Ok say they just finish a competition they will bulk. If they are 275lbs they will be probably 300+ in a week. They do not do any cardio basically at all they just lift heavy weights. Once they get to about 12 weeks out for their next competition thats when they start cuttin portions and eating healthier. A long with this the start doing a lot of cardio but they don't run on treadmills they walk because if your heartrate is at a certain % you tend to burn more fat.

You would be most benefitted in listening to Julie. Your workout needs to include resistance weight lifting as well as protein supplementation, but without the cardio you're looking at the short term as opposed to the long term. Yes, you may lose in the next year, but given two years with proper weight training and cardio you're going to be in the lead. Follow Julie's advice. You'll be at the top of your game for more years than Schwarzenegger if you follow it strictly. We're all behind you.

Julie's right Stiffy, you should listen to her, the long run is what's more important... anyway I went to the gym tonight and did a half assed workout... was really tired..... must have been all the cumming yesterday.. lol.. we are going home tomorrow, but I'm gonna run 3 miles on these hills first thing in the morning before we head out. I'm so excited! I ordered the garmin gps with heart rate monitor from Amazon and it should be here tomorrow. I got the 305 - last years model, it was half the price, and just as good I believe, the newer one is just smaller. HRL has the newer one, it's just like a wristwatch, but I'm not crazy about the bezel, seems really complicated to me... this is the one I got: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=349 but it was only $190 at Amazon.

Yesterday I jogged 500m it's the first time I've done that since August. It took me so long I had to stop I'm keeping my heart down for my own reasons. Hell I did it though it took me 9 minutes

I don't think it's possible to jog 500m in 9 minutes, hell even walking 500m slow wouldn't take that long lol

My workout is my cardio, and I'll do "cardio" on a treadmill when I want to lose weight (which won't happen for a long time haha).

accidentaltribe why not add some weights instead of just pure cardio. So you're losing fat and gaining muscle rather than just losing fat.

Can't say enough about the cardio. But then, I've only been to medical school and been in practice for 22 years. I can't wait until I've had the experience and knowledge of a twenty-year old. Maybe next year. :lmao: :lmao:

I'm lost, lol... how much is 500m in miles? Let's see 1000m = 1 km right? so 1 km = .6 of a mile?

Anyway it doesn't matter- that was very mean Stiffy. Julie has been sick, she was hospitalized - that was unthinking - uncaring - and inconsiderate! Don't you ever ever make fun of a sick person ever again! Not here on my site. You should be ashamed of yourself. It's wonderful that she is out there doing it again and you should be complimenting her and encouraging her. Not making fun of her. You owe Julie an apology.

I never said cardio was bad. When you are trying to gain weight/muscle you don't do a lot of cardio.

How would you feel if you had a heart attack, were hospitalized for weeks, and when you were finally well enough to try to run again someone says that in response to your efforts?

The reason it took me so long when my heart rate got to 135 I stopped and streached just to lower it back down. I know it took me forever, but I listened to some great advice and I'm just going to go for some really brisk walks with the dogs. :happydog: :doggie:

I'm a little tuffie so lets not worry about it :catfight:

Julie is being a lady about it. That was a very insensitive comment. Gee I wonder why you don't have a girlfriend?

Hey Julie, I ran yesterday 3 miles on hills, think my butt is getting rounder from it, lol... today I got my garmin forerunner, I'm so excited, for the first time I can check my heart rate while I'm running. I tried it today, just did 2 miles. So what should my goal be? I noticed it was up to 183 near the top of the hills today? Is that bad? I need to read up on it, but since you are our local resident expert, figured you could give some advice.

That's really good that would put you in the 85% to Max for your heart rate. Everyone is differant though and you know how you felt doing it. I would ask Kman he's 100 times smarter then I'll ever be. Just looking at you and knowing how you do work out a lot your fine. Something I go by is when your at a high heart rate like that can you have a normal conversation without gasping for air? Again kman is still your best advice! Am I sucking up to him lol. :kissass:

Vicky one day you and I will go jogging but for me that's a ways off right now you would have to pull me in a wagon course I wouldn't mind sitting there watching you work your ass mmmm :shake-that-ass:

A few years ago when I regularly went to the gym there was a chart which related heart rate to age.I forget the details but 183 seems high.
