Hey I put this topic in one of Sunny's forums and just want to say after getting some good advice from the master poster Walt that I should have put it here. Forgive me everybody I am still learning. Sunny's forums should be for her and now I know that the hood is where we talk about everything else. So lets get it started who is your favorite team College or Pro. Who is gonna be National Champs(I bet its someone from the SEC) who is gonna win the Super Bowl lets here some predictions. And Walt your right Brett Farve needs to let it go and be done with it.

I can't speak for college, having never gone. I guess I root for Texas because I'm from Texas. Pro Team is, of course, Dallas. Roger Staubach. I kind of like Indy, mainly because the Baltimore Colts were my team as a teen. (Indianapolis Colts were the Baltimore Colts before the team was sold and transferred to Indy.) Johnny Unitas was the KING!
I can resist everything except temptation.
I do like the Edmonton Eskimos (CFL), they've had at least one player I'm sure you've heard of. Warren Moon played his first 6 years of pro ball here, wining 5 Grey Cups in a row. I was able to meet him when they put his name and number on the wall of fame @ Commonwealth Stadium. He was just here for a book signing, he speaks a lot of here in it. I heard the interview, one thing he said was he was only judged for his play here and nothing else.
This year will mark the 100th year for the Grey Cup, it will be played in Calgary and I have a ticket if all goes right party! My team kind of sucks this year 2-3 so far. Yes I've played football centre for me is the best position

Exactly Walter ... Johnny Unitas was the best quarterback in the NFL. Better than Starr, better than Van Brocklin, better than Tarkenton, better than Gabriel, better than Wade, better than Brodie, better than Ryan, better than Meredith, better than Morton. (As Staubach, although he graduated in 1963 from the Naval Academy, had to serve his six years as a naval officer in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. The Cowboys drafted him in 1969.)WalterB wrote:I can't speak for college, having never gone. I guess I root for Texas because I'm from Texas. Pro Team is, of course, Dallas. Roger Staubach. Then the battles in the trenches that he had with Joe Namath and the New York Jets. In Super Bowl III (the Jets won that one 16-7, where Earl Morrall missed a wide open Jimmy Orr on an apparent go-ahead TD, and Unitas was bringing them back, but time just ran out on "Old Reliable" .... the new great QB Joe Namath had the ring and the championship, since he had "guaranteed it") and then from 1970-1972 (when the Colts and Jets were in the same division and in the same conference.) I remember a regular season game where Namath threw for 5 touchdowns, Unitas threw for 6 touchdowns. Final score was like Colts 48, Jets 43. The Jets were leading with about 3 and a half minutes to go... Unitas brought them back for the winning touchdown. Like he did the rest of the time in his Hall of Fame career.
Although most of his NFL passing records have long been surpassed, Johnny Unitas has a record that no NFL quarterback can ever break, something like 49 consecutive games in which he threw at least one touchdown pass. It's the equivalent of Joe DiMaggio and his 56 consecutive game hitting streak.
I was a big Baltimore Colts fan growing up. Along with Johnny Unitas, Tom Matte, John Mackey, Earl Morrall, Bill Curry, Jimmy O'Brien, Bubba Smith, Ted Hendricks, Rick Volk...
Mike Curtis, their middle linebacker, was my favorite player. Wheaties, the cereal, was doing a promotion. If you ate 10 boxes of Wheaties, and if you saved the box tops, then with $2.00 more you could buy a NFL Team Poster. (A drawing of a famous player on your favorite team. Well, I got this massive poster of #32 my hero Mike Curtis which I put on my door).
A memorable moment. Dolphins playing the Colts, in November 1971 in Memorial Stadiium in Baltimore. Colts on defense. Both teams are in their huddles. A fan ran onto the field, and tried to steal the ball. He grabbed the ball, and took a few steps. Curtis ran after him and drilled him into the ground...

I also liked Bert Jones, the LSU quarterback who went to play for the Colts ...
Today, I root for Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.

John, I saw a program recently on ESPN called The Greatest Game Ever Played. (I guess it first aired in Dec, 2008.) It was the Colts/Giants NFL (NFC/AFC) Playoff game back in 1958, before they developed the Super Bowl. I still remember watching this game. I was delirious at the final play, when Johnny U drove them down the field and made the final handoff to Don Ameche for the win. It was one of those fantastic games that make football what it is - a fantastic, nail-biting sport. (come on, synchronised swimming is not a sport ) I just ordered the DVD from Amazon.

That tight end looks inviting; hmmm, maybe I'll take an interest in American Football if all the players looked like her!

This famous picture shows Johnny Unitas throwing a long pass to Raymond Berry. Andy Robustelli is trying to jump up and knock the ball down, The Colt center, Buzz Nutter # 60 is blocking. Dick Modzelewski # 77 trails on the play. Alan Ameche is # 35 and he is blocking too. Roosevelt Grier is the downed Giants lineman at Unitas' feet. Art Spinney # 63 is the downed Colt blocker. George Preas #50, the Colts right tackle is the upright lineman and is also blocking for Unitas. The play is unique in that it was third down and 19 yards, as the Giants had stopped Lenny Moore for a loss and had sacked Unitas on the previous two plays leading to this crucial play in the 1958 NFL Championship game.

John, I can't believe I said DON Ameche. What a MAROON!!! Of course it was Alan. My favorites were, of course, Raymond Berry and Lenny Moore. But the whole team was just a great team. Televised Pro ball was new and for a 15 yr-old-kid it was just fantastic to see all these guys you could only read about previously. And tickets to a game were about $5. Can't even park for that now.

I'm an Arsenal fan kinda, a friend likes em so I back them. I've only watched part of one game now I know why the fans drink so much. Nothing personal but that was harder for me to watch then the NFL. Did I open a can of worms sorry guys

vectis or Rokkerr or someone, exactly what is The Ashes? Is that a name of the series? Like our World Series (played by American teams,) or our Super Bowl, or NBA playoffs, or Stanley Cup (hockey?) And exactly what is the game? Cricket?
From what you say, it is something that starts and just keeps going, like soccer or basketball or hockey. Of course, they have breaks, such as fouls, and 'periods', etc, but when they start playing, they keep going until there's a foul or something. (I'm sure you know all this, I'm just trying to make my curiosity clear.) Football, as you know, is a series of short plays, interrupted by a huddle before each play. It's just that it's a well planned strategy, replanned after each play, while hockey and the others are just do it until someone gets slugged. (Wouldn't Julie make a great hockey player? Man, she'd just kick ASS and take names!)
Your explanations to a poor old simpleton would be greatly appreciated. I know I can just go google it, but I'll get better info from actual fans.
