As of yesterday, I'm allowed to go for 10 min walks outside. No incline or steps (yeah right, can't get anywhere in my house without steps), I can do it as many times as I want in a day but never more than 10 min at a time, and just small steps, NO BIG STEPS. I still can't bend over. It's hilarious watching me try to pick something up when I drop it. I use a chair and get in a pushup position, and do like a renegade row to pick it up. Hey it works!

You did a great Job Vicky, first blowing up the bandages off your skin. Hot tub is an wonderful option for accelerated healing. Just make sure your skin is healed(which is quicker with quantified supplements suggested by the doctor).
As a Man, for myself I would have preferred a bit of physiotherapy too after physical healing of skin, so it can help me get back to go do some aerobics until I would feel easy to run around with average flexibility, following with gym sooner after a week to lift lil weights for a week and then adding up slowly to my full capacity but not directly jumping on heavy weights lol This should take up to a month to get back to better health.
In parallel, the body requires ample of rest and sleep in parallel to keep up with its progress till recovery.
Body has the apt ability to get adjusted to healing with rest during the phase of recovery. Of Corse you gonna get better soon Vicky.

You so love to move around Vicky:) We all wish everything happens much sooner!
Healing is worth it! How about reward yourself with something for getting back on toes? like enjoy life safely twice as much as you usually do after a lil count down.

Hugs and healing thoughts, Vicky! Please take it easy while your body is healing. Your workaholic nature should now be focused on letting your body heal for a while, don't let it work against your healing.

When you head to LA, don't be shy about asking the airline for wheelchair assistance in the airport. My buddy is younger than you, 6'4" (193 cm), 275 pounds (125 kg) and used to work as a bouncer. He is currently in the process of seeing if his body is healthy enough for hip replacement surgery. Several years ago, after his first open heart surgery, he started asking for wheelchair service in airports. He said he felt like a heel because he was bigger and stronger than the people assisting him, but there was no denying how much better he felt after not trying to tough it out through two airports. He could actually enjoy the events he flew in for instead of spending the entire weekend recovering from walking through the airports.
Next year you can run or dance through the airports, but for this trip please be kind to your body and let it heal. Don't let your pride or stubbornness or unwillingness to ask for help hurt you further.
Please call the airline today and let them know that you recently had a procedure done on your knee/leg and, for this round trip only, you need wheelchair assistance through the airports.

I took a wheelchair once. Didn't want to. I'm fairly independent. But didn't want to walk through the airport because my knees were just not working. It might have been the Tampa airport, too, which is about the biggest I've been to. There's one escalator that goes up 3 maybe 4 flights in one stretch. Sucker's about 1/2 mile long, lol. Going up, you're sure you're going to heaven. But coming down? (Wait! Is that FIRE I see down there?) lol.
I felt bad taking a wheelchair. Just don't want to look helpless, I guess. Wanted to walk. Had to sit at the gate for a while. But I made it. They let me on first, too, lol.
You, on the other hand, can wear shorts and wrap them hot gams up good and everyone will fall over themselves to help you, lol. Maybe sprinkle a little ketchup on the bandages,

It feels reassuring to see that you Vicky consent to Davests excellent (and important) suggestion - keep the workaholic self-made women at bay !
We need you in best possible shape back from LA (and best possible state for your further healing).

Well I did feel really weird sitting in the wheelchair, I never realized that people treat you differently just because you're in a wheelchair. For example the lady at the TSA who checks the boarding pass and driver's license, spoke to me really loud and slow and almost childlike?
In retrospect especially at LAX, I'm so glad I did it, the distances were vast, and a lot of the walking was uphill. I really did feel bad for the little girl who was pushing me in the wheelchair! We gave nice tips!
I have to say the service was A plus. As soon as you leave the check-in booth, you get your chair. They wheeled us up to the tram area. There was a massive line to go through to get onto the tram that brings you to departures, but he brought us right to the front, priority treatment and went straight through, then when we got to TSA the same thing, they were lined up down the hall and around the corner yet we went right to the front of the line! Amazing! Sure made it easy!

It's not easy to accept things like that for me. Like I said before, I got a chair once. And, yes, it was good. And, yes, I felt badly, almost helpless, lol. I'm just so independent, I hate asking for help with something so picayune as walking. But it looks like I'm getting to that point. Not sure I'll ever fly again. but, if I do, I'll probably ask for a chair.
I can resist everything except temptation.
Thank you Vicky for doing the difficult thing. If we don't travel often, we tend to forget how huge airports are and how much walking is required, especially when we add carry-on bags. I'm sure your leg/knee appreciates it, especially if you will be spending large amounts of time standing this weekend. Hope convention goes well for you and rokkerr. The good news is that this trip is the last time you should need this kind of assistance for a few decades.

Wow reading this now I think I need to get checked out. I have knots in my lower back above the glutes that cause pain and sciatica all down my left leg. My Dr just gave me muscle relaxers that do nothing. I use a massage gun and that loosens the knot up but only temporary relief. My left leg, knee and calf are always in pain. Right side has it but not as bad.
Glad I caught up on this thread.
Hope you have a smooth recovery Vicky.

10 miles - you're really doing distance runs. I stick to about 5k/run, with 8k on Saturdays, which is still only half your 10 miles.rokkerr wrote: ↑February 5th, 2024, 6:24 pm https://www.everydayhealth.com/depressi ... pressants/

Keep it up, it works wonders for high blood pressure and diabetes.

Strangely my blood pressure is not great despite all the running.... might need to get on medication since there's no excuse...lance_s wrote: ↑February 6th, 2024, 7:27 am10 miles - you're really doing distance runs.
