damage.

Low tide plus offshore windflow from Irma. Once she goes past and the winds switch to onshore, it will be a much different story.

There are tornadoes everywhere now.... This is the universes way of reminding us how small and insignificant we truly are... And teaching us not to care about material things as the ocean swallows it all up.... My heart goes out to everyone in south Florida right now. They are being pummeled right now.

Angelina said she didn't have any electricity, but didn't mention any other problems. I guess she wouldn't mention it if they were floating in the attic. I'm just hoping we don't see any of our friends dangling from a rope hanging from a helicopter.

What weather channel are you and Walt watching? Mine says western side is going to have 6'-10' surges, up to a foot of rain and 75 to 100 mph winds. Doesn't make any difference I guess as long as everyone is safe. That is to bad about Maggie's new house and I don't think it is done. Stay safe Vicky and Rokkerr and everyone else!

To me, weather forecasting is an inexact science, at best, Hennar. They generally get it close, but can't usually get it right until it's right on top of you. Different weathermen will give you different information. You have to watch several reports and take the average, lol

Sure sucks for everyone else. But even the pounding that the keys, miami and south Florida took we still fared better than the Caribbean islands. 2.3 million without power but no lives lost. Angelina sent me pic of her backyard its surprisingly not that bad. Miami downtown is under water but could hv been worse.

Its not getting to Tampa till midnight give or take....in a weakened state.... Don't know about storm surge though? The waterfront downtown st.Pete has no water so u can walk to islands.... You can walk from old northeast to Snell island. What happens when it all comes back?

It has looked awful on TV over here. Just hope ALL of you over there stay safe and don't have too much damage to your houses etc.

Wow! We really dodged a bullet! The power went off at my house overnight (my security camera down that's how I know) plus my neighbors.... it could have been so much worse. What a roller coaster of emotions, yesterday we woke up to headlines "Irma takes aim at St.Pete! Cat 4!" Makes you really take inventory of your life and think about things.



There are manatees stranded on the beaches, the water was sucked out so fast... and didn't come back? they are so big and heavy to move, so volunteers are pouring water on them...

From what I understand all of our friends in Florida came out unscathed after this weekend's devastation. Many many more people were not so lucky and we wish them the best to get back on their feet as quickly as possible.

Apparently only Maggie sustained any damage when she lost a tree.

I'm glad that as many people got out of harm's way. It's hard to pick up and go, not knowing what you are coming home to, but at least you come home. That's a pretty good thing if you ask me

OMG! Dave just spoke to a neighbor, the power never even went out! Just the internet did! So when my security cam went out, i thought the power was out, but it wasn't! Yay! No spoiled food in the fridge! It must be the horseshoe up my ass! lol... All that stressing and worrying...... now we just have an 8 hour drive home (as soon as the internet is back). We'll work from here, the world needs it's VNA porn!

It is so ironic that no one lost their lives in Florida from the wind and water but 2 people have died in Georgia from falling trees. I cannot even imagine the devastation to the people on the islands! Thankfully it is over and people can return home. May all be well!
