The funeral was yesterday, I was at his farm with his kids and we groomed the horses (Clydesdales) and took them and the wagon to town. After the service they put the casket on the wagon and I drove the team down main street in Camrose. When I crossed the lake my cousin took over to the cemetery and then his brother took him to the grave site. Lots of people had brought horses and buggies or wagons, was really cool. All the pallbearers were in jeans, western shirts, cowboy boots and hats. Uncle Charlie had said no damned person in a suit is carrying me around. All My aunts and uncles my parents included were in horse drawn buggies. It was sad but done so well

Wow, that sounds pretty impressive, Julie. Sounds like a right proper send-off. I'm betting he would have been happy.

Yeah, it was mentioned here somewhere, John. Pretty sad news. She was a good performer and apparently a pretty good person.

Randy "Macho man" Savage died yesterday in Tampa, FL, they say it was a heart attack while driving. His wife was in the car with him, reported she's ok.

Rest in Peace Peter Falk 1927-2011 :icon_sad:

Yes, "Lt. Columbo" was the character Mr. Falk was best noted for. He was a great actor.

I like to remember him with Alan Arkin in the movie, The In-Laws... that was such a great film.

In my opinion, it is much better than the remake they made with Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks.

"Serpentine Shell, serpentine!!"

Sady, he will be missed.

Amy Winehouse was found dead early this morning...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar ... -dead.html

Thus a tragic ending of her life. What did Neil Young say, in "The Needle and the Damage Done"?

Predictable yes, Amy has now joined the unofficial Tragic 27 Club of legendary musicians who have died at that age :fail:

Club members include:- Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain (remarkably all of them were addicted to drugs and/or alcohol) :blablabla:

I wasn't into her style of music or entertainment, but no one should have to die so young. Some, tho, like John points out, are determined to bring their lives to an early end. It just reminds me how very lucky I am to still be here. May she rest in peace.

Not sure how to word this but I'll explain it the way I told Vicky by email a couple weeks ago.

The weekend of the 8-10th this month here was Thanksgiving and I went home to be with my family. Sunday night mom and I were talking about stuff and then out of no where she says "I read where 65% of all people that were in jail reoffend, so I won't be shocked when you do!" I just looked at her and left the house before I said something I would regret.Gunther was at a friends place so I just went for a walk with the dogs. About 10 minutes later I could hear someone else I knew it was my Dad and of course he tries to scare me, so I yell then laughed. We talked and laughed for almost 1 hour, then he said to me. "Julie your everything to me, free spirited, life of the party and don't fuck with me attitude, everything mom can't handle." I looked at him and said "I'm sorry," he said don't ever be sorry for who you are Julie." He then said how cold it was and we should go to town and have a plate of nachos with extra cheese, a beer for him and a near beer for me. We played pool and laughed till closing and I drove home. I had such a good night and I told him when we got home, "Daddy I love you" then hugged him.

Thanksgiving we had such a good meal and I ate like a pig. mom and I never said much to each other. Later Gunther and I were getting ready to leave for our drive home and he says to my Dad are you all right? Dad says "yeah I'm fine just a bit faint I should sit down". Gunther says "Julie bring the truck to the door now, and grabs my Dad. I brought the truck to the door and he helps my Dad in and Mom gets in. He was on the phone to the hospital ER and said "drive faster!" I was doing close to 100 mph and raced in the ambulance entrance, they met us and took Dad in. We went to a private waiting room, till he was stable enough to transfer him to Edmonton. My Dad had a massive stroke and heart attack and was put in the ICU unit, next morning my Dad passed away. The funeral was on the Friday, and I did speak at it and said goodbye to my Dad. A couple nights later, I went for a long walk then got in Dads truck. Went to town and ordered nachos with extra cheese, a beer and a near beer. The beer sat in the table. Not sure why I did that, but it felt so right to do.

I miss my Dad so much, he never gave up on me and always knew I could do so much more. John James 1939-2011, I love you Daddy :crying:
